High School Class of 2018

RE some comment made last page: ED means that you apply to ONE school early and you have to go if accepted.

^^Unless the financial aid amount you were awarded would place a huge burden on your family, you can only apply to one school ED like @awesomepolyglot said with exceptions like in-state public universities. ED is a binding legal agreement. You don’t want to be ‘blacklisted’ from other schools.

If you apply ED someplace can you apply normal EA another? I think you can because it says you have to withdraw any other applications if accepted, but I’m not sure.

@Soccer1235 I think it depends on the school. For example, it looks like you can at Duke but at Princeton you can’t.

@snowfairy137 I live in AZ and I went to UoA about a month ago, and it is not as hot as Phoenix. The weather is pretty good in the winter though; it won’t really get any colder than ~40 degrees.

I got my PSAT score from my counselor today and I only got a 1430 (740 Math and 690 Reading) with a selection index of 212. I will not be a semifinalist since AZ’s cutoff is 219, but I will very likely get commended. I must have screwed up the reading or writing portion badly since I got a 720 on the practice test I took.

@bubblylaugh I really don’t know what you plan to go into in college but I like schedule 2 because I feel like although it is clearly very rigorous, you have the TA class where you can chill out. Idk. The others probably have better advice.

So based on my recent Pre-Calc and actually talking with the AP Calc AB teacher, I’m sticking with Calc AB. I saw the way the class (Calc BC) is done and I definitely wouldn’t handle the workload. Do you guys think it’s bad to do this? Especially since I’m taking 3 APs next year.

Congrats on all of these PSAT scores! I got an email about it yesterday from CB and died a little inside…

@bubblylaugh Is there a reason you can’t be a TA with your first schedule? That is what I would go with.

@TP2000 “Only” a 1430?? Love yourself

@ak2018 Getting an A in Calc AB is better than getting a B in Calc BC.

@WorryHurry411 I haven’t received my score yet

Yeah, I haven’t either. The counselors plan on telling us on the official release day for students. Although everyone in the offices know what my friend A’s score is and they’re making it sound like she got like the highest ever or something haha it’s probably not that but she probably got the highest out of everyone who took it this year. She’s that smart lol I love her but envy her at the same time xD

@droporain @Marg532 That’s on Monday, then. Only a few days more of waiting!

@frazzledazzle Thank God!!! I’m getting more and more nervous the closer the PSAT comes. It’s like Schrodinger’s PSAT score haha I highly doubt that I will score high enough to be a NMSF or NM Commended, but then again, I could’ve scored that well haha we won’t know until Monday

The Cornell ED people just got their decisions :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey all, I’m a high school junior like the rest of you. I’m from MN. I’ve been a longtime lurker of CC, but finally decided to actually post. Excited to share my high school experiences with you all

On a separate note, I was curious about any humanities summer programs I should apply to besides TASP?
A little about me-
I’m currently interested in Yale (I know cliche)…
Enrolled in 5 college level courses, two of which are APs.
My school has this thing called CIS which allows you to take college level courses while still in high school-
the grade you get goes on your U of M transcript.
Classes-
CIS:
African American Studies
US History
Physics

AP:
Lang and Comp
Calc AB
and Online Gym (all gyms are full at my school)

Nice to meet you all- excited to share this journey with this community!

@FreePariah Welcome to the c/o 2018 thread! For humanities programs, there are a lot of scholarships out there for study abroad. Startalk (critical language teaching) might be available to you, but it’s mainly local.

Currently in POE helping to fix my teacher’s broken TV! :))

I know this is really off topic, but please tell me I’m not the only one excited to see the new Spiderman movie in July! I literally just saw the trailer and I’m so excited! I’ve been a fan of everything Spiderman since I was 4 and have watched every movie so far. I even had a few Spiderman toys and a Spiderman backpack when I was a kid. I hope I’ll be in theaters opening day!

is it just me but since ED/EA results are starting to come out and after seeing my senior friends’ reactions, it’s finally starting to set in how that’s going to be me in a year’s time

it’s like a half “i’m so happy for them” and a half “oh damn so this is how it feels oh no i’m scared” feeling

also, since my school is very small and p tight-knit, i’m kind of feeling the pressure too lol. like in the past two days, my one friend got into cornell for engineering and this other person in my one class got into wharton! it’s a bit of pressure to get into a top school since i’m near the top of my class at a school that regularly sends kids to really good schools.

tl;dr - i’m hella nervous for next year
