Today I got an email saying to check our new class rank and updated gpa on our schools website. I was extremely disappointed to find out that my class rank went down to 111/494 even though my gpa went up. My unweighted gpa is 3.84 and my weighted is 4.82. My grade is ridiculously smart. Our school posted on our school website that 53 kids in my grade got above a 2300 on the SAT and 98 got above a 2200. My school is ranked 1st in the county and 9th in the state. How much do you think my poor class rank will affect college decisions? Do you think the college will take into account that my school is an excellent public school?

I am a high school senior. I made a 16 on my act I need help to score at least a 20-24 in September.
@md1998 Not sure what schools you’re applying to, but statistically your UW GPA is on the low end for the accepted students at the most selective colleges. This isn’t to say that you don’t have a good GPA- for the great majority of schools, you’re perfectly fine. Yes, they’ll definitely take the rigor of your school and courseload into account.

Excuse the “lab aide” thing. I’m assisting my AP Chem teacher, and I can’t take two subjects at the same time at my school (Gov and Macro are semesters).
@michelle426 are you better at concepts or memorization? ap physics is conceptual and AP Bio is more memorization
@2016senior I’m a fast learner, but not always a good memorizer. I sometimes have trouble grasping concepts in the beginning, but it gets better over time.
@Princetonian2020: Yeah, I’ve heard that their department is amazing! One of my friends from astronomy camp is going there, but she’s going for astronomy and physics instead of aerospace engineering.

@Mochis1 Yeah. Top 2%. Their campus really is amazing. I visited last week as part of Passport to Aggieland and they make you feel like family. All of their traditions are quirky, and I find it hilarious how a lot of them seem to have such drastic outcomes.
I kind of fell in love with the atmosphere and how they make sure every student is safe (outside they have designated locations where if you don’t feel safe at any moment, you can press a button and get an escort police officer or corps cadet).
