High school class of 2016

My AP English Lit teacher assigns more homework than all of my other classes combined. How does he manage to assign more homework than 6 AP classes combined?

Does anyone know if we’re allowed to submit our application before our (non-writing) supplement?

@glasshours what do you mean by non-writing supplement?

My essay advice is to avoid cliché themes and speak directly of how an experience relates to you.

PS, I’m back felines after two years or so.

@Meander Welcome back!

@kuriosmind - Art, music, research supplements; in other words, will the SlideRoom tab disappear after submitting CommonApp for a school?

@glasshours Not sure about other schools, but I know that’s the case for Yale because I was randomly looking at their website yesterday. I’d assume it’s the same for other schools.

My AP English Lit teacher made us do college essays for a grade. We were allowed to do specific essays from our colleges or common app or ApplyTexas essays (I chose common app–applying to more out of state than in). The problem is that he is only allowing us to do one page MLA format. 400 words.

Does anyone here who uses Naviance know if your teacher can still put their recommendation on there even if the common app isn’t linked to it yet and there are no colleges listed?

@littlet4lks - You have to request specific teachers through Naviance first and link it to the Common App yourself (at least, this is what happens in my school).

Guidance then assigns a counselor to your Naviance account. Teachers can’t submit recs until guidance connects counselors. Here, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a list in Naviance right now (we just need to add the schools once we submit our applications).

@glasshours Alright thanks! I was worried because I requested him and it says “in progress” so I guess it will come up when I get assigned a counselor.

Sucks when I have to ask for a counselor rec from a counselor who doesn’t know who I am in the sea of 900 seniors.

Something is up with my class deciles… Top 6% have UW 4.0 (pretty standard, although may fluctuate), the next 14% have >3.9, the top 30% have >3.8, and the top 40% have >3.7… My class is too competitive, these deciles have been altered dramatically from the last 4 years…

@basedchem

…the top .5% of my class have a 4.0

I have a 3.85 and am in the top 2%.

Well…

I will add that the top 3% of my class are competitive. Everyone else, not so much.

@XoXdreamerXoX i live in NorCal, public education is no cakewalk :frowning: Lots of people immediately say GRADE INFLATION, but no. We’re all that smart. Imagine College Confidential. But in real life. With a 3.85, you wouldn’t even be in top 25%… But imagine how bad I feel… with a meager 3.75…

I have 3.909 and Im in the top 1%…but my school ranks based on weighted Gpa and I’ve taken the most APs in my school* LOL

*for now because there’s this crazy junior who’s taking waaaaaay to many…but i will have taken the most at my school when i graduate :slight_smile:

Yeah, my weighted GPA is crazy because of AP classes. We get ranked based on weighted GPA as well. I will have taken the second most AP classes in my graduating class. I’ll have taken 14 and the sal is the only one surpassing me with 15.

@basedchem - Not sure which school you go to, but I have a bunch of friends in NorCal and their (public) schools are all INSANE. One has 40 vals/year because they all have 4.0s. So yeah, definitely sympathize with you.

lol we only offer 15 APs and 8 honors (4 languages) and you can’t even take all of them. Freshman and sophomores have restrictions on weighted classes. I had to take a placement test to even take my only honors class freshman year.

@glasshours sounds like my district LOLLLL
