@ak2018 you’re a junior?
oh you meant junior member @apple1893 my bad.
I just found out David Bowie died :(( :(( :(( Whhhhhyyyyyy?
@HelloThereHola My state (Maine) and school are basically all white. Even though the cities are pretty liberal, the rural areas are conservative. Our governor is a racist. Everyone is sick of him. The state government has been trying to get him impeached since last year.
@ak2018 My state’s stereotypes are that we’re basically Canadian (true for me), love lobster (I hate seafood), and only wear L.L.Bean clothes (somewhat true).
I found out on the way to school when looking on Facebook. When I told my sister and English teacher, they both nearly cried.
@HelloThereHola I’m from Michigan and the area I’m from is predominantly white (myself included)
@ak2018 lol idk what my state’s stereotypes are??? Maybe crime bc of Detroit (but I live in the north part…)
@frazzledazzle I’d be okay with being Canadian.
@nyuhopeful44 Most of the people I know associate Detroit with crime and bankruptcy.
Well I’m pretty much just failed my World History quiz. I’ll be lucky to make a B+ this quarter. Bad news: I just talked to my counselor and unless I take AP World History, I can’t take the end of course test if I self study World History II.
@ak2018 from what I’ve been told self studying is not worth the effort as it has almost no weight in admissions some exceptions would be I physics or calculus weren’t offered to a prospective engineering major at their high school they would take the AP course to demonstrate understanding.I think you’d be best suited to focus on your current classes
Thanks for the advice @BucketsUCSC
You guys get on during school? :-? @Ollieos You may be right because of what @ak2018 said. I live in a medium sized town and most here aren’t “hillbillies”. Even in the more rural areas, they speak with a southern accent and have southern traditions, but besides that, theres nothing. Hillbilly to me is when they speak so southern, it’s hard to understand. It’s when they’re especially illiterate and other things too. With this in mind, most people aren’t hillbillies.I used to live in a very small town a couple of years ago and people weren’t even southern that much. Maybe its just Georgia.
Self-studying could be good because it shows initiative, but other than that, I wouldn’t consider it too important on an agenda. @ak2018
This is partly random, but I find it funny I was on this thread the February before high school. I was so excited to be going, and I couldn’t wait to learn. Needless to say, high school didn’t live up to my expectations. Idk; I was expecting something different. How about you guys? lol
@HelloThereHola I definitely felt that way about starting HS. I could do without the sleepless nights but I’ve made a lot of great friends that also want to be doctors. However, the stress of everything will make me grey-haired by the time I graduate
@frazzledazzle Ayuh, I would agree with stereotypes there bub. Lol. I love Maine, and the LL bean one is so close to being true though.
Oh well, I think I am going to have some suppah soon with a Moxie and clean up the door yahd because that was a humdingah of a storm last night. Tore up most of the yahd. Have a wicked good evening now folks.
@tonyk16 Yah, bub. The rain was a wicked pissah. Lost all dah snow. Woulda been bettah as snow. Getta go catch some suppah ice fishin’ or eat lobstah in Bah Habah.
All of the girls at my school wear Bean Boots. It’s insane. LL Bean is great, though. I love it.
Havvah wicked good evening, bub.
@HelloThereHola I was SO excited to start high school. I remember when I was in 6th grade and my brother was in 8th. He was getting his high school course recommendations and program of studies. I was more into it than he was. I was looking up colleges that were known for writing (Emory was on my radar, now I don’t know if my GPA will be good enough, not to mention its in Georgia). Most of all, I was looking forward to freedom, especially when it came to things like course selection.
Now that I’m in high school, I do appreciate the freedom, but its more stressful than I ever imagined. To be fair, that has mostly been due to this year, since I only took one honors class as a freshman. I knew kids going in with all honors, I can’t imagine how much of a wake-up call that was. I also think its kinda funny how much I dream about college now, kinda like how I did about high school in middle school.
I’m a little late to the stereotype party, but I think the general stereotypes for Connecticut is that we are rich… I’m Jewish, I live in a wealthy suburb, and I am not rich. However, I am surrounded by people who are, so I guess the stereotype is kinda true. Our cities are actually quite poor though.
The stereotype does exist in my state, which is California. I’m Asian, and well, too many people know about that
particular stereotype. I will say that I don’t think it’s true.
Does anybody else wish they could get rid of their freshman year GPA? In 9th grade I averaged an 86% (3.1), my 10th grade is a 90 or a 3.5 (#improvement). So then once you average it, its like a 3.25 or something… I am trying really hard to improve but, I just don’t no. Please tell me, before more people join the thread, is anyone else in the same boat with their GPA? And is it stupid of me to still dream of going to MIT, Harvard, and so on? It kinda almost “haunts” me everyday, and I really wanted to get it off my chest.
@apple1893 According to a CC thread from a few years back, Stanford and Princeton don’t factor in your freshman GPA, and I’m sure there are other colleges are the same way. Not to mention, colleges like seeing an upwards trend in grade performance. Don’t give up because of your freshman year.
I feel kinda bad about my freshman GPA. I’m afraid it will be just low enough to stop my GPA average in junior year from reaching where I want it to be. I guess I just have to accept that what’s done is done.
it’s not stupid to have dreams/goals @apple1893
