High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 At my school they schedule the classes off the top magnet kids. So we always have our schedules work out, because all the classes are based off us magnet kids.

Yeah our school doesn’t have that many scheduling conflicts for AP students as there are only 3 for juniors, and APUSH is notoriously hard at our school so like 1/3 of the kids drop(We have 2 APUSH classes). We only have 1 AP chem class and this year there are 32 kids so its going to be packed. AP Bio on the other hand. 5 classes!!!

At my school, we normally have a few conflicts here and there with those taking classes that are only offered 1-2 periods. I have never had a problem until this year. This year, two of our elective teachers (wood shop and metal working) retired so all of the other teachers with elective classes (art, choir, theater, band, etc) had to move the periods for when they are offered. As with choir, at least 10-15 students had to drop out of the audition groups because of schedule conflicts.

This year on the first day of school, I learned I had to drop either AP WH or AP Chem. I was so pissed, as I had done all of the summer work for both of them and they didn’t even care to tell me there was scheduling conflicts. Fortunately, I talked to my APWH teacher, and as I decided to postpone it for next year, he told me the summer work I had done would be counted for next year, meaning next summer I wouldn’t have to do the summer work. So I decided to take AP Chem, and chose AP Bio to replace WH. Next year I will take APWH then. Still that was really stressing for me.

At my school, it is very unlikely that a student won’t have any conflicts if he/she is taking 4+ APs. I had to drop my AP Calculus class for AP Spanish (I would like to become fluent), which means that I will continue self-studying calculus this year. I am enjoying the material for both AP Statistics and AP Calculus, and I like math a lot, so it isn’t too bad.

@TP2000 How do you go about self studying? Did you just buy a textbook and read it

@kassh4 Yeah, I’m going to self-study BC for the purpose of getting this class on my transcript, but there’s always the chance that I have to sign up for it anyways. I was reading through my state’s policy on Exams for Acceleration and it says they counted AP and CLEP exams. It’s just a matter of whether my counselor (was just assigned a new one who I hardly know!) agrees.
@TP2000 Which Calc are you self-studying for? I think I’m going to buy Thinkwell’s online prep course to self-study and Barron’s for prep. If all goes well, I’m taking the BC exam in May, but I always have the option of dropping down to AB.

Is anyone self-studying AP Psych this year? Someone might have already mentioned this, but I forgot who.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Ivy Global is giving away 200 copies of their ACT prep book on Reddit! :open_mouth:

Yes omg they sent me their New SAT edition a few months ago and I was surprised that they also sent me their ACT one just a few days ago @Hamlon

@Hamlon OMG!!! :smiley: Thanks for letting me know! I just sent an e-mail to them. Ironically, I only made a Reddit account about two weeks ago! This literally made my day!

For anyone who wants to participate for this amazing offer, here is the link: http://■■■■■■■/8mxydy

They are only giving out FREE 200 copies of their ACT prep book and, by the looks of it, about 110 people have entered, so there’s still some copies left. If you don’t have a Reddit account yet, make one! It’s free and is very similar to CC! All you need to do is email them at publishing@ivyglobal.com, put “Reddit ACT Book Request” in the subject line, and they’ll eventually email you back asking for your address. You should receive the book in three to four weeks.

Now, I know this does look like a scam, but I’ve checked it out. Ivy Global, the company that is doing this, has done this before a few months ago with the New SAT prep books. They already gave away all of their new SAT prep books and the giveaway has since been ended.

This is what the offer says, by the way:

That was the one last month. I did the same mistake, they have a newer offer I think
/r/ACT/comments/4x8dqk/ivyglobalactguidegiveaway_2/

You’re right!

CC isn’t allowing me to link Reddit, so just search “Reddit Ivy Global ACT giveaway 2” and it should come up.

Guys, I just got a reply from Ivy Global! This is legitimate!

tfw you forget about cc for a month and come back and there are 60 new pages on the c/o '18 thread

Yeah i got my Ivy Global ACT book yesterday in the mail. I wish i would have gotten the SAT one too but i didnt decided to take the PSAT/SAT until recently.

@Hamlon @kassh4 Thanks for the ACT book info. It’s always nice to get a free prep book.

I am going to try and take the AP Calculus BC exam, since I would like to take Calc III/Differential Equations next summer at the CC. As for self-studying, I downloaded both of the first two Calculus textbooks off openstax, but I honestly don’t like them very much, so I don’t know if I’ll end up using them very much. I bought the PR book for AP Calculus BC (2017 edition), and have covered the first two chapters already. There are lots of practice problems and it seems like a great book. I will be watching all of the getafive videos for the AP Calculus AB content, and I will be watching all of the khanacademy videos for the entire course. I also found another website with videos on all of the AP Calculus material by an AP Calculus teacher, which I can PM to you.

@TP2000 Lol. I helped too.

@kassh4 So you’re not taking the ACT anymore or are you taking both?

@ak2018 @Hamlon @kassh4 Thanks for the info!
