@jjlundy I thought that when we receive our score report in December, it shows our selection index, and if there is an asterisk next to it, then we didn’t make it. So would they do that on this year’s PSAT or will we not know if we qualified until fall of next year?
@tigerman333 5 minutes? How do you get anything done? What do you do? There is no use for a club if it just meets in for 5 minutes! (haha, in my biased opinion ). In my NHS meetings, we talk about upcoming service events (which are usually on a Saturday for 3-5 hours) and do announcements for future things for around 15 minutes. Then, we do a quick 45 minute service project making quilts or stuff like that. What is hate is that my school has a lot of things for little kids…so last week we had to do Trick-or-Street Street which lasted 6 hours (3:00-9:00). So basically I was at the school for more than 12 hours that day :(( and was up very late because I had to do homework.
I don’t know about you guys, but do you guys have to have a certain number of points to stay in the clubs you are in? NHS is the hardest to get points for because it is 5 points per hour and you have to get 100 a semester.
@athenanv13 WOW! NHS at my school requires 5 service points, which are not necessarily 5 hours, but are equated with the amount of effort put into the activities. For example, gardening for 2 hours may receive 3 points, while passing out flyers for 2 hours may receive 2 points. If NHS required 20 hours, I definitely would not do it. I get enough volunteer hours from volunteering at my local library, anyway.
I need to quit a club. I’m losing way to much sleep because of it…the problem is when you’re an officer, they except you to dedicate a lot of time to the club and it’s hard to quit
My school is a little bit different. My school requires 15 service hours/yr (total of 60 by the end of senior year) to even graduate/walk. Also, there are only a few clubs that actually take attendance at meetings… e.g. H4H, SVDP, Science Olympiad, NHS
@YoohooAddict not sure then, I just remember reading something somewhere that the cutoffs are released fall of senior year. HOWEVER, you might know whether or not you’re SF standing when scores are released.
@athenanv13 The meetings are simply for going over point opportunities that are available. We do all the community service outside of school. We need 16 points per semester. We get 1 point for attending a meeting (8 meetings a year). For community service, we get 1 point for the first 10 hrs and then 1 point for every 3 hours after the original ten.
Wow I just missed the SAT deadline, I accidentally marked the deadline on my calendar as the 6th instead of the 5th. =))
Is there any loss in registering late, aside from the added costs? I saw on CC that you aren’t guaranteed a spot, but I’m not sure if that’s actually true.
@Frigidcold When is the latest you recommend prepping for state HOSA competitions? I have no clue how much time people need to invest to do well on their competitions since this is the first year at my school. Since I’m president, they keep asking me…
