High School Class of 2018

Also, there was, apparently, supposed to be a fight on the first floor today at our school about the Black Expo. It was mainly the people who thought there should be “white expo” and didn’t like what was being done and said at the black expo. These were also the same people on Twitter hours later who were like “Where’s the White Expo?”, “God forbid we have a white expo”. :-L I’d be fine with a white expo, but why didn’t you think about doing one before the black expo? There was a Hispanic expo earlier this year and not that many people showed up. Then there was black expo and the controversy starts. They had three cops on the first floor today to make sure nothing happened. A lot of people were prepared to fight too. A lot of the black kids wore black in response to the whole thing. This is not to offend anyone, but it just seems sketchy to me.

@ak2018 LMAO a white expo? That is outrageous. Black expo is to raise awareness for black culture, the culture that white people in the past have IGNORED and deemed as low. Have white people ever had a systemic oppression against them? NO. Lmao and they demand a WHITE expo. They should just shut up and be happy with the privilege they have that we don’t. Those kids need to learn a thing or two.

Although, I think there should be “minority expo” where all minorities are represented; black, hispanic, Asian, etc. I think it’d be really cool.

Like damn Daniel, back at it again with the white privilege smh.

OMG :)) @averagebean Someone literally said “Damn Daniel. Back at it again with the white privileges” on the bus this morning. I was literally dying of laughter. :))

But honestly, I’m starting to feel like the whole Black Expo thing is starting to get out of hand and at school especially on Twitter. For ever every two tweets I read saying good things about it, there was a hateful tweet saying how the whole thing was an “anti-cop fest”. It really wasn’t either. The only thing that really made people so mad was the poetry slam. Particularly this one poem this one guy wrote that about black stereotypes and police brutality, which was what most people had a problem with. The guy’s poem was reviewed and revised by the administrators and certain parts had to be taken out (they told him to take out the last part of it about police brutality) as it would apparently cause " distress among a certain group of people "! :-L I saw the last part of the poem on Twitter and all I can say is that if he said it, there would’ve been a riot right then and there and hands would’ve be “thrown” (people were going to get punched). I kind of hope things go back to the way they were. One kid actually made a joke about the whole thing on Twitter comparing it to a Black expo marker and asking why people were arguing about it and two other white kids called him out about it. Ironically, the guy that made the joke, sat next to me in Chemistry class on the first day. I decided I wanted to be friendly, but it didn’t work out. Sitting next to him felt like a distraction and I eventually switched seats. I felt he just didn’t like me, and it honestly kind of bothered me. I kind of like how he’s getting all this hate for that tweet, though. Whenever I pass him in the hallways, I try not to look at him. I could honestly go the rest of my life without seeing him ever again, but that’s just me. I just feel like the whole thing was good for some, but not for all. Especially the school. Today felt so different. It seemed as if the divide between the white and black people at my school became larger. This whole debacle has ruined friendships and reputations. Heck, even some of the black people who went to the expo felt uncomfortable and that their white friends would stop being friends with them if they went. This whole expo has single-handedly sparked up the racial tension that has lurked behind the shadows at our school for over 40 years. I mean, I honestly hoping this all blows over by Monday and everything goes back to normal. I feel like this was good as people are finally acknowledging the racial tension at our school, but bad because the racial tension is taking over.

And just to clarify, I do not hate white people or that of any race. I actually came to the school I attend by choice to experience a race not like my own. I actually love my school, for the most part. It’s just when controversy like this is started, I hate it. And actually a lot of people who weren’t black actually liked the expo. They wanted to experience black culture.

@NDreams I think your schedule is completely fine. I plan on taking all the APs you are. I’m wary of Chem and USH because of the high workload too, but I think they will be manageable.

