High School Class of 2018

I’m thinking this will be my schedule for next year:

AP Lang
AP Physics
Honors Organic Chem
AP Euro
AP Spanish
AP Psych and then another semester class not sure which

Ive heard rumors about new classes next year but nothing is confirmed so I have no idea what my schedule is going to look like next year.

I finished a engineering resume… GONNA GO FIND MYSELF AN INTERNSHIP! yea… GO ME. I BELIEVE IN MYSELF. I also had way too much caffeine and am very hyper.

And I got to judge a FIRST Lego League (elementary school robotics) competition today which was super cool because I used to be on an FLL team. Actually, the reason they let me judge instead of being a regular volunteer was because they recognized my name from when I was on the FLL team.

@snowfairy137 That’s so cool! I was planning doing an engineering internship once I go to college, after my first semester. I also planned to do some undergraduate research after my first semester as well, no matter where I attend.

Good luck handling those kids. I refereed for a VEX tournament and those kids are hyper! :))

@ak2018 I lucked out this time cause I’m a project judge I don’t have to deal with them all day. But OMG I worked as a STEM Camp Counselor this summer and I’ve been an FLL mentor in the past and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I’m thinking about having a partial schedule because I’m going to have a job, and I play three sports.

I’m thinking about this as a 4-2 partial (I show up for one full day and then on the other day I stay until lunch on a block schedule):

  1. Calculus 3 - only option since I took AP stat and AP Calc Bc already
  2. AP Economics - both macro and micro
  3. AP Physics C - only if enough people sign up, might end up in AP physics 2
  4. AP Comp Sci A or principles - I’m in a Java class that leads to A, but I wanna be a mathematician and I might find it more useful to have the knowledge from principles and not just the Java
  5. H English 12 or AP Lit - I’m not positive that I need to stress myself in lit be uses its no where near what I want to do, but I like reading so it might not be too bad

Can’t decide on my electives quite yet, butttt here is the tentative.

1- AP Lit (I like reading, but I’m not too good with dissecting literature, so we’ll see.)
2- AP Calc BC (I’m okay in precalc honors this year so hopefully I won’t die, our teacher has an 80% rate of 5’s.)
3- AP Physics 1 (the teacher is super weird, but he doesn’t flip classes so it’ll be okay)
4- AP Government (I looooveeee politics but this is gonna be so much work.)
5- Leadership in Action (1/2 yr) (the first year this class is running, it could be a trainwreck but it’ll be fun)
6- Current Events (1/2 yr) (everyone loves this class and it’s with my favorite teacher!)
7- Business Law or another business class, whatever has enough students to run that year

Have you guys ever heard of Tab for a Cause? I discovered it through this year’s Project for Awesome (We are pretty close to reaching 2 million dollars raised over this whole 4-day weekend!) and I just joined! You basically raise money for charity every time you open a new tab, which means you don’t even have to do anything out of the norm! It’s really cool and I’m already super into it.

I think my schedule for next year will be:
AP Research
AP CALC BC
AP Physics C
AP Lit
AP macro (semester)
AP Gov (semester)
AP Stat
AP Latin

As you can see, I have a death wish. And I may miss the first two weeks of school because of a study abroad program, so I’m probably going to have to meet with my teachers at the end of this year and talk with them to get the work early. Already crying

I really want to do an internship/shadowing at my doctor’s office but I’m too scared to ask lol. But I do nothing outside of school and I want to more involved instead of stuck in that school building 24/7 sighhh

@neonerudite That study abroad thing sounds really cool! I wish I could do that but my dad is very protective and wouldn’t let me go to a foreign country when I’m still in high school haha

@Marg532 it is, I’m so excited (don’t want to jinx it tho, I’m not a finalist yet)! It’s called nsli-y and its completely funded by the US department of state; at first my mom wasn’t on comfortable with it, but once she heard it was funded by the gov’t she was fine with it lol. She’s usually really strict but after the interview for it yesterday she was excited for me which was new lol.

@neonerudite I’ve heard of that one before! I had brought it up to my parents but they were like haaaaaaaaaaaaa no

Does anyone know what time PSAT scores come out tomorrow?

@Marg532 Samee

@aspiringgirl As I said in a previous post, I predicted that they will be out around 8am (between 7:40am and 8:20am) based on the time they were released last year.

@ak2018 sorry i didn’t mean to tag you XD

@ak2018
I am for sure taking:
AP Lit
AP Government
AP French
PLTW EED
AcaDeca

…which leaves my math and science classes. For science, I am either taking Honors or AP Chemistry. Right now, I am 98% sure I don’t want to take AP Chem. So that leaves another block, which I am considering filling with either Honors Anatomy + Physiology, AP Computer Science, AP Stats, or another math class. I would take an early out or an aide block, but then I couldn’t get my gym credits through sports, so that’s (sadly) out.

For math, I am conflicted about what class (or classes) I should take. We are for sure having a Discrete class, which I think would be okay. My only concern was having a gap year of calculus between now and college. We also have the option of choosing between a couple post classes (like Number Theory), which would definitely not contribute to an easier senior year. Or I could take NT/whatever and Discrete, but that sounds like a lot of math, especially since math has really screwed me over this semester.

[Sorry for this short novel.]

I’m planning on:

AP Calculus BC
AP English Literature & Composition
AP Art History
Physics
German 3

Honestly, I’m not all that happy about the classes I’m taking. They’re only on my schedule to fulfill graduation requirements and expectations. AP Calc is the only one I’m happy about. I’d take a cool elective, but I decided to keep the courseload at 5 classes in order to prepare for senioritis. Nevertheless, I’m still pretty excited about senior year. I’ve always enjoyed college planning (minus the financial stuff) and with the lighter courseload, I think I’ll have more time to just have fun. I’ll definitely be volunteering more because I’ll have my license then. It’s crazy that it feels like just yesterday that I was a freshman.
