High School Class of 2018

Most colleges do accept the old sat for the class of 2018. This is my last chance (January SAT), and I’m studying for it so I won’t have the stress in junior year, the worst year of hs. Even if I do fail, at least my experience with this one will have some benefits on the new sat.

And also, if you want ample time to study, you should probably start now…

@thetex I don’t plan to take the SAT until junior year, so I think I’m good for now. x) I think I’ll start over the summer. Personally, I’m most worried about the math section for the SAT, so I want to complete Algebra II first. Based on the PSAT, I’m doomed if I don’t, and I’d rather a teacher help me than try to self-study new concepts.

Good luck, though! Hopefully you can take this once and be done with it. :smiley:

@Madeline25

That is a really good explanation. I am more of STEM person too.

My school requires IB English HL for one of your HL. The other 2-3 are up to you.

@thetex from what i heard most colleges are undecided between accepting the old SAT for the class of 2018 so I say why study for the old SAT instead of studying for the new one since i probablly will get better at the test as a junior as opposed to a sophomore

@thetex Why not wait 2 months and take the new SAT? I just feel like it would be a better idea to take the new one instead because that is the one you can prepare the most for. The new one also fits the current PSAT’s format, so you’d be killing two birds with one stone when you study for either. Also, welcome to the thread as a fellow Texan. :wink:

Anyone here not making any New Year’s resolutions? I know I’m not. I just don’t really like the concept of choosing goals to accomplish and only trying to accomplish them on or after a certain day I.e. January 1st. I feel that if you want to accomplish something, start now! Don’t say you’ll start January 1st and keep going. However, if you want to keep trying to accomplish your goal, even after a faliure or two, then that’s good. I’m not trying to sound mad or anything, it’s just that every year people make these resolutions, like going to the gym more, do it for two weeks and then stop. So I usually don’t make New Year’s Resolutions anymore. I just make goals and accomplish them throughout the year.

I apologize for my rant above, but it is my opinion on New Year’s resolutions. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year! I will probably be on CC minutes before the New Year, so yeah.

@LeopardFire @BucketsUCSC I’m preparing for the old one since I got 2260 in December on the old SAT.

750 math 760 reading 750 writing

my October sat was:

800 math 700 reading 750 writing

Superscore of 2310.

I think I have a good chance to break 2300 in January, since I screwed up on the essay and math in December (If I had gotten a 10 essay like I did last time, I would have gotten 800 writing)

@thetex Oh my goodness those are some amazing scores!

My school also only offers AP classes. I wish it offered the IB program, but my school (and probably the majority of my state) doesn’t do that sort of thing. At least we have ~19 AP classes (I plan on taking 7-9 of them).

@Hamlon I took Physics in 9th grade, too! I’m just not an engineering person like you and @ak2018 are. I take it for the application to Astronomy and Planetary Science.

@LeopardFire I’m also waiting until junior year to take the SAT. I’m just waiting on the PSAT scores to see what I have to work on the most for the new SAT.

@ak2018 I’m making New Year’s resolutions this year so I can get myself in line this upcoming year. I’m also planning on setting some goals to accomplish. I haven’t made any in the past.

@thetex Those scores are amazing!!

I’m probably not going to be online for the rest of the night, so Happy New Year everyone!! See you next year! <:-P

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Year! (:

Still an hour left for me. This year went by too fast!!

It really did @raffie

Happy New Year folks! How did it go @raffie? I literally turned on the TV about thirty seconds before the NYC ball dropped then changed the channel, lol.

The first song I listened to for 2016 is…The House of the Rising Sun! Probably the best song ever. Okay Y’all, write up those new year resolutions, if you do that type of thing I know I don’t like to.

Track meet Saturday, or should I just say tomorrow… It is probably going to be a rough one though because we haven’t really had enough practices in over vacation.

Anyways, <:-P <:-P <:-P

@tonyk16 The first song I listened to this year was HEAVEN by Troye Sivan. I had my Spotify playlist on shuffle at 2am.
I was at a party last night, so we had the ball drop on for the last 10 minutes before midnight, along with a few minutes afterward.

Happy New Year everyone!!

@tonyk16 lol I fell asleep… embarrassing

@raffie I did too. It’ll be 2016 for an entire year and I’m perfectly fine seeing it for the first time when I wake up lol.

@Madeline25 @raffie I honestly stayed up, like I do every year. My parents let me stay up as a kid and I always did. Now that I’m 15, staying up past 12am isn’t a problem anymore, it’s an every day, or night, thing. Even my little brother, who is 7 and autistic, stayed up.

Did you guys also hear about Netflix having a fake countdown so kids can go to bed earlier? A lot of parents were discussing whether or not it was good or bad parenting to need a tool to apparently “trick” your kid into going to sleep earlier and whether or not making your child stay up was also good or bad parenting. The discussion soon became a brutal argument about a belief in God and having different beliefs, as well as people saying there is only one way to parent your kid.

Just wanted to share something interesting. Not really trying to start a debate. I honestly wouldn’t care if you let your kid stay up or not.

@ak2018 I stay up until twelve a lot of nights, but I was tired yesterday! I did my late night partying with friends on Christmas Eve so I was content to stay in this time.
ETA: I just realize you said no debates lol so I edited out my opinion
