High School Class of 2018

So, I’d thought of this really great idea called school/teacher confessions. Since the school year is winding down for most of us, and has already ended for some of us, I’d thought it be a good idea to vent about/praise the teachers we had this year, what we learned about our schools, what we’ve accomplished sophomore year that we didn’t junior year, and our goals for the future. Yes, I know this sounds like a survey, but bear with me here! :))

Teacher Confessions

My Computer Math Teacher: I loved your class. It taught me a great deal about programming that I would’ve otherwised overlooked. Thanks to you, I now have a much better appreciation and interest for programming than I did before. So much interest that I’ve now decided to program in my free time, for fun! You were definitely a fun teacher, made really good jokes, and I especially liked that one time you juggled in class.

Rate: 8/10

My English Teacher: You are literally the best English teacher I’ve EVER had. This coming from the guy who only had one good English teacher in the 7th grade and had the same crappy, snarky one in both 6th and 8th grade. You’ve further sparked my already peeked interest into philosophy and our world. Throughout this year, you’ve made me question reality, theism, our government, ethics, humanity, human logic and reasoning, and most importantly, taught the meaning of allegorical representation. I now look through the world with a much more different lenses than I had 10 months ago. I may annoy you sometimes, almost as much as you’ve annoyed me (whenever you literally walk all the way to my desk just to tell me to put my phone away and stand over and stare at me until it’s in my backpack, while making a really big fuss about it and while the whole class just rolls their eyes :-L (LOL, let me live! :)) ), but you’ve got to admit that when it came down to our class discussions, I was definitely one of the most engaged. I’ve got to say that I was very lucky to have you this year. If I decide to take AP English Literature senior year, it’d be so I can have you as a teacher again. Seriously man, you deserve an award.

Rate: 9.99/10 (You're almost perfect! :)) )

My World History Teacher: You are literally one of the nicest, most laid back, and seemingly slightly liberal, conservative teachers I’ve ever met, which have been few. Although I struggled in your class, partially due to a lack of interest in World History in general, I’ve felt I learned quite a lot of things I didn’t know about my world.

Rate: 8/10

Temporary World History Student Teacher: I really loved the few months you spent with our class and how you were able to connect with the students. You’ll be a great teacher some day.

Rate: 8.5/10

My Spanish I Teacher: You are seriously so great, even though our class both ruins/makes your day. You are such a great mom, BTW. Your son’s gonna grow up just fine with you around. Oh, and thanks for teaching me a bunch about Spanish. I thought switching from Italian would be hard, but Spanish just seems really easy for me. I wouldn’t mind getting you next year for clase de espanol dos. LOL, I hope that’s right.

Rate: 9.5/10

My Chemistry Teacher (I’m going to be brutally honest with this one :expressionless: ): In all honesty, I feel you’re a good Chemistry teacher for some people, but I feel I would’ve benifited from being in one of the other Chemistry classes. No offense, I just got the worst vibe from you. Like one minute you seem so nice, and the next you seem really annoyed and a little ticked off. I understand that it’s probably from all of the students you have, and maybe your kids, but I just felt weireded out by it. I’ve sometimes been hesitant to ask questions because some of them come out really dumb-sounding. I just feel that our personalities really didn’t fit. Although, I am very grateful for those times you allowed me to retake those tests.

Rate: 6/10

My Algebra II Teacher: I apoligize for all the times I napped and/or did not do the ungraded homework for our class. I just really hate math homework, AKA the reason why I had a C in Algebra 1! :)) In all honesty, I kind of hated having the class at the end of the day. Especially whenever we were doing new stuff, I was so tired. I’d only nap for about 5 minutes, and I missed a quick lesson, but still somehow did well. The class felt really easy, and I’m sorry I treated it like a joke. I should try to be enthusiastic about math, especially as an aspiring engineer.

