High School Class of 2018

@Izumii

Thank you so much for your help, I’ll definitely check out the study guides and the other things you have offered.

Good luck at the IB program.

@OMPursuit : ) Thanks! Good luck to you too!

@ak2018 Ah…and I’m totally not doing it for the college app, promise!

So, I took a SAT from the college board website and am doing it right now. the only thing is that I’m not doing each section consecutively (though still timed). I finished the reading section and am now doing the writing section along with the math. I will do the calculator portion tomorrow (cause it is getting late). I want to see how I do when I have my full attention on each section. Just a strategy I thought I’d try out… For practice of course.

good strategy @apple1893

I’m worried about taking 4 AP classes…hardly anyone at my school has ever done it before (I go to a small school) and my counselor told me the last person who did it several years ago was so overwhelmed…

@OneNormalKnight Thanks!

@TheSuniscoming Yeah. At my middle school, the IBMYP program was such a joke. We only had one IB project a year and being in the IB program was never really mentioned. Basically, no one really cared that our school was an IB school. I loved my Italian class, for the most part, but it was honestly too easy. We had a new teacher every year and they never really graded anything, so I pretty much got an easy A every quarter. We were rarely challenged to think outside the box. My base high school, which also has the IBMYP and IBDP programs, has a better IBMYP program, but I decided not to attend for other reasons. If I did, I would have taken all IBMYP classes, which would’ve been hell for me.

@bubblylaugh Good! Hope you start your YouTube channel real soon. I’ll definitely subscribe! If my POE teacher allows me to record videos in class, I should have my first video uploaded sometime in September. Who knows, maybe this will even help the school.

@apple1893 That’s actually how I did the practice tests. I would take one section per day instead of sitting for a three-hour practice test session.

@fuzzypolarbears Have you contacted any of your AP teachers to see how hard the class would be (homework-wise)? Several years ago is likely a long time. The teachers are probably different and you may be able to handle it. What classes are you taking, BTW?

I’ve decided that I WILL be making my own YouTube channel sometime next month. At this point, I know I want to show viewers who watch my videos all of the cool things I’m building in my engineering classes (Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics and PLTW Principles of Engineering). I also might use the stuff I learn in class and reteach it, meaning recording myself, and use my notes to help other people. I’m still thinking of a good channel name, though. I was potentially thinking about naming my channel: TheTeenageEngineer.

So, I scored my test three hours ago and here is the result: 120 points higher than psat, 20 points higher than sat (another practice) in mid-June. No matter what my score is, improvement is all that matters to me, so I am happy. I’ll take another one in a week or so.

@ak2018 I’m also thinking of making a youtube channel, one that describes how to survive high school. I would discuss APs, SATs, college applications, extracurriculars, etc.

@apple1893 You’re right! Improvement is improvement, no matter how big or small.

For encouragement purposes, how many points did you guys improve after taking your first SAT or ACT practice test and how much did you prep in-between that the time of your first and second tests?

@nyuhopeful44 You should totally do it. I haven’t seen that many kids our age on YouTube really discussing the high school and college process in-depth, so it could potentially be pretty popular. But if it doesn’t, you should definitely keep doing it anyway. There are kids out there who are just like us. Kids, hopefully mainly middle schoolers, who are very curious as to how to have the best chance to get into the Ivies. You have the chance to spark that interest in those.

However, making the videos will definitely take time and effort. You’ll probably need video editing software (which you can probably find online for free). This is so that when you mess up on what you were going to say, you can just hit the stop recording button and continue on as if it never happened. You’ll also probably need to do a lot of fact-checking and research to make sure your information is verified and accurate. Other than that, I think you should be fine. I’m sure a lot of prospective students would love to hear about your high school experiences.

@apple1893 Congrats every improvement is a step closer to your goal!

@ak2018 @nyuhopeful44 I’ll watch if you guys make channels :slight_smile:

also @ak2018 I’m taking APUSH, AP Lang and Comp, AP Calc AB, and AP Chem (with some electives). I heard from last year’s kids that APUSH and Lang aren’t terribly horrible in the classes themselves, although idk about the AP pass rate. Calc is getting a new teacher and we’re doing chem for the first time this year, also with an unknown teacher . So I probs will be doing a lot of self studying.

I know we have posted this before, but since I’ve noticed that some people are already back in school, it made me curious: When does/did school start for you? I have 27 days left of summer; school starts August 31st for me.

Mine starts August 17th

Varsity Soccer starts August 29th
meeting teachers: September 2nd
The first trimester starts September 6th

September 6th-- day after labor day

Aug 22 rip summer

I will start next week, August 9 :-S

Mine starts tomorrow LOL

I start September 2nd which is stupid because it’s a Friday. We usually start after labour day so I’m not sure why that changed this year. I have to go to school on August 26 for registration (pics for ID, getting schedule, course changes, etc.)