@ak2018 I feel so bad that you have to deal with a school like that. My school doesn’t really have that problem because it’s too diverse. I’ve never really felt any racial tensions between people and even then most of the time it is done jokingly. A lot of my teachers comment on this and say that we are luckier than they were. My bio teacher would sit in class and there would be one or two black people, four Hispanic people, and the rest white/asian. He never really felt comfortable at his high school and almost envies the environment we get to learn in. If there is a division it would be between people who live in areas that are lower middle class and those who are worse off. I hate that you have to go through stupid things like this at school. I always wonder what the future entails for me just because of the university I choose to go to. At least you don’t plan on going to that school with a White Student Union and night patrols that specifically target African-Americans who they think want to cause trouble. They do this to protect “their” women from criminals or thugs. :expressionless: :-w

Now that I’m thinking about this, have you seen the latest Trump Rally? It’s all over the news and they had to postpone the whole thing because it went into massive chaos between the protesters and Trump’s minions. I swear the whole thing looked like the 1968 Democratic Riots and it’s really scary to think that whole fiasco could happen this year from BOTH sides instead of one. We have a controversial establishment candidate on one side and a neo-Nazi on the other. This will not end well. Not. At. All. Why didn’t we listen to George Washington?! Political parties are messing up our democracy. X_X

@averagebean PREACH!

@ak2018, I think having a black expo isn’t really a great idea, because it seperates races and encourages racial tension, by isolating ethnic groups even though this isn’t what the black kids at your schools intended to do. Our school has almost no racial tension, i’m not sure if this may offend some people but a big reason why I think black kids and white kids and asian kids get along is because black kids are ok with kids of other races saying the N word around them(I know it sounds really stupid in theory) but it actually works, and I’ve never heard of a case of racial prejudice at my school.

Well anyway, for a little positivity, I gotta few questions for everyone. Now that the year is starting to wind down, I thought it might be good to play a game of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Where everyone would list the best thing that happened this year, something bad, and something terrible.

Good: I made a bunch of new friends, and this was my first year at a new school.

Bad: My best friend and I are no longer friends anymore.

Ugly: My second quarter!

I don’t understand rioting… What a great way to promote the man on the inside, Trump isn’t the end of the world and literally satan, when people get to the point of violence it is going too far

Good: I made region orchestra and got finalist status for this Summer program I’ve wanted to go to for a long time.
Bad: I’ve been really unorganized this year and that sometimes brings my grades down.
Ugly: Me Sunday night trying to finish all the work I was assigned over Spring Break. :((
@ak2018

@NDreams Your schedule looks really great! I’m also taking AP Chemistry and AP Lang so I’m in the same boat. I’m also taking Pre-Calculus, but not Honors. There will be a lot of studying and homework, but hopefully I’ll get used to it.

@NDreams And hopefully, you will as well.

Good: I’ve remained number 1 so far in class rank, and I am going to Washington D.C. this summer!
Bad: I haven’t been that involved in the community, and it makes me feel bad.
Ugly: There actually aren’t any! What a good year.

Next year will be even better!

Good: I’ve managed to get As in all of my classes so far. I got accepted to OSU for dual enrollment. I haven’t died.

Bad: I’ve barely done anything outside of school, just participation in Debate Club and volunteering. Also, I got a terrible, terrible score on a math contest which isn’t good considering I want to major in math.

Ugly: Every weekend I decide that watching 10 episodes of Dr. Phil is more important than doing homework.

I just found out that our school will be having a spring pep rally. I’ve DMed the guy who runs the the Twitter account for the class of 2018 at our school and I’ve agreed to help with the class wall/mural. I’m definitely the opposite of artistic, so I’ll just probably help a little bit.

Good: I made a new group of friends too! And I have had all A so far- # 11 in my class (so close…)

Bad: My bestie and I aren’t besties anymore…and I need more volunteering hours

Ugly: Currently addicted to Pretty Little Liars and only on season 2 and I have to take PE over the summer because of my impacted schedual
:((

Has anyone taken ACT or SAT yet?

@MKSherry I took the ACT in 7th grade lol, but that’s probably not what you meant. I do plan on taking one or the other either this school year or Fall of Junior year.

@MKSherry nope, I took the Bio SAT in December though.

@Lbelle43 how’d you study and what’d you get? I’m planning on taking it in may.