Rate 8/10

My HPE I Teacher: You’re a pretty fun guy, even though some of the people in our class are rude as hell. :)) I like how you actually tried to interact and start a conversation with me sometimes, like asking me about my day. It really meant a lot.

On one of the courses I included in my previous post, it put asterisks on the link. Lol, i didn’t curse I swear. The word that is supposed to go there is, “coursera”

@ak2018 Good idea!

Here’s my Teacher Confessions from an online schooler’s perspective:

My AP Economics Teacher: You were by far the nicest, most helpful teacher out of all the teachers I had this year. You never made me feel like I was inconveniencing you whenever I went to ask you for help. For once I didn’t feel like I had to rely on outside resources instead of the teacher to figure out an assignment. It’s dumb, but seeing variants of “Great work!” commented on my assignments never got old. Too bad I probably won’t ever have you as a teacher again because I felt really comfortable with you.

Rate: 9.5/10 (only because I have an even better teacher. )

My AP U.S. History Teacher: You were always nice and willing to help, but I feel like you were too passive for an AP teacher. I turned in essays that I full well knew didn’t fully follow the rubric and still got 100%. Now, for any other class I wouldn’t mind that, but since I was preparing for the AP exam I feel like you should’ve been harsher. I had to learn how to write AP essays myself because you didn’t ever include that advice in your feedback. Also, I understand that this was a very small class, but having class one day a week for 30 minutes and cancelling half of the time was really not appropriate. Class once a week would’ve been fine if it was longer and actually reviewed what we read that week, but instead we just went either entirely off topic or looked at an FRQ/document. We went over the 2016 election once…bro, this isn’t AP Gov. Overall, I just had to teach myself. Thank you for allowing me to make corrections to my work and being understanding when I got behind, though! Although your passiveness was a bad thing in some ways, it also relieved some stress.

Rate: 6.5/10

My German I Teacher: Since you never had class, I never really got to know you. It’s too bad because I would’ve liked to learn more about your home country, Russia. When I did talk with you whenever I needed help, I was always comforted by how casual and friendly you were with me. I think if you started having class you would be liked by all of your students. I didn’t like that you dropped so many assignments, though. They weren’t exactly time consuming or difficult. I feel like you just didn’t want to grade our work, and because of that, I didn’t get that much out of the class. I know you teach in a public school in addition to online, but we shouldn’t be put second. You should treat all of your classes equally and realize that we’re also trying to get a quality education. Hopefully you’ll change your methods next year.

Rate: 5/10

My Algebra 2 Teacher: Your classes were my absolute favorite although they were a bit disorganized. I felt that they were more intimate than my others. I’m not sure why you played Bring Me to Life almost every morning, but it always made me laugh. I think you played a metal version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer once. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse once the school changed the format of the math classes where a different teacher lectured every day and the regular and honors kids were taught in the same class. It annoyed me so much that I just stopped going completely, and for some reason after things changed you’ve been grading my work like once a month. That also gives me the vibe that you’re too busy, making it uncomfortable for me to ask you any questions. I wish things could go back to how they were last semester!

Rate for 1st Semester: 8/10; rate for 2nd Semester: 5/10.

My Chemistry Teacher: You’re sooo good at explaining things, I love that you allow test retakes, and you’ve kept the class rigorous like it’s supposed to be. The thing is, I hate chemistry which makes me low key hate you. Also, you take forever to open emails. Going to your class on Tuesday is practically the only way I can ask a question and not have to wait a week or more for a reply. Still, I’m gonna give you a decent rating because my hatred for chemistry isn’t fair towards you. You’re very nice.

