For Pre Calc H today we had a test it was modeling sine and cosine functions in real life its the only thing I’ve struggled with all year but thankfully we can still get a 3/4 on our learning target if we know how to graph regular sine and cosine functions with transformations but if you want that 4 you need to know how to model the function in real life situations RIP.
Is anybody planning on doing full time dual enrollment next year? I want to do this at Georgia Tech (best school in my area that offers DE) but I hear it is pretty competitive.
@OneNormalKnight I think I am going to all my courses at the community college by my school. I’m very excited because they are completely redoing the schedules at my school and doing block days a few days a week.
Also I have finals Tuesday-Thursday and I am going crazy studying for them I just started and I already feel overwhelmed.
Hi everyone! I got my schedule stuff on Wednesday… wow
I’m gonna take:
AP Bio
AP Calc BC
AP Lit
Software Development and Game Design (1st semester)/AP Govt (2nd semester)
I have three hours left. Those three will be filled with CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies). I plan to take foundations of medicine 1 first semester and foundations of medicine: research and innovation (basically the one that comes after foundations of medicine 1) second semester
I’ll probably be in French at the community college near my house
@OneNormalKnight I’m doing that right now.
Today I got my worst test grade in any class of the entire year on my Pre-Calc test. What’s even more ironic is that I found it incredibly easy when taking it and thought that I would ace it. Turns out I foolishly bumbled a couple large questions due to careless errors. I suppose I had to have an Icarus moment when I was so close to getting the term grade I wanted.
I also got an A on my AP Euro midterm (the highest in our class), so that at least offered a bright spot in my day.
One week until my SAT Math 2. Either going to get an 800 or bomb the entire thing because I never took Pre-Cal yet *
- But I did self-study the topics for months beforehand, so I didn't blow $100 for nothing!
Hi folks… I’m new.
For people interested in Dual Enrollment, I’ve been doing it since the beginning of the year and am enjoying it. The main question is if you’re willing to accept accelerated coursework. For my calc class this meant that 25%-50% dropped out before the end of the semester since the curriculum went too fast. The other DE students also found it a rather difficult transition and spent some time in the Math Resource center which helped them. For DE students I highly recommend take advantage of the resources provided and ask for help at the first sign of trouble.
A question of my own: Anyone know good threads concerning DE and how its viewed by admissions?
Scheduling doesn’t start until next month or so.
Hmm… my school is offering dual-enrollment this semester and i’m tempted for these classes:
American Sign Language
Sociology
Which one should I take?
Don’t know anyone who has taken sociology. Sign language is like any language class except focuses more on kinetic and visual learners from what I understand from others. Personally American sign language is something you can self study more easily.
If you have a hard time choosing, or if anything, lookup the professors on Rate My Professors. The teacher can make or break the class.
y’all, i finally got my PSAT score, and i’m so happy!! I got a 750 in reading/writing and a 710 in math for a total composite of 1460. Im taking the SAT on the 21st so at least I have a rough estimate on where I stand.
And I officially figured out my senior year schedule… Ill be taking;
AP Lit
AP Research
AP Gov and Macro
AP Physics C
AP Latin
AP Calc BC
i decided against ap chem and ap stat, and this way i’ll only be adding on one more AP for next year.
Well, I literally slept through the deadline for the application and I didn’t get in done on time! :((
epicfail :))
AP Latin… The dead language test.
Let me just say that both of my parents learned Latin in school and it has never turned out to be useful.
@neoneurdite
I don’t think our school has that many APs… Oh right nobody takes Physics senior year and Research isn’t an AP. But do you basically have that many APs every year?
My friend’s parents are sociology professors lol. I’ll probably never take the subject though.
Anyone else taking the SAT in a week?
My school is going to start scheduling next week, but I don’t know what to do! I really want to continue choir, but I don’t think I have room. My two electives will be AP French and AP Physics if I don’t do choir. How do these schedules look?
Schedule 1
AP Lit (ew- very writing/reading intensive)
AP Calc BC
AP Bio (hardest AP at my school)
Gov/Econ (ew-politics)
AP French (will have same teacher for 4 yr)
AP Physics(should prob. take bc pre-med)
Schedule 2
ERWC(reg lang)
AP Calc BC
AP Bio
AP Gov/honors Econ
AP French
AP Physics
Schedule 3
AP Lit
AP Calc BC
AP Bio
AP Gov/honors Econ
AP Physics
Madrigals (Choir)
My school did have a zero period for choir this year, but if I took that next year (assuming they still have it) that would mean I would loose sleep. I like sleep… Also, that class is more like student-directed show choir, not traditional choir.
Help. Please…
:-S
@sewin2music I would suggest keeping French if the teacher likes you and could write you a good letter of recommendation or something, as they have seen you develop over four years. Since you don’t seem to like the idea of gov/econ, I would probably tell you to do the on level class to save your energy for harder and better regarded AP’s. According to my counselor, AP Gov is not seen as a “rigorous” class. AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Calc BC, and AP Physics are considered really good classes to take, and AP French is also a good one. Many people in my grade take econ and gov online and/or over the summer to make room in their schedule for better classes, so if that is an option for you I would encourage you to consider it.
@ak2018 You might be able to crowdfund your summer program.
Places to ask around:
Family friends
Place of employment (Your parent’s/yours)
STEM non-profits
Local businesses
-maybe a minority-owned business in STEM?
Place of worship
School
-many STEM teachers have acquaintances in the industry making $$$
@sewin2music How badly do you still want to be in choir? If you don’t care, drop the class. If choir is personally more of a priority for you, stay in choir. Being in an activity for 4+ years shows you have commitment. I like both schedule 1 and 3.
@MberihYm Me!!
