@averagebean I want to learn how to manage my time. My procrastination and lack of schedule/routine will be the death of me if I don’t overcome it by junior year.
@HelloThereHola I would love if my classmate did something like that. I think everyone would appreciate it, not find it nerdy.
Is anyone planning on treating themselves after this school year is over? I think we all deserve it. We’ve all worked hard. I have $150 saved up that was originally going to pay for AP exams, but as you know I just found out I don’t actually need to pay for them. I’m gonna go out to my favorite thai restaurant and get a huge plate of noodles with a side of spring rolls, get a bunch of useless items from Amazon that I don’t actually need, buy new clothes, etc. After the stress of this year, I’m definitely going to appreciate this summer.
@neptuna I’m extremely jealous that you do not have to pay for the AP tests. I’m definitely going to broke before even starting college just because of AP exams. Also extremely jealous that your state got rid of the PARCC. It’s literally a waste of an entire month so that each student can test for something like 3 school days worth of time??? Ridiculous honestly.
Unfortunately, yes @averagebean We’re also the nation that proposed and currently implements the Common Core program in some states. The program believes in education through testing, which is why many hate the program in it of itself. I, too, hate the program as it basically promotes teaching to a test, which is currently what many people believe the U.S. education system is doing to the students of America. Creating a generation of test takers, rather than a generation of learning embracers. I kind of feel like school, for many people, has just become about passing the next test or passing the class, basically about doing enough to PASS! I just feel like has started to become a competition of who can work the hardest for good grades, rather than who can gain the most knowledge.
@mamaba I actually just did some research about PARCC after guys started talking about it and you guys are correct. Their test seems completely unnecessary. Just what the nation needed, another testing organization.
@premednyy Hope you pass the test. I won’t be taking mine July. I’m actually kind of mad. When I was 8, I thought I would have my license by the time I was 16. I’m planning to get my license a couple months after my 16th birthday in May. I plan to get my permit in June, through HPE II, and my license by the end of the summer in August. I don’t even know why I’m going through all of this trouble if I won’t be a car until I’m 18.
Oh and here are my summer plans:
PE in Summer School
Volunteering at the Library
Going on College Visits
Going to Kings Dominion
Studying for/Taking the Permit Test in August
Doing summer assignments for AP Chemistry and AP English Language
Sleeping and Much, Much More
For everyone, when are you guys getting your first car?
@averagebean That is a very rigorous schedule. I definitely agree with @neptuna about the stress that could put on a person. I was actually supposed to go to an IB school, but decided to go to another school that has only AP classes. I went to a IBMYP school and kind of hated it. I took three years of Italian. I feel like I would love to take Theory of Knowledge though. I’m really in to Philosophy.
That reminds me: Have any of you ever been in your school’s gifted program?
By the way nice saying about IB. I wish they made one for AP classes.
@apple1893 Thanks. I also hope they continue to go in this direction. Also, the year has definitely gone by so fast.
For now, we’re only choosing which AP classes to take, two years from now, we’ll be choosing which college to go to. That’s just me putting it in perspective. I found this thread in December and don’t know how I lived before it.
Hey @Abbiegalie . I guess I’ll give you the same introduction I gave @neptuna . :))
Hello and welcome to CC’s official High School Class of 2018 Thread. Here you can interact with other users who have the same high level of interest about school as you. Here, we talk about almost everything associated with school and our daily lives as well. During this time of the year, as I’ve seen so far, we’ve been talking about course selections for next year as well getting ready for junior year. We’ve also talked about school sports and clubs, current grades, internships, summer programs, scholarships, and so much more. Anything you can think of pertaining to school, specifically sophomore year centered, we’ve probably talked about it. This thread, as I’ve seen throughout the past three months, can also be used to talk about personal issues as well. The students on here a very supportive bunch and have helped me figure out problems as well as help me through some of the most stressful times during this year. So, this thread can also be used as a way to de-stress and relax. If you have any questions about anything pertaining to this thread, just reply. Hopefully, you’ll stay for the long haul all the way until graduation. I’ve been on this thread for 3 months now and I’ve got to say, it can be pretty addicting. Hope you have a nice time on this thread. Virtual Handshake
Lol all I did was copy and paste! Anyways welcome! Sorry I’m a little late on the welcome wagon.
