12 days. Want to go back, but know I’ll regret saying that once I get bombarded with homework and essays and appointments and extracurriculars.
staying up until 2 doing AP lit homework is great…
u guys is having 3 teacher recs a bad idea? conflicted over whether to ask another teacher
@debate4ever If you think that the third teacher rec can say anything different about you or show another aspect of your personality that the other two recs won’t be able to, then by all means, go for it. If it’s just going to be a rehash of what your teachers already said about you, then it’ll do more harm than good. Admissions officers don’t like reading through extra papers. I remember I was at an information session once and an admissions officer brought up the fact that someone sent in 11 rec letters. It annoyed them because all the letters said basically the same thing, and they rejected the student. However, be sure to check with the colleges you’re applying to about their requirements for rec letters. Some are pretty strict about having two while others are more lax.
Thanks @allista
@michelle426 That was me last night as well.
@bjkmom The counselors lost everyone’s schedules and only got a chance to redo 1500/4500. Those who do have a schedule have to deal with their mistakes in scheduling until next week.
AP Lit is way too much homework, but it’ll be fine so long as I get used to it. The AP Psych teacher is being much more strict with us than any of his former AP classes because his AP pass rate last year was terrible. My AP Bio teacher called me ‘an over-committed student’ and told me I’d never do well in her class, and on top of that she dissed both me and my friend that wish to become physics majors. I’m in debate 1 and I didn’t sign up for it and the teacher wants some really expensive supplies by tomorrow when I’ll likely be out of her class at the beginning of next week and in electronics instead. Our college advisor is not in his office at the beginning of the day and the administrators won’t let us talk to him at all during lunch (they expect everyone in the cafeteria–no access to the library or offices this year) or after school (we get kicked out of the building as soon as the bell rings unless we have a pass from an official student organization). Our school is out of paper and won’t get any until next week so I can’t get my transcript yet when I plan to apply to a program. There are lots of other problems that I just would spend too much time explaining.
@bjkmom, I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me here’s what’s wrong: I’m regularly in class for 10 hours a day, and once I get out of school, I have to study and attend/plan EC activities. I’m not even an athlete, and my schedule sometimes is full from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. And in between everything, I’m trying to return emails and phone calls.
Also, my school counselors are in charge of ~400 students each. A number of them frankly don’t know how to do their jobs. All in all, every year they manage to mess up (I estimate) 30% of students’ schedules, so I’m currently enrolled in a class I already took as well as a class I didn’t sign up for. While I wait for my schedule to be straightened out, which is probably going to take at least 2 weeks, I’m getting behind in the two AP classes I will be eventually joining.
Oh, and I’m applying to college.
Don’t get me wrong, I love learning, I have some lovely teachers, and I did commit to my schedule myself. I’m just so tired, and it’s only the fourth day. 97% of American high schoolers probably don’t have these issues, but it feels almost inhumane sometimes, and I suspect for most of us who have aimed high college-wise.
(At this point, I’m not even doing this because I’m Ivy-obsessed or whatever. My family can’t afford my college tuition, so I need to get a full merit scholarship or admittance into one of the 100% need met schools. And this is just what it takes to have a shot.)
*Sorry about the length. Needed to rant, I guess.
@LikeThis It’s all good. Sometimes it’s really good to just let things out.
AP Lit wasn’t that horrible- I got a 90 as a final grade and a 3 on the AP. I’ll see about AP Lang
@bjkmom I just really don’t like the school I go to.
AP Lang wasn’t too bad. I never had a real teacher and got a 4.
All we did in Eng language was write essays over articles in a college textbook. We never learned the terminology, but I already knew it from AP Spanish Literature. I made a 96 in the class.
Does anyone else feel more motivated than ever…? I was pretty lazy all of junior year, not sure why senioritis isn’t hitting me yet.
I am more behind on everything than I have been for the past 3.5 years. God and adcoms have mercy on my soul.
I used up all of my motivation junior year. I have none this year, so I’m forcing myself to do better than last year with the thought of being able to look forward to breaks.
I keep thinking about the potential (small) chance I have at getting into my dream schools so that keeps me motivated I guess
Took a test to get into Calc AB. I really hope I pass because I REALLY need to take this class. I’m so scared.
My sister has my former AP Physics 1 teacher and current AP Physics 2 teacher for Pre-AP Physics. He started off her school year by telling her I’d easily solve the physics problem he gave the class twice as fast as she did and told her I’m his favorite student. He constantly compares us two and I don’t think she’ll have much patience with it. I think he’s just messing with her, though.
@XoXdreamerXoX thats going to be my former APUSH teacher with my little bro as he is his global teacher this upcoming year. I was the best student in APUSH and my brother got a 77 in the first half of global (2 year course)
