High School Class of 2018

Sure I guess lol @tonyk16

And the class of 2021?..^

Yes lol ! I don’t want this game anymore :)) :)) @tonyk16

Anyone planning on taking the ACT this February? The deadline is about to pass and I’m still trying to figure out if I should take it or not. My goal would be to score a 29 or higher because that’s what I’ve usually been making on the practice exams. Hopefully, the science section doesn’t kick my butt like it usually does! I don’t want to waste money, but practicing early seems like a good idea. I’m also a little anxious about the PSAT scores because I think I did bad on the reading section. :-SS

@Hamlon Unfortunately no. I plan on taking the ACT and SAT sometime during January of 2017

@ak2018 I heard that Junior year is when people first take the tests, but I figured the earlier the better. I just thought about taking it now because people say that time can fly by. I wanted to find my strengths and weaknesses before it would be too late to raise my scores. I think if I had to last minute cram and write college apps, my brain would stop functioning. :))
I’m not sure, but I think some summer programs require standardized scores.

@Hamlon I’m planning on taking it in April, mostly to confirm my preference to the ACT (over the SAT).

@Hamlon Yeah I figured taking both would be a good thing to do. My counselor said to do both as some colleges may take the best score out of each and do an SAT-ACT conversion.

@frazzledazzle Thanks, that book is toooooo expensive. I will have to look for a pdf version online.

@Halmon I plan on taking the SAT in October 2016. If I get my anticipated score I won’t do another SAT or any ACT. I also can’t wait for PSAT because if I don’t do really well, I will be disappointed as I studied for long.

Well, I didn’t take the PSAT this past fall…

Should I take the ACT or not?? :-??

@Hamlon I’m only taking the SAT. Less money my family has to spend.

@Tedalkfan I’m also taking the SAT in October 2016 (that’s when my school takes it, I think). Either then or spring 2017. I have no idea.
I can’t wait for the PSAT results, also. I want to know how I did so I know what to study (and in how much detail I need to study it) for the PSAT and SAT next year.

@tonyk16 I think there is a PSAT 10 date in late February.

@frazzledazzle Really!? I need to find out about that becauseI really should take it before next year.

@frazzledazzle Is it common for schools to offer the PSAT 10? I don’t think my school plans on having us take that test. That kind of bums me out because I heard that the PSAT 10 can qualify you for scholarships (not national merit).

@Halmon yeah, it is common for schools to offer the PSAT 10. Also, only PSAT taken in junior year qualifies for national merit or any other scholarship you are talking about. I took it in ninth grade as well, but these year it was in format of new SAT.

@frazzledazzle You are mistaken the only dates are in fall which already passed. The reason could be when they give scores they also hand out the whole test booklet with it. Also, it is the same test in a given year for 10 and 11 grade.

@tonyk16 It is important you take it in your junior year, there are no chances you can do it this year.

@Tedalkfan I agree.

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a few days. Personal issues, ugh, that are (hopefully, maybe?) under somewhat control now.

@Hamlon That’s awful! My city experienced flash flooding just a bit ago and it hit some people near me. It’s scary as heck. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I’m not planning on taking SAT/ACT until junior year. GC said it was unnecessary. Also my math teacher who regularly places students in top schools has said nothing about it so yeah. He did say he was expecting the majority of your class to make National Merit. We will see what happens.
:-S

@Tedalkfan But isn’t the PSAT 10 in February or March? I know it won’t qualify me for any scholarship, but wanted to take it to prepare myself for the SAT/PSAT next year when they really matter.

@Hamlon My school gives the PSAT/NMSQT to both 10th and 11th grade students, but only the 11th graders qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. I think you could find a PSAT 10 testing location in your area on the CollegeBoard website.

@Tedalkfan The PSAT 10 is in February, whereas the PSAT/NMSQT is in October.

@tonyk16 The PSAT 10 is in February. I think there is some confusion spreading in this thread right now regarding PSAT 10 vs. PSAT/NMSQT.

@Madeline25 Thanks for the concern. My whole family is fine. The only damage we had was a leaky roof. :))
@Tedalkfan The college board website said that PSAT 10 scores can qualify you for outside scholarships. I know it doesn’t affect national merit.

@ak2018 @Hamlon. i took the December ACT as a sophomore and I feel like it was a good experience. Go for it as early as possible because I feel like taking the ACT now will help in the future. If you take the ACT, order a Test Information Release. Good luck.
