High School Class of 2018

We go back on the 5th. I’m proud of this semester…
English: 99
Biology: 99
Band: 100
Sociology: 100
I would say I don’t like the 99s, but that would make me a try hard I guess.
Things are going pretty well for me. How about everyone else? This school year I’ll have taken a total of 4 dual enrollment which sounds good to me. Sociology, College Algebra, some other math class, and World History.

Also, does anyone have a job already? I’m thinking about getting one. To be honest, I usually have plenty of free time now since marching band is over so I feel a job could be good. Also, I could get my driver’s license soon too if I wanted to. I feel like I’m growing up… it’s making me sad :frowning: 2 years away from being an adult and I feel like a child.

My 3rd post in a row but… I’m really glad marching band is over. It took so much time I hated it. You can’t do anything else because of it and I just hate it. I do it though because of the people :). Oh gosh… doing that and having to build the home coming float for the tenth graders for student government had me going home at 10 PM. Talk about being irritable and stressed… Also, starting next month, 10th graders are allowed to be inducted into Tri-M and NHS. Maybe I can have fun with those and have something new to do. The only things I’m involved in this year are band things and student government. I tried Academic Bowl but I couldn’t answer anything lol

¡hola! @HelloThereLola Those are some pretty good grades. I don’t have a job, but I’m planning on getting one this summer.

@HelloThereLola Wow those are some amazing grades! I dont have a job, but I’m trying to find somewhere to voulenteer in my free time.

@tonyk16 @Halmon My bad, I never knew there was difference or two different tests. My school offers the PSAT/NMSQT in freshman, sophomore and junior year.

@frazzledazzle you are right.

Currently annotating Frankenstein! This book is pretty interesting! If I read and/or annotate 15 pages a day, I’ll have it finished by Monday.

When I was a freshman last year we took the Readistep test (now the PSAT 8/9). The PSAT/NMSQT is the standardized test the sophomores and juniors take (only the juniors qualify for the National Merit Scholarship). That’s what it’s like at my school, at least.

@ak2018 That’s awesome! I’m reading “Of Mice and Men” tomorrow. My book is so old, I’m afraid I’m going to break it. (genuinely afraid since I’m an avid book lover)

Oh really @frazzledazzle ! How is it (Of Mice and Men)?

Edit: I just realized you haven’t read it yet. Lol Hope you find it enjoyable!

@ak2018 Thank you! I hope I find it enjoyable, too. I always despise being forced to read books for school. I usually hate them (ex. The Pearl by John Steinbeck 7th grade year).

Same @frazzledazzle !

Hey everyone, so since we’ve been chatting for a long time now it’s amazing to see that we have made it all the way to 2016. So, ever year each person makes their “New Year Resolution”, since we are on College Confidential we might as well make our “Grade Resolutions”.

So I guess I’ll start, I hope to get…

Photography 1: 90
English 10: 92
U.S History:92
Biology: 96
Algebra 2 Accelerated: 95
French: 93

So yea. What about you guys?

@apple1893 I like that idea! Wish I thought of it! :)) Here’s mine:

These are the grades I hope to get by the end of second quarter.

Computer Math: 97% - 100% - A
HPE I - 93% - 100% - A
Pre-AP World History I - 87% - 100% - (Between a B+ and an A)
Spanish I - 90% - 100% - A
Pre-AP Chemistry - 87% - 100% - (Between a B+ and an A)
Algebra II - 90% - 100% - A
Pre-AP English 10 - 90% - 100% - A

I hope these grades are obtainable for me!

Good luck!! @apple1893 @ak2018 I hope I’ll get…

Lit & Comp 2 Honors: A
AP World History: A
Honors Chem: A-
Ballroom Dance: A
Spanish 3: A+
Algebra 2/Trig: A+
I think I’m probably going to get all A-s though, at this rate… ):

@apple1893 Good idea!
For 2nd quarter:
Chemistry I H- 96
AP Physics I- 95
French III H- 94
Pre-Calc H- 96
Art Foundations- 100
English II H- 98
AP World History- 95
This all should be pretty obtainable based on where my grades are at now.

For 3rd quarter
Chem- 98
AP Physics- 95
French- 96
Calc/Stats Seminar H- 98
Art- 100
English- 98
APWH-95
For 3Q I really want to put more effort into chemistry and French because, ironically, they are my two of my easiest classes, besides art lol. I tend to slack off and not take them seriously so I end up getting a much lower grade then what I know I could get if I just put in some effort.

@Tedalkfan It’s all good. Just a miscommunication.
@apple1893 That’s an awesome idea!
1st Semester/2nd Semester/Final Grade:
AP Comp Sci- 90/95/93 (probably not going to happen, unless I magically become a gifted coder) :))
Princ. of Eng.- 95/96/96
AP World His- 94/97/96 (probably not going to happen either)
Pre-AP Biology-99/100/100
Pre-AP Pre-Calc-96/97/97
Pre-AP English 2-97/98/98
Honors Choir- 98//
Honors Orchestra- 100//
**I didn’t include goals for choir/orchestra b/c they wouldn’t be realistic. My grade is at the director’s full discretion.

Wow @Hamlon ! You’re taking two music classes. I wish I had the time. Also, I’m planning on taking Principles of Engineering next year, would you mind saying how it’s like. Also, even though our school won’t have it, how is AP Computer Science?

@ak2018 Principles of Engineering really depends on your teacher and school. Some places treat it as an honors class and others don’t. I know for sure that you have to take a national exam at the end of the year, so the curriculum doesn’t vary that much across schools. POE is like an applied Physics and math class. All the topics go around skills you need for building structures and calculating important attributes of those structures. This class helps you form the skills you need for a career in engineering like collaboration, problem-solving, and documentation. If you like Math, then this class will be a breeze! My teacher lets us have open note quizzes and tests. I am not sure if that is a common thing to do. AP Comp Sci really depends on the teacher too and the previous knowledge of most of the students. I have to say that class is probably the most important one you can take in school because it opens up so many opportunities and allows you to make the things you have always wanted to. It’s my hardest class though because you can’t really study for it. You have to practice and really understand the concepts or else you quickly find yourself stuck. It’s not like a rigid math class where the answers are already there. You kind of have free reign to do whatever feels right and tackle a problem in many ways. This class gives you the tools to be independent in teaching yourself how to code in other languages, what makes the difference between a “great” and “excellent” programmer, and proper coding “etiquette.”
Sorry for the long post, but I love both of these classes! :x

@Madeline25 we take very similar courses(just science). Are you going to do physics C next year?

@ak2018 @Halmon It really depends on your knowledge. AP CS is one of my easiest classes. Though I took CS50 before which I think is way harder than AP.

@Tedalkfan No, I’ll be taking IB SL Bio and IB SL Chem over the next two years and taking the AP test for both at the end of the year. My school doesn’t offer it, so I’d have to self study it and I just don’t have the room in my schedule :frowning:

I’d love to take AP ComSci, but once again no room on my schedule. Seems like a super useful thing to know and sounds interesting too!
