High School Class of 2018

@Marg532 Good thing there’s an August testing date now, so you won’t be in a time crunch Senior year.
@ak2018 Don’t take Math 1. You want to be a STEM major and already reached pre-calc. Only one school requires 3 subject tests and that’s Georgetown. You should pick a language, literature, or history as your third. Other option is to focus on just Chemistry and Math 2. Quality > quantity

@raffie Thanks! :smiley:

@Hamlon Thanks for the advice. I was also thinking of taking the Literature test, since it look kind of similar to the SAT Reading section.

Guys, I need advice urgently. I’m applying for an internship for this summer at a local college. I attached my reserach paper for an experiment I conducted this summer. On the first page of my paper (title page) I wrote Copper Culfate instead of Copper Sulfate L-) . I just recognized this and I emailed over 30 people already, what do i do?!?!?!? L-) :-??

*research paper from last summer

@Tobster18 It’ll likely fine. They’ll understand that it was likely just a typo, especially if you wrote Copper Sulfate correctly on other pages. I wouldn’t send it again as it might come of as a little annoying.

If anything, they might remember you as the “Copper Culfate” kid. And if any of them literally just judge a book, or report, by its cover, then they’re not worth your time.

@ak2018 That’s what I thought. But its the title, like that’s the first thing they will read, so that will be their first impression of my research and me as a person. ahhhhh this is so stressful. ~X(

@Tobster18 I’m

@Tobster18 I mean I’m pretty sure they don’t expect you to have perfect grammar. You have to remember that you’re trying to impress community college professors, not Albert Einstein.

Also, I’m not saying this to discourage you, but rather saying it as it’s kind of reality. When it comes to doing research with college professors, it’s usually best to have some kind of connection with said professors. By connections, I mean like talking to your science teacher who happens to be married to a doctor who happens to work at a very large hospital nearby. Another way to get into doing research is to read up on the research of a few professors and ask them questions about it. This shows that you definitely did your homework on them. There was a really good thread on r/ApplyingtoCollege about it.

So now that I’ve pretty much figured out my whole diploma mess, I want to actually start looking for summer programs to apply for. Do you guys happy to know any really good ones?

I would probably want to apply to some STEM programs on the East Coast. I’ll Google some too.

@ak2018 ITS FRC KICKOFF DAY WHAT ARE YOU DOING TAKING PRATICE SATS??? #steampunkhypee

@snowfairy137 OMG I KNOW I’M SUCH A LOSER! :(( :))

I’m literally trying to figure out what I missed by looking through and hysterically laughing at FRC memes on r/FRC! :))

I’m watching the FRC Kickoff Day Video and FRC Game Animation right now. So far, I want Professor Elemental to be my new ringtone! :)) Do you happen to know where I could see the livestream, even though it’s probably over?

My FRC team even made me a steampunk hat in my honor to acknowledge that I wasn’t there :(( . I get to wear the hat at the next meeting though :slight_smile:

Anyway, even though I’m dissapointed over the fact that this isn’t a Watergame, I can’t wait to get started on the road to St. Louis! I’m honestly so hyped that I listened to Steampunk music for the past few hours!

@ak2018 the kickoff day video was the good part of the livestream. The rest was just really bad FRC song parodies made by teams. It was a little cringeworthy.

@raffie I’m taking physics honors right now and my mom also signed me up for a tutoring service so I’ll be going there to get help for subject tests

I have the SAT in exactly 2 weeks and I’m still struggling with Right Triangle Trig and Circle Theorem q’s. Khan Academy isn’t helping much. Everytime I watch a video the problems worked are basic. Is there anything else I can use to actually learn these topics?

The problems in the videos are basic so you can learn the concept behind them, and then apply them to more difficult problems. If you are having trouble with the problems, it is most likely because you are not yet completely proficient in those areas and you need to sharpen the requisite skills. If it’s less of “I don’t understand how to do these” and more of “I want more challenging practice”, then there isn’t much I can suggest other than purchase (or pirate, but I can’t condone that) a prep book and hammer out some problems.

@Hamlon Look in your Precalc or Alg 2 book both should cover trig. There they should teach you everything you need to know about trig and they will both have a bunch of practice problems.

@Wolfgangbread @kassh4 Thanks y’all.

If you have any specific questions maybe someone on here(me included) can give you a better explanation than collegeboard those because for me personally their explantions are pretty weak. @Hamlon

I’ve taken all 6 practice tests and reviewed them by the way

I just realized my SAT is in two weeks, haven’t even started studying lol.
I’m planning on taking the bio-m and math 2 sat subject tests, maybe lit as well.
I need advice for my next year schedule. Here’s how its looking now:
AP Lit
AP Research
AP CALC BC
AP Latin
AP gov and Macro (semester classes)
AP Stat
AP Physics C/Chem

My problem is whether to take ap physics C or ap Chem. Im taking 5 APs rn, including physics 1 , calc ab and apes, so that would give me an edge in physics, but I really wanted to take Chem. However, I really like my physics teacher, more than the chem teacher (she teaches my APES class), however I still want a good relationship with my APES teacher (she recommended me for a really good summer program), so I’m stuck. I also have the option to not take stat and just take both, but I think that would kill me TBH. Anyone have experiences with these classes?? Help pls
