High School Class of 2017

@athenanv13 Same I’m 7th but it’s literally 1 percentage point from me and the top. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time for both of us!!!

I’m 1/500  but I don’t think I’m gonna keep it forever

…aaaaaand my school does decile ranking and only lets us know who’s val/sal at the end of senior year. Ugh.

I don’t know my specific rank, but I now I’m among the Top 20. During freshman year I used to be tied for second or third place, but my ranking decreased in sophomore year because I took less AP classes than most students (so much for not having the prerequisite to take AP Chemistry because I can from a private school, sigh). I know who are currently rank one though and they are really nice and helpful, but I’m not sure if they’ll still be number one before graduation since they’ve recently been taking modest classes.

Major thing to remember. TAKE AT LEAST ONE AP CLASS.

It will really help boost your time management. It difficult, yes, but just do it one time isn’t going to hurt you because it will definitely feel like a college course. Plus, you don’t have to take it during your college year if you pass the AP class.

I’m probably only like top 15% because my school doesn’t weigh AP classes. If I took the same classes as everyone else I’d probably be 1st, but I’m not about that life. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know my class rank, and to be honest, I don’t care. I don’t expect myself to be in the top 10%, and I’m completely fine with that.

@Frigidcold @photogeek8

That’s the right mindset! I wish I was like that. I think schools focus too much on who’s “better” than others that it takes away from the learning process.

“Love education hate school” honestly the system is messed up.

How much do SAT Math II and ACT math align? I debating whether it’s possible to take the exams apart and do well on both of them.

@athenanv13 I’m taking the ACT in December and Math 2 in January. Imo, besides the basic trig, there isn’t much of an overlap between the two. There are a lot more statistics, complex trig, and other pre-calc stuff you won’t find on the ACT.

@photogeek8 I guess I’m going to do the same thing as you. Thanks for your help!

In AP Bio today, we started our year long research project which culminates in a presentation at our high school for the community to attend. I am in a group with one other person, and we chose the topic “Is there a possible link between diabetes mortality and socioeconomic status?” Looks fairly interesting. Also, I start tutoring tomorrow for the SAT in December; trying to get those reading and writing scores up to a 700+

To sign up for the ACT in December, or not to sign up for the ACT in December? That is the question. I haven’t done any formal ACT prep but I’ve taken all of the KhanAcademy SATs. Will ~5 weeks be enough to score well (34 or so)? I scored 1520/1600 on new SAT.

@jjlundy 5 weeks is definitely enough if you aren’t too busy with other things. Think setting aside ~45 minutes a day plenty.

Also @frigidcold , once I finish the red book, what else can I use to study?

@jjlundy Personally I got the big 3: Barrons, Princeton, and Kaplan. Think there are a couple online if you just google it.

Btw, 420 blaze it…
