@MberihYm I am!! This is my second time so I really hope that it goes well
@PulseStar yea, my school is really AP heavy, so this amount of APs is normal for the top students. And I actually really like Latin, even if I’ll never use it, it’s a really cool language.
@Hamlon Thanks for the idea. I honestly hate when programs do this. Especially a program like this where they act like they selected you and then don’t even put how much money you gave to pay for the program anywhere in the e-mail.
It’s pretty sure it’s a business technique: they make you feel all special by saying something like (you’ve been randomly selected) and then you dig a little deeper only to figure out it costs like $2K. I’m pretty sure it’s called the bait and switch technique.
Our school keeps trying to cut APs and then everyone gets mad. Something about APs being bad for student health and students being ill prepared to deal with them. Sounds stupid because APs are supposed to be challenging and you can decide to not take them
Tell me why I literally slept all day and left myself with less than 5 hours to finish a paper. I’m a hot mess. :))
@OneNormalKnight I was thinking along the same lines. Of all my teachers I’m closest to my French teacher. She’s also known for writing really good letters of recommendation. I I’ll see if online or summer school is allowed for gov/econ. I know that both options are typically used for people behind on graduation requirements, but hopefully they’ll make an exception!
@Hamlon Choir, for me, is really the best stress reliever I have. I get so excited about all of our music (right now a West Side Story medley!!) I can’t really see giving it up, but my parents don’t really understand loving music or the importance of commitment and would rather see me doing something else.
I think I’ll try for schedule 1 with online gov/econ and Madrigals in its place(best-case scenario). Thank you!!!
On a very different note, I’m starting a new club at my school! We are going to fund-raise for the National Canine Cancer Foundation and volunteer at a local animal shelter! I’m so excited to have our first all-members meeting!!!
@sewin2music Does your school have summer/online dual enrollment? You could get gov and econ out of the way right now! I’m taking both online starting next week for the same reason as you. My parents try to pressure me to quit choir/orchestra every other week. Not happening!
I’m super excited because I’ve decided that I’m going to try and get Digital Photography into my schedule for next year! I love art, but I’ve never had time for any classes because I have music classes whenever possible. But I have an every-other day slot open for the taking (if I’m correctly predicting how my schedule would lay out), and I just discovered that photography is every other day AND doesn’t require the intro art class as a prerequisite! The only thing is that I would have to buy my own camera, but I can just buy a relatively cheap one. I hope everything goes the way I’m hoping and that I get to take it!
Just created the Young Republican’s Club at my school (my school is super super liberal). We had a club fair this past Friday and me and my vice president were getting mean glares from a lot of students, especially the GSA(gay straight alliance) table, even teachers were giving us nasty looks.
My robotics team picked a design today and my group’s was chosen!! Exciting stuff.
@snowfairy137 Cool! My team picked our design on Tuesday. We’re going with an H-drive design for our chasis. I’m also on CAD duty so I have to learn how to use Creo, which should be fun!
For Dual Enrollment I am planning to take Applied Calculus.
I have taken: Statistics- 93
Macroeconomics- 90 LOL I AM VERY LUCKY WITH THIS ONE
Hoping to keep the 90 streak going with Calc.
Has anyone taken a fully “Applied” class yet? How is it?
TFW you submit a paper 7 minutes before the deadline: B-)
Hey there guys! Black girl (Nigerian) from Virginia here! I’m applying to the MITES program at MIT and I’m really scared. Oh well, I’ll hope for the best.
I think my classes for next year might be
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
AP Biology or Physics (im not so sure yet)
AP Government (ew i hate history)
Dual Enrollment Investigatory Science Research
Dual Enrollment English 12 or AP Lit (not really sure yet. i hate english too)
Art 3
I’m super excited for my senior year and I have really good grades and am in the running for possible valedictorian, but i’m scared that I don’t have enough extracurriculars and that my sat/act scores wont be good enough for the type of schools im applying too (ivy leagues) 8->
anyone else feel really stressed out?
Hey @angelwings0137 I’m also a black guy from Virginia who’s also applying for MITES, small world! :))
@apple1893
I’ve taken regular Calc AB under DE and know some kids taking/took applied Calc.
Generally Applied Calc is considered inferior and a class for those who can’t understand calculus. This can also be seen by the fact that it doesn’t fill prereq requirements and the prereq is algebra. It could be an easy class but I believe applying yourself in regular Calc will look more impressive and there are plenty of resources out there for normal calc. Have you taken trig/precalc yet?
Otherwise look at the teacher.
So I may or may not made a thread called r/hssummerprograms on “you know where”. It’s meant to be a place for high school students, like us, who are applying for high school programs. You can make your own threads and chat with other people who are applying. The thread already have three subscribers! So yeah, check it out!
