It does look like Khan Academy is the best choice right now! I probably wouldn’t get any of the new prep books released last year because they have bad reviews.
OK cool! Thanks for the info @HelloThereHola !
@av2222 I got all of the write-in questions wrong. I was off by a lot.
@LosingCrayon The Selection Index confuses me. I have no idea what it would be good for (other than providing a cut-off number for NMS).
@LeopardFire All of the Humanities ones are 3 circles, same with some of the STEM courses. The rest are 2 circles. Funny thing is, I got 3 circles for AP Calc AB, yet my mom and math teacher don’t want me to take the class next year for math (I think I could take it with some effort).
I heard AP Stats was really easy (at least at my school) and not worth it to take it.
There’s a tab on the score sheet titled “AP Potential” which has the dot thing.
@tonyk16 I am going to have a somewhat “heavy” course load next year. I’m going to be taking between 2 and 4 AP classes. I’m definitely taking AP Lang and APUSH, and I might take AP Calc AB (if I complete the prerequisite this summer) and AP Chem.
@Medachimasen I feel so sorry for you. Can you talk to someone in administration about your teacher? I’m sorry you have to go through that.
@ak2018 That is a fascinating excerpt. I’m definitely going to read the story sometime!
@HelloThereHola You can link your PSAT scores to Khan Academy to get personalized practice. I feel you. I got 1220 and I want to score, by old SAT standards, the equivalent of a 2330 next year.
@frazzledazzle We should make this a competition and see who can score higher next October. We’re at almost the same level, and this could keep us motivated to study. Also, why specifically a 2,330? I just want over a 2,200. The selection index is for National Merit, nothing else.
Next year, my goal is to make 99th percentile. This could be achievable for me.
@frazzledazzle It really is an amazing story. It was written by a Russian writer named Anton Chekhov.
I am planning, at this point, to do 1 AP class next year, which is AP Chemistry. I have to pick my classes for the next year next month and I have a set of alternatives for my electives.
- Introduction to Engineering Design
- AP Statistics
- AP Economics
Also, I just linked my Khan Academy account to my College Board account and they really have a lot of good resources. They have a practice PSAT test and 4 SAT tests for free as well as individualized help. I might just use it instead of the book.
@ak2018 it looks like college board has chapters from the book posted on their website too. If everything is online for free, what’s the point of buying the book then? lol I guess maybe since it’s printed, and printing is a pain.
Also does anyone know anyone programming languages? If so, what and how many? In my Computer Math class, I have learned about Excel, Google Forms and am currently working in Visual Basic. I find Visual Basic fairly easy and we’ve been working with it since the end of October. We will be working with Scratch and Python later this year. If I can’t take another Engineering class senior year, then I plan on taking a Programming class. I actually really do want to learn how to code. I might take a Java class online this summer that is $151.
@HelloThereHola Yup. There is pretty much no reason to buy the books. Khan Academy now knows more about the new SAT than any of those book companies do now. Now that they’ve teamed up with College Board to provide free resources to help with testing resources, they will likely blow all other book companies right out of the water. Now all we need is College Board and Khan Academy to come out with the ultimate PSAT and SAT prep book and we’ll be set for Life.
Also, if anyone has read the short story “The Bet”, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
@HelloThereHola I kind of like the spirit of competition, sometimes, maybe that’d be a good idea. But also, I don’t want the PSAT to seem like a competition, the test is already stressful enough and I don’t know how I’d feel about this. That’s just my opinion though.
@ak2018 I currently don’t know any programming languages but I’m interested and plan on taking AP Computer Science A next year.
That’s pretty cool @Phantomlink I was planning on taking that class next year, but it is unlikely that my school will have it. I would recommend, if you’re going to take it in school and not online, to see if your teacher knows how to code and program in atleast Java. A lot of AP Computer Science teachers don’t know how this concept.
Does anyone know of any summer programs that are easy to get into? I want to do some compsci summer thing but I don’t feel like asking my teachers for more letters of rec and getting rejected )’:
Unfortunately, no. I wish! @raffie
@ak2018 no need to purchase a class, go on edx.org. Plenty of classes on there. Also @Phantomlink Im self-studying AP CS It i really fun
@HelloThereHola That’s a deal! Friendly competition, of course. I meant 2300. At least 2200 would be nice, too.
I have the same goal! One of my classmates (a junior) scored 1420. 99th percentile in all categories.
@ak2018 I’m contemplating AP Chemistry. I need to talk to my parents, Biology teacher, and guidance counselor to see if it would be a good idea.
I think Khan Academy would be better than the books. The books might still be based off the old PSAT.
Can someone rate my Junior Year Schedule:
AP Calc AB
AP English Literature
AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics
IB Chemistry HL
IB Spanish SL
PLTW Medical Interventions
@frazzledazzle I’m thinking of taking AP Chem as well!! I’m a little hesitant to talk to my counselor about some schedule choices since they always try to limit you to take only 3 honors/AP classes. That’s a good idea though. I would want to take AP Psych and AP Physics sometime during high school as well…
@nyuhopeful44 It looks really good, good luck! You already have your junior year schedule?
@apple1983 yeah our course requests are due next week
@nyuhopeful44 That schedule looks great!
@raffie I want to take the class for what I want to major in, but I’m a little hesitant because they might say “no” due to my grade in AP Biology right now. I plan on taking AP Physics, also! AP Psych isn’t offered at my school.
My school starts doing course requests in a 2 weeks, so I’ll post mine up then! This week is the last week before mid-terms. :-SS Thank goodness mid-terms week is all half days!
