High School Class of 2018

@ks2018 Probably not also chances are if you are going into premed or biochem you won’t even get credit, so you’ll have to take the classes. Overall AP scores don’t matter as much. Have you taken the ACT/SAT yet?

@kassh4 I only took the PSAT and SAT subject tests (bio M, physics, and world), but I started studying to take the SAT and ACT this fall.

@ks2018 Random question. Does the “ks” in your username stand for your initials? The “ak” in my username does. Also, I would say for schools like MIT and Cornell to report any score above a 3, even if you plan to major in biochemistry or pre-med. Some people say that it’s best to send all scores (even if they’re not good) and others say you shouldn’t send any scores until you matriculate (meaning once you actually accept the college’s admissions offer). Either way, a 4 isn’t something to be ashamed of. I would also look out for schools that don’t take AP scores into account during admissions, like Virginia Tech.

How many times are you guys gonna take the ACT and SAT? I’ve done ACT once and old SAT once, so I kinda wanna do both twice because I did better on the ACT.

If you do better on the ACT stop taking the SAT it is a waste of your time @lindsgal
I think I’m going to keep taking it until I get to a 33 maybe a 34(got a 32 on my first act in June).

This thread actually says, at least for Virginia Tech, that Virginia Tech actually does superscore between both the ACT and SAT. It mixes and matches the scores together to get the best score you could possibly achieve. The last comment on that thread specifically states that:

“Virginia tech only looks at SAT math and reading and ACT math and english. They will superscore these scores only, and they won’t look at your other scores. Also, they do mix and match scores. So if you did well on SAT math and ACT english, then they’d convert those scores to use together.”

(Your previous post sounded a little condescending, but I assume it was due to yiur skepticism.)

@ak2018 yes it does! And thanks for your response, it’s really helpful.

@ak2018 why are you doing SAT and ACT prep in order to maximize your score wouldn’t it be best to focus on one test, because while they do test similar skills I think it’d be best to just choose the test you scored higher on if you have very similar scores between the two choose the one you feel more comfortable with

and also yes the ACT overall is a more straightforward test not just the math section but you have to work at breakneck speed

wait @ak2018 i highly they doubt they superscore between the two tests

yeah @ak2018 just checked they will superscore meaning if you take the SAT twice they will take your best math and english score if you take the ACT twice they will take your best subscores from each sitting for the ACT but they won’t combine the two nor will they combine the old SAT and new SAT.

@ak2018 That thread seem a little old maybe they changed their policy?

Under the incoming freshmen tab it doesn’t say anything about super scoring from both the SAT and ACT. It just says they’ll superstore the test. I think it would be best to call them and ask them and clarify.

I refreshed the page and saw that @BucketsUCSC commented pretty much the same thing. Sorry about that.

@BucketsUCSC @kassh4 Actually, Virginia Tech is one of few colleges who actually does superscore between tests. There is another thread that was created in 2013:

Edit: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/virginia-tech/1471864-does-virginia-tech-convert-the-act-scores-to-sat.html (Here’s the actual thread)

One poster on the thread mentions that: VT is the only school I know of that will mix and match your SAT and ACT to create a super score between the two, taking the highest from either format. I don’t know why VT doesn’t directly mention it on its website, but I found multiple sources stating they do. I highly doubt they would’ve changed their policy without saying anything, considering the fact that they were one of the first schools to announce that they will no longer be accepting the old SAT from any apart of the high school class of 2017 and beyond.

How much do you guys feel AP classes prepare you for the SAT and ACT

@BucketsUCSC @kassh4 I know where you guys are coming and I appreciate that you don’t want me to waste my time. It just sucks how choosing between the ACT and SAT is basically a “pick your poison” kind of decision. You can either take the ACT, that has much straightforward questions than the SAT but has severe time constraints, or the SAT, that gives much more time per section, but has questions that, at least for me, need a little more thought.

Hello new class of 2018er here!

@fuzzypolarbears hola

@HritikKumar hii I hope everyone’s summers are going well.

@Tobster18 I feel like AP lang or lit may help with the English and reading parts, and some AP sciences (like bio) may help on the science part on the ACT. That’s why I decided to take AP lang (over lit) next year.

Yeah I was literally just reading a practice question for the SAT Math section that was about Xylem in plants. I was like ayeee AP Bio FTW