@averagebean Other than trying to keep my life together, I guess trying to maintain a good GPA, do well in track, and end this year on a good note.
Also, finals are in one month. :(( Even worse, I just found out that our Chemistry exam is on my birthday! :(( I’ll be testing the day away. The only reason I liked going to school on my birthday was to hear all the people say happy birthday to me. :)) Lol, I might as well get used to this. During high school, my birthday will always be near, or during, finals and during college, my birthday will always be towards the end of finals.
On the bright side, I haven’t had a school-related emotional breakdown since January. Yay me. However, I almost did after that Chem test on Friday.
@ak2018 I already have my first car as you can drive at 14 here in my province. I am a proud driver of a 2015 Lexus RX350. We first have to get our learners license and then GDP drivers one year after holding our learners. After that, you can go for your highway road test for your non-GDP drivers license. You can start at age 14, most drivers finish their non-GDP at around age 17-18 ish.
IB problems: Schedule of Hell. Stick with AP, folks. You’ll have more of a social life. I promise. I can’t even make time for clubs due to my schedule. That means quitting competitive club track next year :’( as well as my job
No offense to any of y’all Americans but the SAT and ACT tests you have to take seems hella stressful. What even is SAT US history. Why would you want a standardized test on that? That’s so dumb. And then there’s a math AND science ACT??? Like what why. Although, I would have to take the SAT since I’m applying to the US )):::
@ak2018 In the AP Gov class at my school, the teacher only lectures and people write down what he says. There are no other methods of teaching. This usually leads to very disorganized notes that would require revision to put everything in better order and to clarify certain things. Maybe starting a website for the class and posting excellent notes and other resources would help everyone succeed. My friends and I had this idea at least. Of course they want me to do it too since theyre lazy :))
So next year if anyone has AP Gov or APUSH, you could use them too! If you wanted. I’m also taking AP calculus but I wouldn’t do one for that class.
So I start school again next Tuesday (15 day Spring Break), and my current goal is to have a really high GPA!!! I can’t stress enough of how jealous I am of CC users who’s GPA’s are ridiculously high. Also, I’m taking the SAT Math 1 test in June, so I hope that goes well!!! I’ve been studying since early March and I want a 700+ sooooooo bad!
Dang @averagebean ! I just googled your car and it looks really nice. A lot nicer than I expect my first car to look. It’ll probably be a $3,000 used car that was made before I was born. :)) How much did it cost? My dream car, I would have to say, would either be a 2013 Toyota Corolla LE, which costs about $18K, or a 2013 Ford Focus SE Sedan, which costs about $19K. In the color blue, my favorite color, of course.
IB must really suck. I’ve heard from my friends that go to the IB school I was supposed to go to and they said that it was a lot tougher than it was in middle school. The IBMYP was a joke compared to the IBDP and it didn’t prepare them for the IBDP. They mainly just do worksheet after worksheet for homework and a lot of essay writing and reflection. Also, I would study really hard for the SAT. IB kids tend to not do as well as AP kids on the SAT. The main reason: The College Board, the supposed “non-profit organization”, not only creates AP tests, but also creates the SAT tests as well. So it’s slightly biased towards kids who are in AP classes, rather than those in IB. I’m pretty sure, unless you’re applying to a school that requires the SAT, that you can just take the ACT. The ACT appeals more to IB kids as well as those more into STEM and kids around the world. It actually tests what you learned in school. The SAT wants you to use what you learned in school and go deeper with it, however, the College Board is now seeing that that kind of testing isn’t really helping the students. It’s one of the reasons why they changed the test, so it would actually align with what we learned in school like the ACT does. The ACT is more common on the west coast and the SAT on the east coast. The SAT wants to also attract more west coast students.
Also, tests like the SAT U.S. History test are called SAT II subject tests. They are for people who have a specific interest in certain subjects like Chemistry or Math. I’m on taking the SAT Chemistry and Math Level 2 tests next year. They look really good for colleges as it shows interest in certain subjects. If I were you, I’d take the SAT Math Level 2, SAT Chemistry, and maybe SAT French Language test.
