High School Class of 2018

@nyuhopeful44 I teach piano and coach a swim team LOL

Before a race, as in the day of the race. Like in the morning, chug water @averagebean

@apple1893 Pretty sure that’s common sense aha. You should stay hydrated every morning…

@apple1893 @averagebean I just came back from a 20 minute workout. During track practice on Thursday, our coach told us to run 20 minutes a day between Friday and Sunday. Since we had a “snow” day yesterday, I just went to my old middle school’s track and jogged for about 20 minutes. Today, I basically did the same thing, but changed it up a little bit. So I sprinted the first 100 meters, walked 50 meters, jogged another 50 meters, sprinted another 100 meters, then walked 100 meters. I did this for 20 minutes. At track tryouts, we did something similar. We sprinted the first 80 meters, walked 20 meters, sprinted 100 meters, jogged 145 meters, and sprinted the last 55 meters. He told us some wise words that the most important part of the race comes to down to the last 55 meters.

Well then again, you can also drink before a race. Food really does damage (cramps) before exercise @averagebean

I kinda finalized my four year plan if anyone has any suggestions

@nyuhopeful44 I think that looks great. Props to you for taking an AP history class freshman year - I think colleges will find that really impressive. My teacher had put me in Honors World History, but for some reason I chickened out ( ~:> ) and switched to standard. One thing: is it common at your school to take AP Lit before AP Lang? I’m just curious because I usually see people take AP Lang and then AP Lit.

@neptuna at my school we have the option, but AP Lit is harder than AP Lang because of the teachers. So I decided to save the easier class for senior year

@nyuhopeful44 That makes sense especially if you’re taking AP Calc BC and AP Physics.

Here’s my schedule as of right now:

  • = Weighted

11th Grade
Engineering Explorations I/Robotics

  • AP Economics
  • AP Chemistry
    U.S. and Virginia History
  • Functions/Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus)
    Spanish II
    English 11

12th Grade
Engineering Design and Development

  • Principles of Engineering or Extra AP Elective
    Physics I
    U.S. and Virginia Government
  • AP Calculus AB
  • AP Psychology
  • AP English Literature

I decided to not do AP English Language and do AP English Literature as I feel I would like the Literature class a lot more. My teachers explained that there would be a lot of writing involved in Lang, the main reason I didn’t want to take it, but not as much writing in Lit. Would it be a good idea to read some of the required in class texts over the summer? I feel like it would definitely lighten my load senior year. We would have to read 3 chapters per week outside of class.

@ak2018 I think for AP Lit there’s stuff you have to read during the summer, but if you can fit it all in then go for i
My suggestion would be to switch AP Psych, AP Physics, or Engineering for a 3rd year of Spanish

@ak2018 Do what you feel makes you comfortable. My only warning is that Lang is typically an 11th grade course that prepares you for taking Lit in 12th. Most people I’ve talked to say Lang is the easier course between the two. All the writing you would do in Lang will only help you in writing college apps, taking the ACT/SAT, and succeeding in college courses later on.

This is my current schedule plan~

Junior:
A Cappella Choir
AP Calc BC
AP Chemistry
AP Lang
AP USH
DC French 2 online (1 sem)
DC French 3 online (1 sem)
Engineering
Symphony Orchestra

12th grade is still a little wonky for me.

Senior:
A Cappella Choir
AP Bio (full year) or AP Gov/Econ (sem each)*
AP Lit
AP Physics C
AP Stats
DC French 4 online (1 sem)
Engineering
Symphony Orchestra

  • I really want to take AP Bio, but can't fit in. One of my options would be to take gov/econ during summer school and doing that would free up an entire elective for me. Since I would already have the basics of both classes down, I was thinking about self-studying their exams for some possible college credit. I really don't know if this would be a bad idea. I don't want to burn myself out. Any suggestions?

Also, is anyone going anywhere for Spring Break? I’m probably staying at home this whole week unless my dad decides to pull out one of his famous last-minute vacations. I’m not joking. Two years ago, the day before school started, we drove 5 hours to Sea World and made it back by 12 a.m. My mom was not happy. :))

@Hamlon I see your points, however, I feel like I would not be able to handle the writing if it was given out as homework. Especially combined with AP Chemistry. I’ll have to ask the AP Lang teachers about that. But that’s just me. It would definitely help with writing college essays.

We’re not really doing anything for Spring Break, but I might try to put in a college visit, if I can. For the most part, I’ll just be online most of the time. Our spring break doesn’t start until Saturday, March 19 and ends on Monday, March 28 (school would start on Tuesday).

Anyone else part of SNHC (Sunday Night Homework Club) again? I only have a million things, give or take, to do tonight.

@nyuhopeful44 That was one of the paths I was considering. I’m still thinking about it.

@neptuna Oh I definitely need the SNHC tonight. I have a ton of homework for history and Spanish.

Me too!! :)) Have to study for chem, math, all my math homework, Spanish hw and english hw.

I have two overdue essays for APUSH. Don’t ask how it happened. Actually, I’ll tell you: I couldn’t stop watching Kitchen Nightmares. I’ll do one of those tonight and then AP Econ homework.

@ak2018 Go ahead and talk to your Lang teachers. They’ll be able to accurately tell you how much work you can expect. My school started Spring Break really early this year and I don’t know why. I’m probably going to be really jealous of you guys come the 21st when my butt is stuck in school. #-o

@neptuna Not this time because I have a Samurai Jack and Gravity Falls binge with my name on it. That is exactly how normal people spend their Spring Breaks. :-B I guess my homework would be to read all of Jane Eyre for English and All Quiet on the Western Front for AP World, complete a huge extra credit packet for Bio. and finish a couple of online math assignments. I’m also starting to review for my AP exams in World and Comp Sci.

Does anyone have any opinions on my schedule?

@neptuna LOL Same thing with Teen Wolf.
