Trying to plan summer programs around two mission trips (one international and one domestic) and a possible family vacation… yikes.
me freshman year: ok I guess I don’t really NEED to do the extra credit but I will anyway so my teacher knows I care.
me now: yeah I decided not to do the project because I did the calculations and I’ll still have an A without it. Gives me extra time to watch Netflix.
@neptuna That is actually me haha!
@DaEmmJay23, if you think the workload isn’t too much I would go for AP lit if it interests you
I’m probably applying for Harvard Summer School and UChicago Immersion.
@DaEmmJay23 Wow, Calculus 3 in Grade 12 :-O? I haven’t even started Pre-Calculus 11 yet, haha.
@Marg532 Are you still doing the Hamilton Scholarship application? It’s literally due tomorrow and I haven’t even finished the essays. I finished the first one, two more to go. :))
@acomfysofa You’re still in a good place. In my county, they experimented with my class and a few before them where kids were taking Algebra in 6/7 grade and now we are all in Pre-Calc, Calc, and a few take Linear Algebra. They are going back to Algebra in 8/9 though because there are so many kids who were placed into Algebra early and struggle greatly now. It’s a big problem that thankfully was fixed.
I honestly don’t know how to make these essays. Should I go slightly unstructured or structured, nice word choice (I usually use big words when writing) or conversational, introduction/conclusion or nah, etc.
I just had to do an entire AP Mock English exam. It wasn’t that bad. One of the passages was on laziness and a supporting example was that only the truly lazy would walk out of an exam they didn’t see the value in taking…
Also, does anyone in APUSH think the exam/class is easier than AP world’s? It feels like the excerpts basically give away answers. I’m not sure if I’m underestimating the AP exam? The long essay seems easier to get points in than AP world’s too.
@ak2018 I have one more to go haha
@Hamlon that’s such a coincidence! I took a mock AP exam today as well (although it was in Music Theory, not English).
The AP test for APUSH was not very difficult. I was only crunched for time on the short-answer questions because one was on the Mexican-American War and another was on population increase in the colonies, both of which I blanked on for a short while. As such, my rushed handwriting degenerated into illegible chicken-scratch by the end, but I presume I still did fine on it. Everything else was not difficult, so as long as you/your teacher prepared yourself well for it, it will be a cakewalk.
@Hamlon yeah that’s how i feel to APUSH tests just seem so much easier than WHAP
So we were just told by our AP Lang teacher on Wednesday that we’ll be doing scheduling next week! This seems so soon, but I guess it’s now or never!
So here’s my pretty much finalized schedule:
PLTW Engineering Design and Development
AP Comp Sci A*
AP Physics C
U.S. and VA Government
AP Calc AB
AP Econ (Micro/Macro)
English 12
*If AP Comp Sci A isn’t offered next year, even though it probably will, then these are my alternatives:
1st: AP Psychology
2nd: World History 2 OR AP World History
3rd: Pre-AP Spanish 3
So that’s mainly it. Anyone want to convince me to do AP Gov, AP Lit, or any other AP class, with my workload? I can only do 7 classes per year.
@Ak2018 that looks like a solid schedule that fits your interests well. Good luck!
We turned in our schedule selection sheets today. I went with
Calculus 3 (online)
AP Literature and Composition
AP Psychology
AP Computer Science Principles
AP Physics 2
H Constitutional Law (one semester)
H Contemporary Voices (one semester)
I’m going to go to school 4 periods one day and 2 periods the next. I figured why would I stay to take study Hall or gym classes? My backup classes are
AP Economics
AP Computer Science A
H English 12
if my selections don’t fit
My school starts scheduling next week, too! I don’t know when juniors will start, but I think we will be first. I have a pretty solid idea of what I want, but I’m not quite sure yet.
So today was an okay day:
- I'm doing well in Spanish
- Still failing Pre-Calc :((
- Wrote a mock AP Lang writing prompt relating to SNL and dank memes! B-)
- Made a anti-child labor poster in U.S. History
- Got accepted into a $2000 summer program I probably won't be able to afford! :((
- Got a 1210 on my SAT practice test.
600 CR/W
610 M
@snowfairy137 Thanks!
Also, for anyone applying for the Hamilton Scholarship Program, the application is due tonight at 11:59pm PST (2:59am EST)! I’m 3/5 of the way through the second essay and then I’m onto the third! Wish me and @Marg532
@ak2018 Congrats on your acceptance! I hope it works out for you. And I can relate with Pre-Calc, I’m ready to fail that my midterm. x)
I was super stressed out today. I had to turn a take-home quiz for Pre-Calc that I woke up at 4 AM to complete, a quiz in Latin with 40 vocab words that I memorized the period before, and I had a timed writing in AP Lang that we were preparing for all week. Even though that should have made it less stressful, I overthought things too much and ended up really unhappy with what I wrote. Hopefully my classmates did worse teacher thinks otherwise.
