High school class of 2016

So like I printed out an AP World History study that was homework over break, only to realize that it was not up to date and that my teacher decided to update on Saturday. So much for not procrastinating…

@catchinginfinity and Cornball.

I get what you mean. I just get so overwhelmed with trying to balance both and I can’t get over my laziness and not wanting to try very hard. I feel like I have to choose one or the other

WHAP is not fun at all! That course was a pain!

Happy New Year’s, guys!

happy new years to you too.

my ap wh teacher grades on some sort of a curve where only 4 students out of 100+ who take the class end up with an A. the majority end up with anywhere from a C- to a B. if i don’t get an A or A- in the class, then i’m done for…

^^^^^^
That’s the exact same for my AP Human Geo class. Except she doesn’t curve. I really want an A to but our Culture test was worth 129 points and she hasn’t put it in.

We got a lot of WHAP over the break. I started it yesterday…

WHAP was painful at times (I pulled two or three all nighters trying to finish break/vacation work that I had saved for the last minute) but all in all I was actually pretty happy that I took the course - it was far more interesting than APUSH imo and the workload was easier. However, I’m in AP US Gov and Pol and it is by far the easiest and the most interesting - I just get really amped reading about different types of ballots and the electoral college. lol. (Dead serious, too. I can’t wait to major in Political Science.)

I have school tomorrow… but I’m excited for practice on Friday

I start on the seventh, I for AP Euro I just have to take notes for 3 pages, for AP Physics we have to cover a whole chapter and I barely started today uggh.

School starts tomorrow for me, too. Hoping for a snow day or an early dismissal…every other school in my county/region is off until the 6th.

@Pi - Yeah, I get that feeling sometimes too.

@preamble - Isn’t APUSH a lot more “necessary” knowledge, though? Even though everyone complains about the workload, a lot of people say that in the end, the things you learn in APUSH are a lot more applicable and make you a better citizen (in the sense that you’re knowledgeable about all the presidents and more aware of what’s actually going on in our country).

Should I take APUSH. At our school it’s like a guaranteed B unless you get lucky with 1 teacher.

@catchinginfinity
I wouldn’t take APUSH to be a better citizen. Of course it’s good to learn about your country’s history and all, but it’s not actually applicable when it comes to fulfilling your duties. What I learned last year really only slightly helps me make an informed decision when voting or supporting an issue.

If you want knowledge that actually helps you be more politically aware, take AP Gov. I’m taking it now, and not only is it more interesting than APUSH, it feels so much more rewarding. We’re learning about what politicians pay attention to during campaigns, how lobbyists influence legislators, the different biases in the media, etc. In my opinion, all of this is a lot more useful to the average citizen when it’s time for them to decide whether to support a certain issue or not.

Yeah, I don’t think many people take the class to be a better citizen anyway. :stuck_out_tongue: But is the content a lot more useful than WHAP? There was a previous thread on HSL about APUSH and everyone seemed to agree that APUSH was much better and useful in the end, despite the heavy amount of reading (at least the class is notorious for that in my school).

AP Gov sounds so interesting…unfortunately, my school is so tiny WHAP and APUSH are the only history APs that are offered to us. ):

On an unrelated note, has anyone taken AP Human Geo or AP Comparative Gov’t before?

I start school on the 6th. My WHAP teacher seems to give me 80% Every time I think I’ve failed a project/assignment.

@catchinginfinity
My friend takes AP Human Geography. He told me all they do is watch National Geographic Videos and they’re mostly graded on FRQ’s and Tests.

So I decided yesterday that I’m going to self study AP Chemistry in addition to AP Biology and AP Calculus BC.

Four months to finish AP Chem, AP Bio, and AP Calc BC. This is going to be fun.

^WHY!?!? If your school offers them, then take them in the class. The time you spend self-studying would be much better spent building up ECs and doing research. Don’t make your life any more difficult than it already is. Do yourself a favor and don’t do all three. (Believe me, sophomore year I decided I would self-study 8 AP’s. In the end, I only studied two, both in the humanities, and that was difficult enough.)

anyone struggling in ap world? and also, how many AP’s are you all taking?

My current “school” offers none of those lol. Well, it offers bio, but the teacher is a redneck, so…

My main EC (research) I’ll be doing from around 2-5PM each day; I’ll be studying from 5-9 or 12 PM each day for my APs. (Schoolwork is minimal, which is why I want to get these three hard APs out of the way before I transfer to a harder school).

I don’t find BC that difficult; it’s AP Chem that’s going to be a problem.

Also, you’re a junior?!

2, AP Euro and AP Physics B, AP Euro is pretty easy but a lot of work, Physics B is kinda difficult but not so much work. I like physics though, it’s a really fun class.
