@blackwidow7 Ayy, first of all, congrats on getting your acceptance and I’m sorry to hear that your friends didn’t get admitted, regardless of whether they deserved it or not. To be utterly honest with you, people should expect this type of stuff to happen. We live in an unfair world, wherein you won’t get all which you want. Yes, sometimes you may deserve something, but it very often you won’t get it, and a lot of times there is no reason behind you not getting it. It’s just how life revolves, and you just have to lift your head up and continue along with life.
A few of our friends didn’t get in to our state school, where one of my friends and I got admitted. To help them get over the rejection, we took them out for lunch at a restaurant near our school and talked them over it. We told them things like, “You’ll make it in to other institutions.Even if you don’t get into this school, you’ll end up somewhere else, and there you can start a great life.” We also reminded them of the fact that no matter where a person goes, they can still make a great living, if they really put their mind and heart into it. Yea, in short, we tried to alleviate their pain by reminding them that there are tons of other schools out there ready to take them and that they can still can excel in those instutions, that their success isn’t limited exclusively to this specific university.
Hope that helps!
@YoohooAddict asdf I’ve been telling some of my friends that stuff for a while, but at this point, they only have a few colleges left, all of which are only slightly less competitive as the ones they were rejected from (or uber-competitive)
and like I feel really bad about the fact that they keep getting rejected bc I keep telling them it’s going to get better when obviously it isn’t? esp. because people who took less rigorous courses and got As are getting in and they aren’t because they took harder courses agh (& + at my school there’s a huge stigma associated with going to “easier” colleges which doesn’t help when you’re rejected)
I just got notified early of my RD acceptances to Williams (where I was chosen to be a Tyng scholar!) and Wesleyan!! I’m so excited!
And, agh, I know… it was the hardest to see my amazingly talented and qualified best friend get rejected from her top school… I have no idea what to say or how to make it better in any way, especially since I haven’t gotten rejected from anywhere yet (but that’s bound to change March 30th lol).
@blackwidow7 Ah yes, I understand. Well, I know it definitely must be tough to keep on telling them that they’ll get in when in reality the trend is going in the opposite direction, but you have to keep through it. The chances of them getting rejected by all the schools on their list are just low. However, even if they do end up getting rejected by their top schools and/or enroll in lower schools, they’ll still remember you as someone who helped them live through that moment and endure every single bit of it. They’ll also take into account your words of optimism of how they can still do well in lower schools. And if they get in to their top schools, they’ll remember how you would constantly tell them to not give up and that they’d get admitted to some of their top schools. At the end, that’s all you can do. You really can’t impact school’s decisions of whether to accept them or not. All you can do is change the way your friends look at the scenario. Make them look towards the positive, and even if they do end up going to lower schools, who gives a crap? It’s their life, their education, and their choice. If people don’t respect that, then they shouldn’t mind them. After all, if those people were really their friends (just like you are to them), they’d accept them, regardless of what school they go to. They wouldn’t put them down for going to a lower school but rather motivate them to do their best in whatever educational environment they join. General rule: haters gonna hate. potatoes gonna potate, and mangoes gonna manganate. So, if you wanna enjoy yourself for your individuality, you have to put aside the haters and focus on what pleases you instead.
Waitlisted at Gtech
It was supposed to be my safety LOL
Congrats to everyone who got in to schools though!
I know how it feels to be rejected when all my friends were accepted. To be honest, it takes some time and college visits to colleges that’ve already accepted me to realize I’ll have great opportunities no matter where I go. I think it’ll just take some time for them to realize that.
@Bse15578 Are you joking about Georgia Tech being a safety or was that comment serious?
@tigerman333 wait have they gotten more selective recently??? There are usually lots of kids who get accepted from our school each year. I thought it would be a safety
@Bse15578 They do have a ~25% acceptance rate. It’s even harder for OOS
I was rejected to Macalester today ughhhh it was the only reach i thought i had a shot at tbh
@tigerman333 dang their acceptance rate dropped really quick. I thought it was 33%, as it was in 2015
UChicago decisions are coming out this Friday afternoon…
me right now: dreading friday and college decisions (aka rejections)
also me: why can’t friday/end of march come sooner???
i am literally one big ball of stress
@Faultystart Which other schools come out Friday?
holy crap. I KNOW I will get rejected from Uchigaco and all the “elite” schools I applied to, but I hate that I’ll be slightly disappointed when this happens. My excuse for applying to these schools was “well I won’t care if I get rejected (knowing I would)” but for some reason I kind of will care! I hope it’s just a little sting though. Then I’ll shake it off because I have my state flagship (for free!!) that I really love.
@tigerman333 for me, uchicago, ucla and there are rumors of northwestern, brandeis, and pomona around that time (thursday/friday) and saturday is bu
uchicago’s my top choice :"") with ucla and upenn tied close behind so friday’s gonna be emotional
@Faultystart Good luck! I really like Chicago but I want to leave IL. I didn’t know NU is going to be this week too, ugh. The worst part is I’ll be at the state debate tournament when results come out so I can’t check them until later that night. I just want to get into UCB hahahaha
askdjf;aslkdfj mit and uchi aka my top two (in that order) are this week i love my dreams getting crushed
me?? no i’m just quietly weeping in the corner don’t mind me
@desideratum Doesn’t MIT come out tomorrow?
Yes @tigerman333
Wait, so JHU and UChic comes out this Friday? Where do you guys find these things out?! o_o
