High school class of 2016

@typeakid‌ ‌I’m sorry I can’t really offer much advice for AP Music Theory; my piano teacher taught me all and beyond what was covered in that class during my elementary school years, so I came in the class knowing everything.

AP Physics 1
AP Physics 2
AP US History
AP English Language
AP Psychology
Pre-Calculus (H)
French III (H)
Marching Band (H)

My junior schedule:
Honors English 11
Honors US history II
AP chemistry
AP statistics
AP computer science A
AP physics C mechanics
Dual enrollment: multivariable calculus 1st semester then differential equations

Will it look bad to colleges if my only physics class is AP physics C mechanics? I skipped honors physics at my school, so I won’t have any other physics besides mechanics. If it helps, I’ll be self studying E&M and taking the exam.

@alzhao - Stat is pretty easy, self-studying it should be okay.

AP Physics I
AP US History
AP Language
AP Chemistry
Pre-Calculus (H)
Spanish 4 (H)
Symphonic Band

Then taking a CS class at a community college and self-studying for AP CS.

Welp, time to follow this trend.

Junior Schedule:

English 11
AP Calc AB
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C: Mech*
AP Physics C:E/M*
AP Environmental Science
Programming/Computer Concepts (Prereq to AP Comp Sci)
Microsoft Certification (Financial literacy requirement class, our school is weird).

I hope I can survive these two. I love math and physics, and I already know some calc.

AP Lang and Composition
AP Calc AB (Self Studying BC)
AP Chem
AP Chem Lab
AP Physics 1 (only physics class available at school, going to dual enroll senior year)
AP Gov
Honors Religion III
Art I (WOOT WOOT, yay for art reqs!)

@Smrtical‌ @typeakid‌ I’ve been playing piano for 11 years and violin for 8 years and I’m also perfect pitch (lol parents both graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music). But looking at the Barron’s music theory book, it actually seems pretty difficult with all the modes and Roman numerals and whatnot. Any tips for this test?

AP Eng Lang
AP US History
AP Chinese
AP Calc AB
AP Psych (1 sem)/AP Comp Gov (1 sem)
AP Art HIstory
Honors Physics

@alzhao‌ My teacher dislikes perfect pitch people, and unfortunately he had to deal with me. That’s awesome you have perfect pitch too! When did you first find out? My piano teacher at one point played a few notes for me in the 1st grade and asked if I could identify them and I could. :)

Having perfect pitch is a very, VERY nice advantage when taking AP Music Theory. You have a huge chunk of the AP exam that you can already do because of it.

A little secret: you won’t encounter but one or two mode questions on the AP exam. Trust me, we went over seven past exams before the 2014 one.

However, the Roman numerals (called functions) are REALLY important to know. I’m a bad explainer, but I hope yoy find a great person who will explain functions and cadences and part-writing; with those three THERE IS A CLICHE FORMULA. Nothing will be extraordinary. If you’re in the key of D Major, for example, the final cadence will most likely be from V (dominant; V means five, the fifth scale degree of D Major is A) to I (tonic; I means one, which is D Major). Always try to have a common and slightly corny way of completing compositions. All I can say.

I guess everyone else is doing it…
Junior Year Classes (oh boy this will be fun…)

 1. Honors Chemistry (1 yr)
 2. Honors Pre-Calculus (1 yr)
 3. Honors Sociology (1/2 yr)
 4. Honors Human Geography (with the AP exam) (1/2 yr)
 5. Honors Economics (1/2 yr)
 6. AP English Language and Composition (1 yr)
 7. AP US Government (1/2 yr)
 8. CP Debate (1/2 yr)
 9. CP Psychology (1/2 yr)
 10. Ocean Science (1/2 yr)
 11. Drawing (1/2 yr)

Wow everyone here is in like 5 APs… my school only allows 2 junior year because of all the pre-requisite rules. It sucks.

@Smrtical‌ Haha yes, looking over the aural section, I’m pretty sure I can get a full score because of my perfect pitch. I learned that I had perfect pitch in 3rd grade when my orchestra teacher wanted all of us to tune our instruments and I didn’t have to tune with the piano.

Thanks for the tip on the modes, I was kind of getting worried over those. Haha, hopefully eventually I will find someone who can explain the functions to me. Thanks for the help!

Welp, that was my daily dose of inadequacy. I’m just going to go cry now brb

AP Music Theory was great. It was a class of five and two of us had perfect pitch and annoyed the crap out of the teacher.

I like the new CC updates. :)

Yeah same. Reply buttons finally <3

holla holla get a dolla

Hey guys! 16er here, are any of you taking IB classes in junior and senior year?

@Sanya98‌ I am. I’m doing the diploma.

@Sanya98‌ @Animefan1998‌ I’m doing DP as well!

@Indianfire101‌

AP Env Sci is notoriously easy, from what I’ve seen on CC. Chem is pretty difficult apparently.
