@ak2018 @HelloThereHola I think the problem with the Virginia area is that temperatures are right around freezing point so it is a mix of rain/freezing rain and snow, and that is the worst possible mix to drive in. I have only been involved in a crash where it had been freezing rain then turned into a snowy mix, covering up patches of ice. Very frightening if you think about it. We actually don’t have it that bad compared to others, look at places like Minnesota or North Dakota, very cold and snowy.
@HelloThereHola Yup that’s the one. Lol I remember this one time when we had snow the first day we came back from Winter Break last year. Our counties saw that it was only an inch at 2am, so they allowed school. By 4am, it was 4 inches. By 5am, it was chaotic, no APOCALYPTIC! There were a total of 120 car accidents, half of them involving buses. And that’s not even the worst part. The amount of traffic, which was slower than usual, caused a really big traffic jam. It was basically a parking lot. We were stuck on the road for 2 hours and didn’t get to school until 8:15am, 1 hour and 15 minutes after school opened. My friends told me that the halls were empty at 7am. They sent me pictures of them being alone in class and the teachers weren’t even there. One of my friends, who was a Junior, went to Starbucks and a cop came in. He said to not even try going to school, just go straight and I was wow! You know it’s that bad when a police officer tells you not to go to school.
@HelloThereHola You’re not the only one… If I finish my homework and studying early, instead of going to sleep, I go on Reddit or start watching a show. And suddenly it’s 2 AM and I’m going to be drowsy and dazed in all my classes. Unfortunately, I won’t even be able to do that today, since I have to work on a poem for Creative Writing, a summer camp app, and Exploravision. Hopefully I’ll be able to get at least 2 hours of sleep in.
@tonyk16 You’re right! Honestly that’s reason why I honestly don’t care about the fact that I’m not get my driver’s license, or a car, for a while. One of my friends actually likes driving in the snow. They have FORD trucks that are really good for doing donuts in the snow.
Who is ready for a challenge? Mid terms are tomorrow, how about no sleep at all and go take two mid terms? Sounds awful, but I need to do this…
@HelloThereHola @mutedmornings Everynight since I was 13.
Well I’m probably going to hit the hay now that I have don’t have my Algebra II test tomorrow.
I’ll be in my bed at 1 am. How lovely I-)
I’m going to sleep guys. Have a great day at school! Cya in the evening
@ak2018 @HelloThereHola I’m from Michigan where we NEVER cancel school unless we have at least a foot and a half of snow. We have about 5 inches outside now but they plowed the streets overnight so the busses can get through. I remember that happening in Georgia we were like “how can they not handle two inches?!?” Lol have fun with the delays
@ak2018 I have built up quite the cold tolerance living here in Maine. Today, with the wind chill, it was in the negatives, and I didn’t bat an eye or wear a parka. We do have a lot of snow storms, which can be annoying.
I’m fortunate that when I have my license I will be driving a Subaru Outback. Those things are good in the snow.
@mutedmornings On Friday I thought it was a good idea to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show at 2 am.
@nyuhopeful44 The Superintendent in my school district doesn’t like cancelling school. Last year, the very bad year for snow in Maine, we only had THREE snow days. There were some days where we were going to school when no other school in the area was. The upperclassmen started a meme about it.
My school district hates having snow days. I remember, especially during middle school, that every other district in the county would have snow days or delays at the drop of a hat, while mine would be in class, complaining about how we were the only ones that had to go to school.
For my bio midterm today, I woke up at 3 AM, half-watched some Bozeman Biology videos, and fell back asleep. Then I studied a little when I finished my health final. I’m a little afraid to see my grade.
People freak out when it snows at all in Texas, but that’s because it starts icing. I guess people in the panhandle don’t care because it regularly snows up there, but where I live it was almost 80 degrees on Christmas. I remember skating around on the sidewalk in my socks once when I was really little. It’s pretty funny to watch Ford F-150s sliding around on the freeway. :))
@Hamlon Same. It was ridiculously hot this Christmas where I live. I was actually just in the northwest skiing and told some of my friends that and they couldn’t beleive it.
Do you guys reccommend taking chem or spanish 4 online? Also I just got a letter from University of Oregon which I’ve added as a safety
Great news guys! Theres a winter storm warning tomorrow for my county so I probably wont go to school! Woohoo!
Everyone vote on what I should take to fill my blowoff hour next year. Pick 2: Medical Career Foundations, Lifeguarding, Forensics, Honors Philosophy, or Pick 1: French 1, German 1, Chinese 1-- I won’t be able to continue with these languages senior year because of schedule conflicts
This will go with (I’ve posted like 85 potential junior year schedules but here is what I’m thinking)
AP English Literature
AP Calculus AB
AP Spanish (Spanish 4 online over the summer)
AP Chemistry (Chemistry online over the summer)
Medical Interventions
@nyuhopeful44 I would just stick with Spanish as your language, especially since you wouldn’t be able to continue with the new one senior year. I say Medical Career Foundations, since I’m assuming you are planning to go into the medical field, and Honors Philosophy, because that sounds interesting.
@LeopardFire okay thanks!
@nyuhopeful44 I feel like you said a while back you were aiming at med school and your schedule looks like it so I’m just assume that.
What exactly is Medical Career Foundations? Is it like super basic anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, etc? Or is it like how to become a doctor, different specialties of medicine, etc? If it’s the first I would say go with it. If it is the second, I would see how in depth the course actually goes and compared to how much you already know and then see if it’s worth it. Again making assumptions that you probably know the basics about how to become a doctor since you’re on here and people on here tend to be proactive about these types of things. If you don’t already know the basics about it and that is what that class is for, it sounds like a great way to learn about it.
Honors Philosophy sounds like a good pick. I feel like those critical thinking skills could really be helpful in a lot of situations, especially medical ethics. Having a good understanding of those will obviously help you out as a physican in tough situations. Also sometimes med school adcomms will ask you ethical questions in your interview to see how you respond. Plus you get the weighted GPA boost.
Again, what exactly does the lifegarding class consist of? Will you have the opportunity to voulenteer/work while getting credit or be certified (idk how that works or even if you have to be) to do it outside of class since work/volunteering can boost your app?
Like philosophy, I think forensics could foster critical thinking skills. Medical application could be forensic pathology or forensic psychiatry. Sounds like a fun class too.
Languages can be helpful in so many situations even if you just learn the basics. You never know if one day in the future you might have a patient that speaks German/French/ Chinese only and how helpful it might be to at least understand what language they are speaking. Even if you don’t continue it in senior year, you can pick it up back in college. Sometimes languages can get all confused in your head especially if you do Spanish and French since they are both Romance languages so be mindful of that so it doesn’t effect your AP Spanish grade.
Sorry I don’t have really like a vote for you to do, but there’s some food for though.
