High School Class of 2018

teacher’s assistant/ap enviro/honors physio?

all other classes are hard; need weighted gpa boost. any similar suggestions?

I have started SAT Math 1 prep because I am taking it in June. @maximumsize

@gormar099 Allen Cheng is one story. My relatives are a whole different story. I guess it depends on the person. My relatives were not world-class or very special but they still got in.

@HelloThereHola I suppose a big spike could improve your chances^^ However, it’s quite difficult as in high school and junior high years, you’re just finding yourself and trying different things. It’s quite hard to stick to just one.

@maximumsize I have only done one practice test so far (2000/2400 first try, no prep) but these are the books I will be buying (I’m only doing the general SAT and not the subject tests):

  • The blue book from College Board
  • Barron's SAT math workbook
  • Direct Hits Vocab

I’m aiming for a perfect score, for reference and will be doing lots of practice tests found online. For the essay, it’s quite difficult to “study” for it but I practice with random exam prompts found online and time myself.

Also, I’ve been curious; where are you guys from? I’m in Canada currently and am Chinese and 1/8 Russian (lmao). 8->

I am 1/2 Chinese and 1/2 Taiwanese. I’m also born and raised in California.

@averagebean are you planning on taking the new SAT?

@BucketsUCSC Adding to what @ak2018 said, take a look at this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/1182954-official-flvs-ap-thread-p1.html They say AP Comp Sci is easy and enjoyable.

should i do teacher’s assistant, ap enviro, or honors physio?

all my other classes are hard, and I’m aiming for a high gpa. ta is not factored into the weighing, but it still takes up 1 period as a class (if you do ta and all honor/aps, get a’s in all your other classes, you still get 5.0 gpa)

@averagebean I’m half Russian and half American?? random European immigrants mix… there’s probably Irish in there considering my dad’s red hair and green eyes. Idk. Lets just say I’m from Washington (the STATE)

@BucketsUCSC AP Computer Science is easy if you are good at logic and patterns. I think my class is really reallyyyy slowwww because it’s easy but that’s not always a bad thing, especially first period lol

Does anyone have a birthday on February 29th this year?

Narcos.

Im jamaican and 1/4 korean ayy

@neptuna Our AP exams are free-of-charge at our school. I also wished it was combined, but some people only take one or the other. At this point, my schedule is as follows:

Engineering Explorations I/Robotics
AP Psychology
AP Chemistry
U.S. and Virginia History
Functions/Trigonometry
Spanish 2
English 11

I’m pretty confident in it!

Also, the College Board, the ones who make the AP exams, have what’s called an AP waiver for students who have a hard time paying for AP tests. The waiver would decrease the cost of all of your exams by $30 and your school’s rebate fee by $7 - $9. So each exam would be about $63 - $65. Here’s the link (in order to receive the waiver, you have to be eligible based off of their criteria): http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/waivers/guidelines/ap?excmpid=MTG54-ED-1-appub

I’m polish and hungarian. I live about halfway between Ann Arbor and Detroit

@neptuna Also, your schedule looks good. Something I’d recommend is to ask the teachers of the class your picking and see how much work each class would have. I asked my soon-to-be teachers about how much homework there would be, to help pick my classes.

@Kelvin82 Yes, I am! However, I’m taking the PSAT available here in November and then taking the actual one next year. I heard the new SAT is wayyy easier.

OK, so the worst thing just happened at school. The end of the day had just rung and I was my way to talk to one of the AP teachers and when, out of nowhere, the fire alarm came on. As the alarm rang, I proceeded down the hallway, but the next part made me jump. I saw this kid set his backpack down and he gave me the weirdest smile as he was taking something black out of his backpack. I didn’t even hesitate, I was thinking “Oh hell no.” “I’m not getting shot up today.” So as I turned the corner, I bolted towards the stairs. I was on the second floor at the time. I honestly didn’t care if it was a joke or not, I just covered my ears, ran downstairs and out the door and I didn’t look back. I saw the same kid outside and he explained to me that it was just his binder. I was like #:-S . Someone had accidentally pulled the fire alarm and a firetruck showed up 10 minutes later. Still, it could have been an actual fire, or a bombing or something. I just got the heck out of there. It is Friday and I am trying to survive to at least the end of the week. It’s nice to know, however, that I can take care of myself in a crisis situation at school.

@ak2018 Wow, America is very frightening. However, I’d rather be there than here with our ever so pathetic economy. Our dollar value is virtually worthless now. These oil prices…sigh.

@ak2018 Is it terrible that I started laughing at “Oh hell no.” “I’m not getting shot up today.”? At least it was just a false alarm. I remember that when I was in elementary school, we were under lockdown for the whole day because someone decided to rob and shoot the manager of a local Chuck E Cheese. We didn’t even know what was going on until our parents picked us up that day.
