High School Class of 2018

You lost me on the you know where.

If I don’t make it into Dual Enrollment I think this will be my schedule:
AP Lit
AP Physics II (B? My school is weird)
Acting
Online: AP Calc C, Econ, Gov
AP French
and APES or AP CompSci A… not sure which I would want to do.

@apple1893 The same thing happened to me in DC French. I barely got by with a 91. I was in the dark for the entire semester because my teacher put in all the grades 2 days before the class ended. I didnt know my grade would be recorded as a letter grade, so I was really close to messing with my college gpa.

@angelwings0137 The self-doubt of if I’m a good fit for certain schools stresses me out. I hear one negative thing about a school and all of a sudden my brain’s like, “Guess who’s better off not going to college?” Extremely irrational, but if that’s not me. I’m a scared Naija gal applying to MITES too, but from Texas.

@ak2018 I’ll check it out!

@PulseStar Reddit

Yeah I am taking History and Econ and Finance online too in order to open up my schedule. The only bad thing is duel enrollment online is only open to students in the “Gifted” program at my school

@Hamlon I was going to say it, but I know how some of the mods get when you mention their name.

Also, r/hssummerprogams is growing a bit. I’m treating it like a business :)) We’ve gone to 73 subscribers overnight and we’ve officially become international. I wonder if I can put this on my app or not? :))

@ak2018 is talking about Reddit

@ak2018 @angelwings2312 Im a black girl from Virginia applying to MITES (Tanzanian)!!

So this is kind of off topic but there is currently a suspect on the run accused of Grand Theft Auto in my city and there are a bunch of squad cars riding throughout the city looking for the suspect. The guy stole a Mercedes. I was literally walking back from CVS as the cars came down the road. There were at least 10 of them. My house is currently on lockdown, by request of my parents. No one is getting in or out. I’m not really worried though, just a bit frightened at first.

@ak2018 i totally thought you were talking about the video game until the last two sentences :))

@neonrudite Yeah, it’s pretty real. They’ve apparently found the suspect’s house, which is on the next street over from mine. I can literally see the police cars from my house. One of my friends lives down there, so I hope she and her family are okay.

@ak2018 Sounds like an interesting college app essay. /:slight_smile:

@Tobster18 It probably could be, but I don’t know how I’d flesh it out.

I’m rather hesitant to do this, but I’m considering opening a thread for dual enrollment students. The idea would be for people to share their experiences and have a thread to answer simple questions. Would this be a bad idea or not?

@PulseStar Yeah you should do it. I am starting dual enrollment soon at my local community college. I read that some of you are doing it a universities. How?

@kitkat01 I live in Georgia, which has a well-developed dual enrollment program (we call it Move On When Ready). Most people do it at a local two-year/community college, but I live close enough to Atlanta that it would be feasible for me to do it at Georgia Tech, which offers the program because it is a state school. I just do the regular online application and then when I register for my courses (I think) I have to do another application to Georgia Tech?

@kitkat01 yea, I live in WA, which has running start. Pretty much you’re allowed to take classes at a public university or community college for free. Kids in my area get to choose between two community colleges and Eastern Washington University. (Not exactly Georgia Tech but you get what you get). Also, Gonzaga, which is a private university in my area does have a dual enrollment program where high scool students can take classes at waaaay reduced tutuion. Not a lot of people know about that. Idk about other schools since these are just the ones that are close to me but you might be able to find something if you look hard enough.

@kitkat01 DE at universities is dependent on university policy I believe. Our local unis don’t seem to have DE but they do concurrent enrollment. The problem with concurrent enrollment is that you only get to take classes that have free spots once all the college students have decided. For DE students, we have a a set date to enroll before regular enrollment and compete with early enrollment college students to be the first one signed up in a class.

Sorry if that is too confusing. I’ll go and open a DE thread in a couple minutes.

And posted the thread. I’m slightly afraid that the leading post is too short

Can’t decide what to do for my schedule next year, have to pick 2 of:
AP Comp Sci A
French 5 AP
Mentorship Program (Technically Honors)

What’s the mentorship program like?