Rate: 7/10

My English Teacher: The only time I had a good English teacher was during Freshman year, so my review of you is probably biased. To be quite honest, I forgot that you and your class existed half of the time. I never went to your class and barely ever contacted you. You watered down the course by dropping so many assignments and being such a lenient grader, so it wasn’t often that I found myself needing any help. I think I learned more about literature through fanfiction than I did your class. Also, your personality just gave off a weird vibe, and I’m pretty sure you were drunk when I emailed you at the beginning of the year introducing myself and you replied with 10 typos. And I just realized you never responded to the email I sent you two months ago. Wow. I can’t wait for AP English because I’ll actually feel like I have an English class. :))

My Geometry Teacher: YAAAAAAASS!!! You were such an amazing teacher! Your lecturing skills were great and I felt like you truly cared about me. Thank you for checking in every month and taking time to listen to what my goals are. I really appreciate that you sent me that message last week saying that even though I won’t have you as a teacher next year, I can still contact you for help with something or just to talk. I’ve wanted a mentor for so long but I’ve always been hesitant to actually ask anyone, so I feel like you’ve opened that door for me. I’m excited to tell you all about my accomplishments in the world of mathematics next semester. I feel like I relate to you a lot because we both like math and you’ve taught it at the higher level like I want to.

@snowfairy137 I’m not really a big fan of SpringBoard. We used it at the beginning of the year, stopped using it for months, and have just come back to it last week. It’s kind of annoying, but at least it’s not hard

Dear AP Photography teacher,
Thank’s for not punishing me for coming in late every. single. day, and not always turning in assignments on time. Sorry about that… I wasn’t too pleased when I had to work for an A but now I’m happy that you we’re a harsh grader, because it forced me to grow and improve as a photographer. And, really, I thought you knew that everyone thought you had a bias towards black and white photos. I wouldn’t have told you otherwise.

Dear AP Computer Science teacher,
You’re a pretty cool guy. I thought your class was paced super slow but I know you had to teach for the entire class, not just for me. I wish you had given us the option of a little more AP review, but I think I got a 5 on the test anyway. Also, your organization was a little inconsistent. Thanks for not getting mad at me specifically when I was on my phone or doing homework in your class though.

Rate: 7/10

Dear AP Calc BC teacher,
Thanks so much for making math class engaging again. You are the best math teacher ever and are also an amazing person. Thanks for organizing all those silly but fun Calculus bonding activities like “calc night” and “calculus pizza party.” Thanks for preparing us so well for the AP test and being fair but honest with your grading. Thanks for being spontaneous and doing things with us like going on random “nature walks.” Thanks for allowing me to be myself in your class.
PS. It’s pretty cool that my little sister and your daughter are in the same class.

Dear Spanish teacher,
Honestly, you were a good teacher, but I found your class pretty boring compared to my teacher last year. It’s pretty hard to outdo her though, she is one crazy energetic person. You weren’t bad, but I did count down the minutes till your class was over.

Rate: 6.5/10

Dear Orchestra teacher,
I feel bad for you. When we discovered that our old orchestra teacher had left at the beginning of the year we all immediately didn’t like you. However, I don’t think you taught us as effectively as you could have. You focused on the wrong spots in our music and on the wrong things first. I also was super annoyed that you never let the first and second violins have separate sectionals. What’s the point otherwise? We have different parts. Also, its super annoying how even the band teacher knows more about the violin than you. Sure, he actually played the violin growing up, but you could at least try to learn the fingerings and the basics. Maybe you could actually give us advice then. I’m sorry so many people are quitting.

Dear Bio teacher,
You are a very good teacher. I appreciate your efficiency with lecturing, quizzes, tests, everything. I also appreciate how you didn’t assign very much homework. However, I just don’t like bio. I’m sorry.

Rate: 8/10

Dear Engineering teacher,
You’re a great robotics coach and although you didn’t do much teaching because this was a self paced class, you were knowledgeable on the subject and could help us out. I’m sorry we talk so much.

Dear Online English teacher (semester 1),
Thanks for exempting some of the useless busy work for me and being understanding. I never knew how great you were till you were gone.

Rate: 7/10

Dear Online English teacher (semester 2),
You’re annoying, naggy and overbearing. I’ll get to the work when I get to it. That’s why its an online class. Please stop calling my mother every. single. day. You’re stressing her out. I have a 4.0 and I intend to keep it, I promise I wont fail your class.

