@SallyStephens Don’t have a midterm for ap chem, but I do have a rather large test for it tomorrow.

I don’t run on a blocking schedule. Mid-terms are January-March.
Honestly, I’m screwed no matter what. Half of the smartest people take Honors Band, thus raising their GPA because everyone gets an A+.

@Teyrkis It’s not technically a midterm-- he said it’s kinda like that but its mostly big.

IS YOURS ON GAS LAWS

That’s what mine is on

All you people with AP courses.

We get our Precalc midterm grades back tomorrow, and I’m really hoping I got 100. I think I might have, but I’m afraid I might have answered one of the questions in the wrong way (like, expand and then simplify? what?), so I could have gotten a B+ (there’s no partial credit).

If I got 100, though, I’ll get an A in the class without the curve (though with the curve, I have an A at the moment).

I ended the quarter with a B+ in H. Chem, but next quarter my grade should be higher (since I’m now used to all the weird formatting stuff my teacher requires). I really want an A for the semester…

@Greninja I don’t get to celebrate either, just wear my costume to school (then frantically change, perform, and change back into my costume). I’m probably not going to wear it to the Homecoming game, because… well… that would be awkward.

@SallyStephens Nope, we’re doing Electrochemistry currently. @Topaz1116 currently in pre-calc also haha. I find it really easy though so I’m self studying AP Calc AB/ BC. I think my grade for precalc is like a 94-ish due to the teacher absolutely sucks. Oh well.

@SallyStephens I guess it would depend on the school. At my school all four years are counted equally in the class rank.

And we also had a midterm in AP Chemistry. I got a low grade, but most people did so the teacher curved it and it only moved my AP Chem grade down two percent. And we just learned gas laws so it’s on our midterm.

@Teyrkis For us, there’s no partial credit; even though I’m considered one of the smartest people in the class (most of the class is juniors, with a few other sophomores; I have the fifth-highest pre-midterm grade in the class of 33 with only an 86), I make a lot of really dumb mistakes. Basically, story of my life. We aren’t allowed to self-study courses for credit at my school (or even take outside courses for credit, whether it’s at a CC or a summer program like ATDP), so I have to stick with the program and take BC next year so I can take Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra senior year. My school’s just really annoying like that; the only AP you’re allowed to take sophomore year is AP Stats if you’re taking Precalc (which is approximately 15% of the class; the rest is in Algebra II/Trig with a few stragglers in Geometry). I elected to fulfill my Arts requirement, though, so I can take the courses I want to take junior and senior year.

Hey everyone, I need your advice on an issue.

So I have social anxiety and selective mutism which makes it hard for me to talk to people, but I am getting help with a therapist.

These issues caused me to get a zero on a socratic seminar in AP English Language. It moved my grade down from a 96% to a 79%. This is my first B in high school and I’d really like to get an A back. (A socratic seminar in my class is when all the desks in the class are arranged in a circle and you have to discuss a book or passage.)

Well I told the therapist about this and she said she could talk to the teacher or school counselor about me getting an exception from socratic seminar grading because of my problems.

Of course I would like to get my grade up but it may also be a bit unfair if I don’t get graded but everyone else does, since I’m sure it makes other people nervous to talk in front of everybody even though they may not have been diagnosed with a disorder like me.

So do you think I should get an exception? What would you think if someone in your class didn’t have to participate in the socratic seminars?

@dsi411 If you’re getting help but you don’t want to be treated differently, perhaps you can ask to be excepted from that specific Socratic Seminar? Yes, other people get nervous; but you have been diagnosed with a disorder. If it is hard for you to speak because of something beyond your immediate control, it is not your fault.

@topaz1116 that ap ‘limit’ is really dumb tbh. I’m only doing three courses of AP this year (AP Chem, Gov, Stats) but I’m planning to take 15 semesters of AP junior year then 16 semesters of AP senior year. I don’t get why you’re only allowed to do one AP class… makes no sense to me.

I think you should get an exception from the grading, but still should participate so the issue is private and among you and your teacher. I would personally think it’s fair personally. @Dsi411

@Teyrkis Probably because all the AP classes would fill up, leaving no spaces for juniors and seniors. Let’s just say I go to an extremely competitive school… But some of the other schools in my district offer AP Bio as a sophomore science course.

Also probably because they think people would push themselves too hard. Our school is notorious for being very, very, very hard (my friend told people in her symphony that she went there, and everybody thought she was a genius), and people tend to push themselves too hard. A lot. Like, this is a school where ~25 kids went to Ivies/Stanford last year (out of a class of 530), 40 went to Berkeley, and 20-ish went to UCLA (I think like 120-ish kids went to UCs overall).

I’m planning on taking AP Chem, AP Physics 1, and AP Calc BC next year, along with (regular; ain’t nobody got time for AP) US History, H. English 11 (my school doesn’t offer AP Lang), and Journalism (if I get in; otherwise I’ll take some easy course because I honestly don’t want to kill myself, because Colorguard eats up a lot of my time and I’ve never heard of someone taking a schedule like this–especially Chem and Physics together). Also technically Marching Band because I’m part of Colorguard, but that doesn’t really count.

Hey to everyone doing chemistry where are you guys at right now? I’m in honors chemistry and I have a really bad teacher like I’m sorry she’s just bad all she does is pet her weave all the time and when we were watching a video on what an ion was I told her i already knew what it was and she said “not everyone in the class knows what it is including myself.” I really hope she was kidding but probably not. Anyways right now we are on Democritous and I think we should be a lot further along than that.

@Calchong I’m in H. Chemistry, and we started bonds.

The other H. Chemistry teacher at my school uses AP Chem material, even if she doesn’t teach; my teacher uses Nonhonors Chem material and is really picky.

Honestly, I’d rather have the hard teacher. I already know everything my teacher is teaching us, and he’s super-vague on tests–like, electron affinity doesn’t “increase” or “decrease”: it becomes more or less negative.

I just figured out why my school’s guard got second at the band review we went to earlier this month–the school that beat us was really good because they came from a school with a middle school marching band and guard.

@Calchong In AP Chem and doing Electrochem.

WE are so far behind!!! im literally going to get a 400 on the SAT subject test

@Calchong Self-study your butt off. It worked for Bio–I had a horrible teacher last year, but I self-studied and got a 770 on Bio E.

@topaz1116 I have the Barrons SAT chem book is that one you would recommend? what did you use for bio?
