High school class of 2016

When do you plan to actually apply to college and start college?

@rhapsody17‌

I’m not currently planning on doing ED anywhere as finances are a bit questionable at the moment, but I’m going to file EA at a minimum of one of my schools, probably more, and RD everywhere else.

@rhapsody17‌

Same as the class of 2017. Fall 2016 will be when I apply, and I’ll start college Fall 2017 (instead of applying Fall 2015 and starting Fall 2016).

–

I’ve been listening to this for the past two hours: <a href=“Epic sax guy 10 hours - YouTube”>Epic sax guy 10 hours - YouTube;

It’s so great

If you graduate early in Fall 2015 and enter college in Fall 2017, it would be a year and half of gap. What do plan to do with that much time in high school? Wouldn’t it be better to pursue challenges in college with that much time?

Sorry for changing the topic, but how are you all staying motivated? I feel like I burned myself out in 9th and 10th grade, and now I can’t bring myself to study anymore :frowning: I keep thinking that I’m “inspired” and convince myself that I’ll work harder tomorrow, but it never happens. Ugh.

@Slytherclaw21 My new picture :D

@glasshours The only classes that require studying and lots of homework this year are science/math ones that I chose, and I just work through them. I still procrastinate a lot, but it’s not busy work, so I’m fine with it. Look forward to Senior year, when you can slack a tiny bit.

@glasshours‌ It’s so hard to stay motivated. Ironically, I’m taking more naps than I was last year, even though I have harder classes.

You guys are lucky having a 10 point scale. I have made 2 Bs, and they both would’ve been As if we had the 10 point scale.

@gbrl10‌ - Yeah, I take a nap from 3-4 (sometimes 5) most days after school now. /: I was actually super motivated last year and the beginning of this year, but now I just don’t care.

High schooler committed suicide pretty close to where I live.

@Woandering Had two people in my school commit suicide in the past year or so. Pretty sad.

Anyone else taking this SAT this Saturday?

Took a practice test from the BB and scored a 1940 (without much prep either).
Surprisingly I found it easier than the PSAT…

@Chrysanthemum14‌ It’s supposed to be easier

I’m a 16er

As for classes I’m taking this year
Algebra 2
Geometry
Chemistry
US History
Photography/Graphic Design
Life in Jesus Christ / Sacraments
British Literature

A couple of websites had my school in the top 10 for public schools. I thought that was pretty cool.

Anyone have advice on how to maintain any scrap of self-worth and optimism after potentially bombing a test? I just took a math midterm and I’m worried it did not go well. I got a perfect on the last one but for some reason the prof did more true/false than open-ended proofs this time, and I tend to second-guess/overthink a lot in that format. Blah, I feel like a huge failure. I know that seems histrionic but man it’s really bringing me down :(

89.50-100 (or greater) is a 4.0 at my school.

Colleges recalculating your GPA is irksome. Percentages don’t appear on our transcripts, just letter grades (includes +'s or -'s)

Hey y’all. Haven’t been on here in awhile!

Anyone else struggling to motivate themselves to study for the SAT? I need to get my CR/M score up to 1400 to qualify for some automatic full scholarships but…ugh, it’s hard to get motivated to study…Especially math.

I know someone was talking about gap years and…go gap year-ers! I’m definitely taking some sort of gap year, probably to work in Turkey or Argentina. What’s the rush? College will always be there, and a ton of colleges support and even encourage gap years.

Unless you’re doing paid work or doing something that will significantly help you when searching for jobs or colleges, I don’t see the point of a gap year. The only rush about college is to get a source of income faster, or have the knowledge or qualifications to do something you enjoy.

If your parents are going to support you for the gap year, you could do something you just enjoy, but why burden them longer?

Suicide in high school is way too common now, and I think that says a lot about the system.
