@XoXdreamerXoX Yeah if you have detention you can’t go
Mine is this week, dance is the 10th. I’m on student council so we run the whole thing.
@readingclaygirl Same on the StuCo thing.
Mines on the 24th but I’m skipping to spend the day going around Boston with my brothers.
HoCo is not a big deal at all at my school and last year it got cancelled b/c they couldn’t sell 100 tickets before the event… lel
I wish i was in my school Student council. Wasn’t going to run for a position, and there was a random selection for like 40 spots out of 200 applications.
hoco is a pretty big deal at mine as in they have to cap ticket sales at 800 every year.
I’m a senior class officer. A terrible one, but I am. They never tell me of meetings and just tell me I missed them after they already happened.
Aww haha im a NHS officer but its not the same.
So, my EC (MIT) wants me to keep in contact with him, but I don’t even know what to talk about, haha. What am I supposed to do? Ask questions about my application? He graduated MIT decades ago–don’t think that’d work out well. Gah. Don’t want to leave him hanging either.
Hmm, I’d ask him some question you already know to make sure he’s helpful and express interest.
My homecoming was this weekend. My boyfriend doesn’t go to my school, & I don’t like going to dances alone, so I didn’t go.
My schools also mostly URMs, about 70% Hispanic. I’m one of few applying to college. I may receive fee waivers, since my mom is on unemployment. (She had 2 jobs, but a car drove through 1 restaurant). Senior pictures are $25, prom is $90 each, plus a dress, grad fee $100, application total will be about $80+.
People actually go to homecoming? Not even sure if I want to go to prom.
What’s a graduation fee? Or is that the cap and gown?
@shadyconcepts That has happened for our second dance two years in a row now. Glad to know I’m not at the only school where that happens.
Does anyone know what time National Merit apps are due on October 7th?
@XoXdreamerXoX In my school, the grade fee covers: Yearbook, cap & gown, & I think the post-grad party.
Do you all have homecoming dances? We only have a homecoming game.
@glasshours I just submitted my Merit app just now, actually! My school set the deadline to October 5 just so they make sure everyone gets it in before October 7. I would recommend submitting it by tomorrow, just so you’ll be safe and you don’t miss the Oct 7 deadline.
@shadyconcepts - I submitted it waaay back in September, but guidance STILL hasn’t submitted the rec/sent my app yet. Going to bother them about it tomorrow, but slightly frustrated that they still haven’t done their part yet.
Did you just recycle your Common App essay for the NM essay?
@glasshours That’s weird that they haven’t sent it in, but I’m assuming they will get it in on time by October 7. I talked to my guidance counselor today and she said it’s a whole complicated process but I’m sure they’ll get things done by the deadline, and same goes for your guidance office as well. You should definitely bother them about it tomorrow just in case!
I wish I could’ve recycled my Common App essay but it didn’t really fit the prompt (it wasn’t really a specific event or obstacle) so I just wrote out another essay yesterday that’s kind of similar and submitted it tonight
