High School Class of 2018

@Hamlon I get paid $7.40 (min wage is 8.50) but I don’t make tips

A part of the TNHC since I didn’t have school the past two days…

I applied for McDonalds (ugh) literally two hours ago and just went for an interview. I’m SOOOOOOOOO done. She looked at my birth year and automatically assumed I was 16 (as if there aren’t 8 months left in the year), so I made my dad drive all the way there just to get told I can’t be hired because I’m 15. I’m extra salty because she didn’t even apologize or thank me for my time. In fact, I’m the one who thanked her for her time and said to have a nice day. At least this gave me a confidence boost lol

I’m studying for AP Euro but I’m pretty behind… at the same time I’m way too lazy to study for it :frowning: I just don’t feel as interested in the later chapters. I used to be super into the early chapters.

@neptuna I’m sorry that really sucks. You’re too good for McDonalds anyways :smiley:

@nyuhopeful44 Haha, thanks! :slight_smile:

We’re learning probability and statistics in Algebra 2 right now and it’s boring me half to death. Makes me wonder if I should be taking AP Stats next year…

@gormar099 I’m currently in a class as the only sophomore. In that class, besides me, there’s one junior and the rest are seniors. You’ll usually get over the whole “they’re a year older than me” thing really fast. I’d say do AP Stats if you’re interested, but AP Euro is usually seen as more rigorous.

@BucketsUCSC I’m honestly going to care more about my grades in AP classes, rather than my AP test score. As long as I get a 3 or 4 on each of my AP tests, I’ll get credit. Like UCs, Virginia Tech doesn’t care about AP test scores, as long as you get a good grade in the class. I only really need credit (for a mechanical engineering from VT) for AP Lang or Lit, AP Calculus AB, and AP Chemistry. For AP Psychology and AP Economics, I could get an A in both classes and bomb the AP test and it wouldn’t matter. Senioritis would’ve gotten to me by then anyways!
. :))

@neptuna That really sucks! I feel like I would never be able to do online schooling. It’d give me too much of a chance to procrastinate. I have to take an online class next summer (summer 2017) and I was wondering how online school is like, and how to keep yourself from procrastinating. For the online class, I’ll be taking World History 2 and I’ll have to learn 4 - 6 hours a day, five days a week, for six weeks in the summer. I don’t know how I’ll be able to do that, as history is not my strong suit.

@Hamlon I’m loving your new profile pic. Amandla Stenberg for the win! :smiley: I actually found out about her through Rowan Blanchard. I love her work on Girl Meets World.

@reidd799 @LeopardFire @averagebean @nyuhopeful44 After today’s primaries, I have to terms with the sad reality that … Trump might actually be the only presidential candidate, other than Bernie Sanders, that I could get behind. I literally had to pinch myself twice to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. :frowning: I don’t know why, but I’m getting these really bad vibes from Hilary. It seems as if she’ll do anything to win. I agree with some, but not all of Bernie’s views.

Did you guys hear that Trump said that transgender people “can choose to go to whatever bathroom they want”? I’m honestly starting feel like under that big, conservative exterior, he’s really a really confused liberal. I remember I had this dream/nightmare, whatever way you look at it, once where Trump won the election, and then seconds later, claimed to be a democrat all along. :))

Edit: Scratch that. Trump changed his opinion one day after getting a lot of backlash for his opinion. Now he’s saying, “let it stay the way it is”. Just when I thought I was considering to start listening to him more. :-q

@neptuna Keep trying. Arby’s and McDonald’s aren’t even really good restaurants (I’m just saying that to make you feel better, Arby’s is great :)) . I wish I could get a job, but I definitely wouldn’t have enough time. I’ll be volunteering at my local library, if that counts for anything. Sometimes, it really does suck to be 15 while all of your friends are 16. They’re all getting their driver’s license and you haven’t even gotten your permit. I’m also currently learning about probability and statistics in Algebra II. Our test is today.

For the last 3 days, my school has had students doing pre-registering for the AP exams.

On a good note, I took a Psych practice test and got a 5
On a bad note, I took a Euro practice test and got a 2…

Anyone here wanna go to Cornell, Dartmouth or brown? Those are my top choices right now; and I wanna see if anyone shares that with me!

@waterfall27 Brown and Dartmouth are two of my reaches!

@waterfall27 I’ve looked into schools like Pomona College and Brown. I don’t really know what I want out of a school, but from what I’ve read about the two, I would be fine. They also encourage you to learn outside your major/concentration (Brown only has one or two required classes, right?) and that’s awesome for me because I have some very diverse interests that I want to continue pursuing through college. This kid I know got into Cornell and things like that don’t really happen at my school. He’s like a semi-mentor to me and I felt really proud and hopeful about the things I’ll be able to do regardless of the high school I’m at. I’m so happy for him because of how genuine and generous he is. He taught me so many things I didn’t know about the college application process that he had to figure out himself. We come from similar backgrounds(low-income/child of African immigrants), so I’m really thankful for the time he put in to help me.

@nyuhopeful44 awesome!

@Hamlon Thats super cool! I really want to go to Cornell because I live in Ithaca (where it is located) and it has just always been my dream, since I live 3 minutes away!

I’ve just been feeling down in the dumps lately because I just feel that I wont be able to get into Cornell or any other college that I really want to get into :frowning:
Plus, my dad works at another local college where if I attend, I get to go full ride; and I don’t want to let him down because that has been one of the benefits he’s been working towards for 20+ years… It just really isn’t the type of school I see myself at. AHhhhh
