tfw you do the net price calculators for all your schools and debt is all but certain
PSA: For anyone wondering what time your PSAT scores will be available, it will likely be somewhere in between 7:40am and 8:20am, so likely at 8am. I remember being in my Computer Math class at the time and I was able to login to CollegeBoard from my computer to see my score. This is only if they release them at the same time they did last year.
“only a 1430”… you make scoring in the 99th percentile sound like a burden lol
The score I get on Monday can determine the fate of my college search… This is stressing lol
@thenorthstar I’m pretty sure you meant to tag @TP2000, not me.
@ak2018 my friends have all said schedule 1, and then they said three is good too. lol
@LeopardFire … i was going to take another piano class with schedule one. Piano is my favorite hobby, and the class is chill (and an easy A).
@thenorthstar I like 2 too, and TA really is basically a free period
So if my state cutoff doesn’t go up, I will make it, but that seems unlikely. I think.
Also, do you guys all have your schedules figured out for senior year? I have a bit of a conundrum.
@wonderfulreads My school doesn’t do scheduling until close to the end of the school year, but I have an idea of what I want
For anyone looking for summer programs to participate in, I have found two links:
http://www.fastweb.com/college-search/articles/summer-programs-for-high-school-students
https://www.teenlife.com/category/summer/pre-college-summer-programs/
@wonderfulreads What seems to be your conundrum?
Also, I had an idea. Maybe it’d be good to display our schedules for next year and ask questions about certain classes and any concerns we have. I’ll start:
PLTW Engineering Design and Development: I think this class will really interesting as it’s made out to be an engineering research class.
AP Computer Science A: I hope this class is really fun. I’m planning on doing some Java programming tutorials over the summer as well.
AP Physics C: My only concern is that the amount of math involved is going to kill me! I’m planning on studying for this class over the summer to get a head start.
U.S. and Virginia Government: I’ll be fine here!
AP Calculus AB: So I decided I’m not going to BC Calc, but also found out that we’re going to have a quiz everyday in that class. And the quizzes can be on anything we’ved learned all year. I’m probably going to get ahead a bit over the summer alongside Physics C.
AP Economics: This class seems pretty okay. I also heard that the classwork in this class is 90% of your grade and that there is that much homework, so yeah.
English 12: This class will be easy!
So yeah, anyone have any tips for passing the AP classes I’m planning on taking?
@ak2018 I’m likely going to have scheduling issues because there’s only one section for some classes, but this is what I’m signing up for next year.
Orchestra
Choir
AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
AP Chemistry
AP Music Theory
AP Literature
Backup electives: APES and College Transition
@LeopardFire @thenorthstar
I know that my score is in the 99th percentile and that it’s still pretty good, but I used the word “only” because honestly I was hoping for/expecting a higher score, and good PSAT scores can save a lot of money. I didn’t see it “as a burden” that I got in the 99th percentile and it isn’t due to a lack of “loving myself.” It’s just a score.
@Hamlon That’s a really great schedule. I would say to definitely study for AP Chem. It’s a living nightmare for me right now!
Looks like we’re going to be AP Physics C buddies! :))
anyone know where to find your state cutoff from this past year?
@gormar099 This is one website: https://prepexpert.com/class-2017-national-merit-psat-cutoff-scores/
@gormar099 The compasstest prep website has all the cutoffs from last year in SI points. Just google “Compass Prep National Merit” and it will be the first one.
I have been starting to plan out my schedule for next year, so here’s what I’m thinking about:
AP Lang - This class is usually taken by juniors in my school, but I took Lit this year instead, so I’m just taking Lang next year.
Career and Financial Management - It’s a 6-credit community college course taught at my school about managing your finances and getting ready to enter the job market (interviews and stuff)
French 4 - It’s another 6-credit college course, which I really want to do so that I don’t have to take foreign language in college. It’s going to be hard to jump back into after the one year break of taking it that is currently this year, but it was necessary due to scheduling conflicts.
AP Gov - I’m 99% sure that I want to take this instead of the usual senior year class of Principles in Government one semester and Economics in the other, because the people who are taking it this year said it wasn’t too difficult (besides it being AP level work) and because it could possibly mean more college credit in the future (that I don’t want to pay a lot for)
Applied Math - This is considered the “easy” math at my school, but to be honest, I would prefer it. The other two options are Pre-Calc and a college level Stats class, and I don’t think I would be able to handle it.
Vocal Jazz - A fun music elective that is all about jazz music and using Garage Band for projects. I was supposed to take it this year but due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t pull it off. I’m definitely going to be able to take it next year, though, so I’m super pumped! I love the teacher, and by taking this class I’ve officially taken all of the music electives possible!
Gym - I want to take the new elective they introduced this year, called LIFE (it stands for something but I have no idea what) that is more individual-based (no participation in team sports) and teaches about nutrition and stuff. I wanted to take it this year, but they only offered it 9th period because it’s on a trial period, and I have band and chorus on both A and B days during 9th period, so it sucked. But if they decide to offer it in more periods of the day, I will definitely be up for it.
And then of course band and chorus, ensuring that I end the day on the right foot (and in a good mood)
This is my prospective schedule:
AP Lit- This is the norm for AP seniors at my school. I’m not looking forward to this class because I HATE the subjective-ness of this class, but I should take it. I really like reading! Just not essays for reading… ugh…essays.
AP Biology: I’m really excited about this class because I love bio! BUT everyone I’ve talked to has said that the class and teacher are horrible. yay.
AP Calc BC: I’m really excited for this too! I will have the same teach as I have now for AP Calc AB and he’s the best!!! I just really hope I don’t have schedule conflicts… I took AB because this class interfered with choir, so I really hope that doesn’t happen again.
AP Gov, Honors Econ: Yuck. I’ll just have to suck it up. darn.
AP Comp sci: I really want to learn how to code!!! Can someone tell me how hard this is? I have no experience but want to try coding before I choose my major.* It’s either this of anatomy and physiology.
Madrigals (Choir): Second year of Mads, third year of choir!! I’m excited for another year of choir, but my mom wants me to try something different. I’ve been trying to explain that commitment is better than variety but she doesn’t get it. Oh well.
Oh! I forgot to mention that if my old Bio teacher actually goes through with it, there might be an Infectious Diseases class at my school next year that I would die to be able to take! I like that teacher a lot, so I would totally be up for taking it. I originally wasn’t going to take a science my senior year, because NYS only requires 3 science classes for graduation, and I hate Chem, but if this class is going to be offered, I will definitely take it!
Hopefully, my schedule for next year:
If I get into a medical program at a local college
AP Lit
AP Spanish Lang
AP Stat
AP Research
If not:
AP Lit
AP Spanish Lang
AP Stat
AP Research
AP Chem
Calc 2/Differential Equations (The math after AP Calc AB)
AP World or AP Euro
