High School Class of 2018

Hey I was wondering, how do you guys have the motivation to stay up and study? I can be up late if I’m doing actual homework that I need to study for, but a test that’s a week from now? How do you guys do that?

@nyuhopeful44 I stay up usually until 1:30 am (on avg) doing hw.

My motivation? I want to make my parents proud I want to feel satisfied as a student, I want to build a reputation where I am looked as a well-rounded individual (which grades do account for). And yes, I do think of these things every time I study.

If you have a test that is from a week of now, you don’t have to study all in one night because you may forget information as time goes. Break it down into moderation.

@apple1893 so everytime you feel like going to bed you just think of what you’re working for? I can try that, thanks!

Yea, and it maybe tiring just remember, you can always sleep-in during the weekend. @nyuhopeful44

I do the exact same thing @apple1893

Might have posted this before, but I don’t think anyone saw it, or it was simply disregarded.

Haven’t been on this thread lately. Anyways, in Chemistry today, we were talking about all of the options for science classes we could take. Also, that teacher recommendations are coming up. I asked my teacher if she would recommend me for AP Chem and she said yes and that I have definitely improved from first quarter. Next Friday, we’ll be writing down what two classes we want to be recommended for. My first choice is AP Chem and second choice is Physics I. She also liked the fact that I was taking two Engineering classes.

@ak2018 could you put AP physics as an alternative instead? Or is physics 1 a prerequisite?

@nyuhopeful44 Actually I could take either one. However, my Chemistry teacher said that based on my grade right now, and if I do well during second semester (which she says is the most important part of AP Chemistry) that AP Chemistry would be a perfect fit for me. She also usually doesn’t recommend, unless you’re getting all A’s and are taking a lot of Honors classes, that anyone does more than one AP Science class per year. I do, however, plan to do Physics, regular or AP, senior year. I’ve heard AP Physics horror stories from the kids in that class and they’re not pretty. The only prerequisite of Physics I is Algebra II and two other Science classes, Trig helps too.

@ak2018 @nyuhopeful44 AP Physics is one of the hardest AP classes. It is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest, class at my school.

@frazzledazzle @ak2018 really? It’s a joke at my school, but idk how students do on the exam.

@ak2018 that’s great about AP Chemistry! Good luck!

@frazzledazzle @nyuhopeful44 It’s not a joke at my school. So much that the only way to get in is go take Algebra II/Trig and two science classes. It used to be where you could take Algebra II then Functions/Trig then take any Physics class you want. Too many people didn’t have a good math background.

Also @frazzledazzle One of my friends, who’s in my Chemistry class, would kill to be in Astronomy. She hates the fact that the class got cancelled and the teacher was fired because the students thought it was going to be an easy class and they all failed the exam. I would honestly love to do astronomy, if I had the time.

@frazzledazzle it used to be the hardest class at my school, it was the only class in school where no one got an A, but we got a new teacher who brought down the difficulty of the course. so in my school the ranking of hardest classes is

  1. AP Bio
  2. AP Calc BC
    3.AP Physics
    4.AP Chem
    5.Honors Pre calc
    6.AP Calc AB
    7.AP Lit
    8.AP Gov
    9.WHAP

based off percentage of kids who get A’s

I motivate myself by knowing that I’m doing this for me and no one else. I don’t do it for my parents or my teachers. I know the only person who it will benefit is me. This set of mine really makes me motivated for some reason. Knowing that I’m doing good for myself makes me work harder.

The hardest class at my school is probably AP Chemistry lol. Most who take the exam fail it. This is probably followed by AP Calculus. I dont know about the rest.

AP Chemistry is also the hardest class at my school, in fact it’s known for being so difficult that barely any students ever sign up for it. Due to this lack of people they only offer it like every other year when they have just enough students for a class period.

Well, I am going to be up doing a research paper that I have due tomorrow. I am not getting any sleep tonight, anyone with me or nah? I really need to stop procrastinating, yet I am on here right now so… I NEED TO STAHP. Ha, I will probably just bounce back and forth all night.

@nyuhopeful44 It is really hard, but the teacher is very nice. I had her for Physics 9 last year. She even gives her AP students pizza during the AP exam (or final - I forgot).

@ak2018 Anybody can take Physics - Level 1, but I think you need teacher recommendation to take AP Physics (or there is a prerequisite).
Me, too. I was almost in it this year, but they realized I wasn’t a junior, so they kicked me out of the class the day before school started. I’m taking it next year, though. You need to have Chemistry in order to take the class. Astronomy is my LIFE (other than music)!

@BucketsUCSC I think it depends on the teacher and student ability for how difficult a class is. For me, AP Biology is easy.

@HelloThereHola AP Chemistry is really hard, too. I’m glad I chose not to go into it. I’m going to take Honors - same weight as AP, not as hard!

@PhantomLink At my school, there are multiple classes that are on the menu but aren’t taught due to less than 6 people signing up for them.

@frazzledazzle I’ve never seen it done that way, but it does sound like a good way to ease into it. We are starting Calc AB material next semester eeeeek! I’m sorry; I should have let you answer.

@ak2018 I’m currently in AP Physics I and its really not that bad. I have a 94 in there and I don’t really um study all that much. It’s a challange, but in a good sense. It has a reputation for being a very hard exam to pass. I think it had the lowest pass rate of all AP exams or close to it. You definatley want a good teacher. I’m not concerned though because my teacher has a good track record for getting students good scores.