Rate: 2/10

Dear Online PE teacher,
We’ve had a very impersonal relationship but good job doing your job I guess.

@LosingCrayon this online class is making me go through the entire curriculum and I’m ready to pull my hair out lol.

i wish i had a passive AP teacher I hate having to kill myself to get an A in AP world since i dont care about the AP exam

@snowfairy137 I’d hate having an English teacher who called my parents every day. If I were your mother, I would have blocked his number. :)) He can e-mail me everyday until the class is over if he wants.

I’m just gonna do teacher confessions for the ones that I have a strong opinion about haha

Dear French Teacher,
Honestly I don’t know anyone that respects you as a teacher because you try WAY too hard to be our friends rather an our teacher. You’re way too passive in discipline and I don’t think I’ve actually learned anything in that class other than to hate it. (I’m not even being harsh, you guys should meet her)

Rate: 2/10

Dear Math Teacher,
You’re a really great teacher and I know you want us to succeed, but you go really fast at times to the point of me being lost for the rest of class. Also your class makes me feel hella anxious because you roast us way too much when we ask questions, which makes me not want to ask questions.

Rate: 7.75/10

Dear Chem Teacher,
Okay, I learned things with you but at the same time you made us focus way too much on using ‘academic language’ and not using the word ‘it’, which was really distracting. Tone it down.

Rate: 6/10

Dear AP Gov Teacher,
YOU SAVED ME! After a terrible first AP, you literally made my view of APs so much better (assuming I did well on the AP test). That, and you’re actually so funny without even trying too hard and you don’t talk to students in a condescending way but students also respect you at the same time. You should teach my french teacher your ways.

Rate: 10/10

Dear Orchestra Teacher,
You give off this weird vibe like you hate me or something, and I don’t know what to say about you. You bring your emotions into teaching way too often and it always ends up with a person or a section getting offended but not being able to say anything. Honestly as an orchestra teacher, you should at least act like you have hope for every student rather than only idolizing the ones that you personally like.

Lol I was looking up some fiery, dank memes on Twitter about the PSAT that was taken in 2016 . I’m dying! :))

I just teared up because I correctly named an organic compound on the first try. This is what school is doing to me.

Anyone joining the S.N.H.C. tonight?

@ak2018 YUP. I have to finish my game for computer science and make an entire presentation over the entire process I took to get it working. Frantically searches up Java video tutorials.

I’d love doing teacher confessions because I have very strong negative/positive feelings about most of my teachers lol
Chemistry: I love that you put 100% of your time and effort into teaching us chemistry, and I also love that you sold donuts and bagels every day. Despite this, you are incredibly rude to all but your favorite students, and you constantly told everyone except said favorites that they were going to fail the AP, which made me unable to like you. Also your lectures and assignments weren’t as helpful as you made them out to be and they sometimes wasted a lot of my time which was annoying. But I know I’ll have to deal with a teacher like you in the future, so thanks for teaching me how early on.
Spanish: Why in the world are you even teaching if all you want to do is give us a worksheet and browse the internet while we work on it? No more comments.
Econ: You are a nice person and a good teacher, so your class was tolerable despite my intense hatred of econ. Also, you forcing us to do FRQs every day is probably the only reason I passed the AP(at least I think I did)
Calculus: I know I’ve always hated you, but towards the end of the year I really saw how much you cared about all of us. That made your horrible jokes, boring lectures, diabolical tests, and occasional rudeness a little bit more forgivable.
English: I thought your class was so much fun and I learned a lot from it. Although I didn’t enjoy writing so many essays and doing such intense reading, I got so much better at it and I think I can attribute my test scores going up so much to you. Also, I love your sarcastic jokes and funny stories, and that you went out of your way to help me when I needed it.
World(this was team taught by two of the history department members- yeah, we have no money)
1st teacher: you are literally one of the coolest teachers on campus. You also did everything we needed to do well on the AP. Thanks for that.
2nd teacher(did all the lectures on Europe): although you may have went into more detail than we needed, I have some pretty interesting stories under my belt and some good evidence to use on the essays (but I didn’t even write about Europe at all, whoops)
Both: Thanks for giving me confidence when I was doubting my ability to do well on the AP. Also you both are really hot.

