@Cornbread1999 Nobody knows yet. I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.
@pseudoprimal Man you just gave me a boost of confidence. Thanks!
@YoohooAddict I do pretty well with CR on the new PSAT (I totally thought that CR/W got way easier and M got crazy hard). You know how there’ll be a question and then one following that asking for evidence? I found it helpful to underline all the sentences mentioned as answer choices in before even reading the passage bc I thought it saved time + if you take a look at the question first then the lines numbers mentioned in the following question, it’s much easier to answer and saves time but that’s just my own opinion. The rest is pretty straightforward. Any tips for the math section?
I also think the CR and W on the new PSAT is really easy but that the math is hard. Not because the questions are hard, but because there isn’t enough time, especially in the no calculator section. So I guess a tip would be to work super fast on the no calculator portion.
I thought CR is the same difficulty as the CR on the old test, but with more variation in the difficulty of the actual questions (average difficulty would be the same), W is easier (i usually get 41/44 to 44/44) whereas I would get 28/35 to 33/35 on the old W large MC section. I’m more of a math person, so I don’t mind that the PSAT covers more difficult topics.
I dunno why, but I found the math sections simpler than the CR/W sections, and I’m more of a language arts-oriented person. The new writing section confused me, but that’s probably because I didn’t practice beforehand. Anyhow, I prefer the old SAT so I’ll likely take that instead anyway.
When are PSAT scores going to be released?
I found the no calculator section of the PSAT to be challenging since there wasn’t enough time to finish it…other than that, I found the CR/W to be much easier than the old test!
Anyone have a guess what the national merit scholarship cut off scores will be?
I wonder what they will be like now that it’s out of 1520.
The math was so hard!! I hopefully i score better in my other 2 sections. What do you all think the national merit cut off will be like?
@buffalo11 for national merit they have their own scoring scale out of 228
prepscholar said for most states between 195 and 215 but how accurate is that?
@a20171 Thanks for the info! Where did you find out they are using a scale out of 228?
that’s strange- the math no calc section was the easiest for me. CR was the hardest, but still easier than the old SAT.
@buffalo11 prepscholar is a blog and it says it on the college board website but it’s kinda hidden just look through all the scoring info!
I also found the math no calc section to be really hard. I ended up running out of time and guessing on my last 4.
I just thought that it was overall harder than the practice PSAT. And I don’t think I made National Merit Semifinalist status.
Yes it was, especially the critical reading section.
So I was curious if everyone could post comments about PSAT content here.
Ex. Who the hell would spend $45 on cookies and water?
@bhagn2017 0/10 would NOT recommend talking about the actual questions.
@bhagn2017 I thought the writing and language section was easy but I definitely could have used more time on math. Hopefully the curve is good and the cut off scores are low.
