High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 I’ve received a large letter from Whitman, and ~2 letters from Dartmouth. I signed up for other schools last weekend, so I haven’t received any mail from them yet. I have received a lot of mail and emails from the PSAT, though.
Enjoy your time out of school, even though there is a ton of snow in NOVA!

@wonderfulreads Mail makes me feel special, even if I hate the letters themselves.

I picked my courses today!
AP Language
AP US History
Calculus: Level 1
Honors Chemistry
Astronomy
Honors French IV
Band

@frazzledazzle I have received an email from the VT Engineering department. I was so excited, but I’m pretty sure it was a generic e-mail. Here is what it said:
Dear ak2018 (This is where my actual name would go),

We are happy to learn of your interest in Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering program. As you are likely aware, our college enrolls slightly more than 6,000 undergraduate students annually, and consistently ranks among the top 20 of the U.S. News and World Report list of America’s best colleges offering accredited undergraduate engineering programs. All freshmen are admitted to our General Engineering (GE) major, where a series of coursework must be completed prior to moving into one of the 14 degree-granting majors.

For additional information, be sure to visit http://www.eng.vt.edu/academics/curr_undergrad.php, paying special attention to the links on the left side of the page. If you have not already attended a College of Engineering information session on campus, we hope you’ll plan to visit campus and do so.

On our web site, you will also find a listing of the 14 degree programs, as well as a link to the Ware Lab undergraduate student design project facility. Check out some of the great design products our students are working on right now.

Interested in scholarships? You’ll find great information at http://www.eng.vt.edu/students/scholarships_incoming.

We thank you for your interest in Virginia Tech and the College of Engineering. We wish you much success in your college search and application process.

Sincerely,
Christi L. Boone, Director

Also @frazzledazzle Those are some pretty good courses. I’m also taking two AP’s next year as well, AP Chemistry and AP Economics (Both Micro and Macro).

Also, here are my list of colleges:

High Reaches: Virginia Tech, UVA
Low Reach: JMU
Match: VCU
Safety: GMU

I can’t really go anywhere outside Virginia, so this is all I’ve got.

@ak2018 The emails I’ve received are in that format, as well. I’m a little bit happy to get an email from University of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon today.
I updated mine a little:
Reaches: Caltech, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Swarthmore, Yale
Matches: BU, McGill, Whitman, New England Conservatory
Safety: UMaine
I am now considering MIT because you can major in Physics with a concentration in Astronomy, and the school seems really nice. Their website has some humor, and I like that.

So I just came back from the doctor’s office and on the ride I had a take about high school/college courses. He said that we should definitely be able to get enough money for me to take World History II this summer and to take HPE II next summer! This means I won’t need to get a job this summer. #:-S We were also talking about some volunteer opportunities at our local hospital. I wonder how I’m ever going to tell him that I’m stuck on being an engineer. Guess he still wants to change my mind. That’s what I get for going into the Biotech program at my school only because it was a better school than the one I was supposed to go to.

Also I had a question. I’m planning on taking my permit test soon. My friends have told me that the permit test is very easy. My dad thinks I should just get a book from the library and study at. I just finished the practice test and I actually did very well without even taking a class. My question is should I study for week or two and then take the test? Will this affect me on the driving portion I plan to take in May?

I have a question. Who here thinks I should ask guidance took sign me up for the PSAT 10 in February? I didn’t take the regular PSAT in October so I believe I should take at least one standardized test before it counts, right? I thought they would start announcing it or something but not a word was mentioned about it. Is anyone else going to be taking it?

@ak2018 I don’t know about your state, but for mine we actually have to take drivers education in order to take the permit test, unless we are 18 or older. The permit test is actually very straight forward and you could probably just take the test, and do just fine. If you get your permit now, drive every day, learn to parallel park, get confident behind the wheel, and you should be fine by May. The only reason I haven’t gone for my license is because I am not too confident behind the wheel still. I am going to drive through the winter and take it in the spring.

Ok so at this point my list consists of: Duke, Michigan, VT, UNC and PSU (In-state). Also I think the Naval Academy may interest me but that’s a big commitment I’m not really thinking about yet.

@tonyk16 Thanks for the info.

@ak2018 the situation in my state is the same idea that tonyk mentioned. I have my license tho and having been through everything I don’t think you need to study from a book.

@ak2018 what state are you in?

Virginia @reidd799

Like the others said don’t worry about the test, but make sure you get lots of time behind the wheel for the drivers portion and schedule it well in advance as the waitlist at the DMV can get ridiculous. Also, being able to get it at 15.5 is great! Wish I could have gotten it then

Question for anyone.

How do I get my reach school to send me mail?

Google: Request information (school name)
But if you are really interested in the school I’d say search them on your own the emails they send genuinely aren’t super helpful or anything

@tonyk16 @reidd799 May is when I turn 16 BTW.

Send them an email saying "notice me senpai :x "

No, don’t really do that.

lol @awesomepolyglot

@reidd799 I just did that for Harvard! Thanks