@ak2018 I would be in trouble if I didn’t join lol

@LosingCrayon @snowfairy137 I have to do SpringBoard too! I don’t think it had a rigorous curriculum but my English class did such a small portion of it LOL.

How is the homework coming along fellas?

Kinda joining SNHC since I still have English. I half-assed everything else but I’m too burnt out to care at this point.

So now I will procrastinate with teacher reviews:

Gov / AP Gov Teacher:
Honestly, the biggest push-over I’ve ever had as a teacher. You’re so nice about everything, but both your regular and AP Gov classes were ridiculously easy. I do think I was adequately prepared for the AP exam, though, so I can’t complain. I’m afraid APUSH will hurt a lot because of the adjustments I will have to make from this year, though.

Rating: 8.5/10

Hon English 10 Teacher:
You were my favorite teacher this year! While you were funny and got along with everyone, you still had a tough class that pushed our limits. I don’t know if the AP Lang teacher will be able to meet your standards next year.

Rating: 9/10

Intro to Pysch Teacher:
You’re really weird, but in a good way. Its nice to have a class where I can just relax and watch videos all period. Psychology is fascinating, and I hope to have you if I take AP Pysch senior year. You have a lot of opinions on education that go against the usual, and I respect that.

Rating: 8.5/10

Algebra II Teacher:
You were pretty good. I don’t like math so I can’t say I really enjoyed class, but besides being a little uptight at times you were friendly. Thanks for letting me re-make-up a math test after I made a mistake while studying… That was super kind of you.

Rating: 8/10

Hon Biology Teacher:
I was kinda of all over the place with this class. Sometimes I would do really well, or I’d slack off and scrape by… You’re the first teacher that I pushed a heavy, consistent homework load, which I’ve never managed to keep up with. I’d never complain though, I know that’s my own problem, and I already know what your response would be, anyway: “This is a honors level class”. This was practically you’re mantra throughout the year. You could be quite funny in a odd way at times. Double Bio periods were killer though, and I don’t think I will miss them.

Rating: 7.5/10

Hon Latin II Teacher:
You’re pretty great! I had you last year and this year, and being one of the youngest teachers in the school, you definitely could relate to us more than the other teachers. I feel like I improved a lot this year in Latin, and I wish I could have all four years. I’m super salty that my school is letting you go next year, when the teacher they are keeping due to having been around longer is way worse. I’m also sorry that everyone in my class was so damn whiny. You were a pretty fair teacher, albeit a little disorganized at times.

Rating: 9/10

I’m not doing my gym and health teacher, since I don’t have much of an opinion on her anyway. I liked health and have always despised gym. The teacher I had didn’t really influence my feelings on the subjects too much.

I feel so lost on what to do. I got accepted off of Girls Who Code waitlist, but I don’t know whether to go or not. The issue is that I signed up to take precalculus at a local high school, so I could hopefully skip into AP Calc AB.

I cannot take an online course for precalculus because my school will not allow it.

I looked into taking a community college course after Girls Who Code, but my parents are strictly against it.

Girls Who Code is a commuter program, and it would be a hassle for my parents to drive me back and forth. My parents are also afraid of me taking a bus.

On the other hand, taking precalculus would allow me to get credit from my high school, and skip.into a higher math level.

I am not sure what to do. I want to take a higher level of math so I could learn more, but I also really want to go to Girls Who Code, because science and technology sound incredibly fun and enriching.

Please help. Thanks for reading all that.
