Wait some people already did some college apps??? When should I start filling out college apps? Like right when junior year ends?
Also, I’m so happy because my AP Chem teacher finally posted the grade for our AP Chem final today b/c we came back from winter break today and I kept my A-! My grade was very borderline (around 90.5?) and I just barely got an A. I got an 89.7, but in my school, since we don’t have A+s and it’s rigorous, an 89.5% is an A- in my school’s grading scale. I honestly thought my grade was going to drop a B and accepted it, but I was really happy when I saw my grade. I have a solid B in AP Lit though. I don’t know how to improve my writing.
Does anybody have good tips to improve writing skills and analysis when writing timed writes?
I’ve always been really close to my music teachers haha we are basically like a tight knit family! Tbh I spend more time there and at school than I spend actually at home :))
@joyce1517 CONGRATS!! that’s awesome! i’m still studying for my finals haha
Don’t we start apps senior year? I think we should start looking at colleges rn and then ask for LOR in the spring… then over the summer start writing your statement and stuff like that
@joyce1517 Congrats! It must have been stressful waiting for that grade.
The posts on here are referring to summer program applications, I don’t think we can start applying for colleges until summer.
For timed writings, I suggest practicing. Use prompts from CB or really from anywhere and set a timer for 45 minutes (or however much time you have in class).
I think I’m going to apply for GreatBooks. They have a nonfiction program that I want to attend. It claims to cover college essays, too, which is nice.
I found out a program I completed for my Entrepreneurship class has a Yale GlobalScholars scholarship. I kinda want to apply, but I doubt I’d get in. orz
I am fairly skilled at building relationships with teachers. I have an outwardly gregarious disposition (it’s odd––I don’t desire social interaction often, but I am preternaturally skilled at it), so I am always, at the very least, acknowledged often.
My European History teacher and I are very similar to each other in terms of interests, beliefs, etc. so we’re on great terms. Definitely asking her for a rec.
I think your chances are a lot higher than that given what I have seen of your passion and excitement for and by engineering and academics on this thread.
So how many summer programs are you guys signing up for? I feel like I need a good number to be my limit or else I’ll feel the need to apply to as many as possible. :))
I’m going to avoid applying for summer programs this year. I really want to go to the Junior Classical League Convention at the last week of July, so I’m planning on taking summer courses at my state school for the first month of break and getting a job to pay for everything.
I am applying to two summer programs (MITES and in state gov school) and I have a side internship just in case. I am in the same boat for teacher recs. Mites requires a science teacher but my bio teacher doesn’t know my name, I have asked my chem teacher for 3 recs already, and I suck at physics
I’m not applying for any summer programs. I plan on getting a summer job to increase savings and take a CC summer course, probably online, and hopefully for free (there’s a scholarship for rising seniors to take a summer course).
Man I just turned it in sorry @raffie I had someone read it over text tho. I should have checked this first.
2/8-9 applications done
I’ve asked my chem teacher for 3-4 recs so far :>
I need to figure out a schedule by Friday for next year, and I’m not sure what to do. My school runs a block schedule, and I’m most likely gonna take a partial (4-2 or 2-2) becuase I play three sports and I don’t need dumb electives like gym. I have three options:
Calculus 3 (online)
AP Literature and Composition
AP Physics 2
AP Economics (Macro and Micro)
or
Calculus 3 (online)
H English 12
AP Economics
AP Physics 2
AP Computer Science Principles
Study Hall/Peer Tutor
or
Calculus 3 (online)
H English 12
AP Psych
AP Physics 2
AP Computer Science Principles
Study Hall/Peer Tutor
My biggest issue is that I don’t know if I want to take AP Literature or honors English. I have an A in AP Lang, but I wanna be a math major so Lit doesn’t possess some of the things that Econ and Comp Sci offer. I am really interest in English though, and both the Lit teachers are amazing.
So far, I’ve found 4-6 programs that I want to sign up for. I plan to submit them before the end of the semester because my 2nd quarter grades are going to be trash! :))
@ak2018 The only program I have solid interest in is the Writer’s Workshop from GreatBooks. The non-fiction track is just what I’m looking for. Since it is only a week, I’m hoping I would be able to have a job for the rest of the summer, which I’ll hopefully start next semester…
@DaEmmJay23 I think your first schedule is a bit too light. I would go with either your first or second. AP Econ may be more relevant to your major, but if you are genuinely interested in AP Psych you should go for that instead. You already have a lot on your plate, so I wouldn’t take AP Lit.
