@Soccer1235 I only watched the season with Matt Smith as the Doctor. So … Matt Smith! :))
Aggh you haven’t gotten to Matt Smith?! He’s the best doctor! Most of the episodes are on Dailymotion if you look hard enough and all the ones up through season 8 (I haven’t seen season 9 yet) are on Amazon Prime if you have that.
@LeopardFire I think about letters of rec way to much honestly. I want to maybe TA next year with one of my old teachers so they can write me one. I really want to do PSEO as well next year (my mom said she’d probably get me a car to drive if I did) so I don’t know if I’d get letters of rec from those professors or what I’m not sure.
@Soccer1235 i love doctor who! and i love matt smith as the doctor!
@LeopardFire that stresses me out a lot too. i’m quiet in my classes as well and i feel like my teachers don’t get a sense of who i really am because we only see each other in class and i hate talking in big groups of people…
I was expecting the worst when I got to the season after Matt Smith…His farewell speech makes me tear up every time, but Peter Capaldi does a good job as his replacement.
I’m also nervous about letters of rec. My original plan was to get one from my Medical Interventions teacher (to prove my passion for medicine) and either my AP Chemistry or AP Physics teacher. The problem is that I’ve been pretty quiet in those classes mainly because I don’t know anyone. I’m also going to have my friend do a peer reccommendation and a couple of my club advisors.
When the realization that you are taking hits 6 AP’s hits you hard like a huge school bus and its too late to turn back… ~X(
My homework load for APUSH is insane… I didn’t think there would be this much!!! It’s honestly really life-consuming and it freaks me out how much there is. I thought WHAP would’ve prepared me for APUSH more than it did… The only thing that’s helped me this year from WHAP is the fact that there was homework every night (not always big hw assignments, but always something) and introduce me to the Cornell notetaking method, which I’m using to take notes from my textbook.
The teacher said that we are going to do a chapter a week (even during the holiday break, Thanksgiving, and spring break!!!) and that taking notes from the textbook should take about 8 hours a week on average. Ya know, not like I have any other classes with homework or anything :((
I had heard horror stories from my friends the grade above me though, so I can’t say that I wasn’t warned haha I was just surprised by the amount of homework to do the first week of school!
As for recs, I’m probably going to get one from my chorus teacher/musical director/Knightengales director, as she knows me better than any of my “academic” teachers do. In terms of an academic teacher rec, I will probably have my Human and Social Bio teacher write it, as I have her this year in HSB, the past two years in Envirothon, and in 8th grade science (my hs is a combined jr/sr high school haha), so she has seen me grow as an individual as well as a student. And then there is the ever-required counselor’s rec…
@soccer1235 everyone thinks Tennant’s the best but I honestly like Matt Smith and the stories written for his doctor better lol.
@Soccer1235 I watched the first two or three episodes of the season where Matt Smith was the Doctor. For me, I personally think he really makes the character come alive. He seemed pretty quirky as the Doctor and was very likeable. I’ll try and see if I can binge watch the season once a break comes around. Thanks for mentioning the Dailymotion thing as I don’t have a Netfilx account.
@LeopardFire I actually have thought about who I’d want to write my recommendations a while ago, but I feel I should probably revise on my plan as a few of my teachers from last year no longer work at my school.
TIP FOR EVERYONE: When getting recommendations, I’m planning on doing this. Just to give everyone a look at a possible way to do recommendations.
Recommendation #1: From the teacher of your favorite class/a teacher you really connected with (your favorite class in high school).
Recommendation #2: From the teacher who taught the class that is closest to where you plan to major in (So in my case, I would get a recommendation from my engineering teacher).
Recommendation #3: From a teacher who taught a subject opposite of what your interested in (So in this case, if you’re a STEM person, like me, get this recommendation from one of your English or History teachers. This will likely show colleges that you’re good in more than one area.)
Recommendation #4 (Optional): I was getting this one from one of my middle school teachers that I connected with and still talk to from time to time.
@ak2018 I don’t know about the middle school teacher. That’s a little too many years back imo. Also 4 letters is a lot of letters and may cause the adcoms to become uninterested.
Also, I just took the hardest test of my life in APUSH. It was a real struggle;this class is a real struggle.
My plan is my Medical Interventions teacher, my AP Lit teacher, my Key Club Advisor, the advisor for a club I started, and one from my best friend whom I’ve had a lot of classes with. That totals 5 plus the counselor one. I don’t think a lot of reccommendations is bad if they’re from people who know you well.
@kassh4 Good point. You only really need two or three. I would, however, really want him to write the essay because I do visit him from time to time and I feel it does show of bit of Ut Prosim, Virginia Tech’s words for community service. I helped him out a bit here and here, so I feel a recommendation from him would tell colleges that I can create connections with my teachers and keep them long after I am unenrolled. I think that’d be great to mention, but that’s just my opinion.
So apparently, my school now has a video game club! I heard it on the announcements this morning and it honestly got me thinking of starting my own club. I had actually planned to start my school’s Programming Club, but decided I’m already going to be doing indoor track, so I’m not be able to do it, at least alone.
I just thought of a really great idea! If I can get someone on board with my idea, we could be co-presidents! That way, when I do my sports activities, someone will still have control over the club.
YUP! I’M DOING IT!
I CAN ALREADY HEAR HOW MY NEW TITLE SOUNDS: CO-PRESIDENT OF THE PROGRAMMING CLUB!
So far, I think the way I would run my club is to attract people who don’t know how to program to those who know several different languages. This way, the novice and expert programmers can learn from each other. I was also planning to simply use YouTube videos and another coding source as tutorials. I think this might be a great idea!
And I spoke to soon! The only person who would be able to sponsor is, ironically, in the process of becoming one of the Robotics Club coaches.
I did learn, however, that we apparently have an AP Computer Science A class this year. This might end up changing my senior schedule dramatically as it will likely be available next year. I would have to take out AP Psych for AP Comp A.
Here’s my new senior schedule:
AP Economics
AP Calculus AB
PLTW Engineering Development and Design
English 12
AP Computer Science A
U.S. and Virginia History
Physics 1 or AP Physics
@ak2018 you’re going from AP Lang back to normal english?
@nyuhopeful44 Oh no, I’m not. LOL, I just put the wrong schedule up.
This is my actual projected schedule for next year:
AP Economics
AP Calculus AB
PLTW Engineering Development and Design
English 12
AP Computer Science A
U.S. and Virginia Government
Physics 1 or AP Physics
I’m planning on doing English 12 next year instead of AP Lit because of all of the reading involved. I’m an avid reader, don’t get me wrong, but combined with the APs I’m taking next year, I don’t think I’d be up for it.
Sup everyone! Been a busy first week, so I though I should give a little summary!
- Have a lot of essays and quizzes to work on
- Dropped my publishing class on the first day in exchange for a Senior Math class on Finance. I literally walked out of the Publishing room 20 minutes before class ended, and went to my advisor and explained.
- Soccer has been a workout... Loving it tho.
- "Had an english quiz... didn't do well. I don't care tho, cause I am going to rock this essay!
- I am a tired man right now.
