High School Class of 2017

I play baseball ALL summer, so I literally don’t have time for summer programs. When I say all summer, I means practice 2-3 days a week and then tournaments every weekend… But I was nominated for GHP, so if I get the opportunity to go I’ll be missing 4 weeks of baseball.

@dsi411 Same. I want to apply for this one internship but I feel uncomfortable with asking my teacher for a recommendation for some reason, probably because I’m just afraid of whether or not they actually like me.

I guess its nice that I know my teachers more personally because our school is so small. Still, my favorite teachers are going to hate me when I ask them to send all these recommendation letters…

I would love to apply to a summer program but they’re all too far away or very expensive. I’m in IL so to fly to either side of the country is pretty $$. I’m just gonna take a class at the local CC and probably get a job somewhere.

What are the names of these programs that you guys abbreviate? RSI? SIMR? MITES ? (I think I’ve heard of it, but I have no idea what it is). I am genuinely lost guys haha. Can someone please fill me in? That would be very much appreciated. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m applying to a lot of summer programs, but I’m somewhat worried, namely because I’m not sure how much my science teachers like me. I have some math teachers who will give me solid recommendations, but I don’t think my science teachers (particularly Chemistry, which is ironic considering it’s my higher grade) think I’m very smart. (Or maybe I’m just nervous.)

I already have a backup internship, though, so I’m good if I don’t get into anything else.

I’m going to go broke from asking my teachers for recommendation letters. at my school if students ask for a recommendation letter, they usually give gifts like $30-50 gift cards. I thought that a thank you letter was okay…but apparently not…

Maybe I’ll just be cheap…haha…jk

My sister did HSHSP last year! She told me the lowest gpa there was 3.9 and lowest sat was 2290 but the sat-er was urm  I’m debating whether I should have a job or do a program because some of them are so costly and I feel as though I can do the same research once I’m in college. I don’t know of any programs that have to do with research in my area of interest either, so if anyone knows of any neuroscience/cognitive programs, let me know!!

@sprights how was her experience at HSHSP?

I’ll keep an eye out for neuroscience programs for you!

I really want to do a summer program for political science, but they’re all so expensive and competitive. I would not want to have to ask my teachers for recommendation letter either.

You guys I’m so worried I need an 800 math this weekend! Math is by far the only subject dragging my scores down

AMAZON PRIME DR. CHUNG’S SAT MATH BOOK IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE TRUST ME

What calculator do you have because I noticed with a ti89 you can do most of the math problems

@athenanv13 I FEEL YOU! The best I’ve done on the science section was 32 (and I still don’t know how).

I’m taking the ACT in less than two weeks, and I’m still at the 31-33 range. I REALLY want to get 34+, but at this point, it just doesn’t seem feasible.

@athenanv13 She LOVED it with a capital L. Everyone was super nice and friendly and she keeps in touch with many of the friends she made. However, my parents feel as though there was too much going on for her (they went to a music festival and the movies and stuff) and she slacked off in the research portion (nothing Intel/Siemens worthy) but each to their own, of course. I would recommend it 100%!
thank you!! just pm me if you find anything:)

@sprights Did most people submit to Intel/Siemens? Was a Siemens semifinalist this year and would really like to try for finalist next year, so whether the research is submission worthy is an important factor for me.

@Frigidcold Yeah, definitely. I’ll ask her how many are entering. She is interested in physics and nuclear physics (or something complicated like that, not really sure, I just know she studied something environmental) and that wasn’t her topic of choice so that might be why she wasn’t fully involved. Nevertheless, she said she learned a lot and that it was a great program! If you do apply though, definitely try to get a position researching the topic of your choice because it makes it much more enjoyable.

Class of 2016 hit 1000 pages, they’re obviously superior…

Do you guys know of any Computer Science related internships that I can apply for?

Over the the summer I plan to enroll in a program if I could find one or begim taking college courses at a local community college although I am still in highschool just to save money. I also plan in senior year to do half-time HS and the other half at a local community college taking courses just to get a head start on my degrees, and mainly to save momey. What do you all think about this and what suggestions could you make I do whether it’s for over the summer or next year senior year?
