High School Class of 2018

@Tobster18 Congrats!

I am done with my essays and trying furiously to brush them up a bit :!!

Lol for a second I thought my second essay wasn’t done but then I realized it was done on a word document :-SS

I also was invited for the National Hispanic Recognition program! I’m so happy as I didn’t think I would make it.

I think there is high chance that you made it but I would look at some online predictions @Soccer1235

Turned in my MITES app!

you are past the predicted range for Ohio!

I’ve been busy the past few days, so I just caught up on all the info being posted. I wanted to say though that I want to be an Applied Math Major for sciences like physics and then a concentration in economics too. I want to have a minor or double major in Political Science because I want to work in government in some way! Operations research is something in interested in too, but it’s a really limited major and really only doable at U of Illinois or the Naval or Air Force Academies.

@shapeofyou yepp

Did any of you apply to the Yale Bassett Award for Community Engagement? The deadline was yesterday.

@aspiringgirl I did. I decided to apply on a whim. Not really sure what this award does, but we’re the first group to find out.

So I actually got a B (81%) for the semester in AP Chemistry, not a C. <:-P Thanks to the grade changes for our Big Idea #2 test, I went from a 67% to a 78% for the quarter. We have our Big Idea #4 test on Wednesday and then we start Big Idea #5. Kinectics has been pretty easy so far.

I am so busy today! I have a big schedule set up and have Self-Control ready (it blacklists websites, so I will be blacklisting youtube and college confidential because this distracts me lol). Hopefully I get through today without going insane.

Would it be bad if I took Calculus at the local community college even if it wouldn’t be on my high school transcript? My school doesn’t offer dual credit for it, but I’m being forced into Engineering next year and need the space.

I really want to take this schedule next year:

AP Music Theory
AP Lit
AP Calc BC*
Choir
Orchestra
AP Physics C
AP Chemistry

I’d have to get rid of either a music or science elective because of engineering. I really don’t want to do that.

@Hamlon I know some people who are taking Calc at the community college near us. I’m sure you’ll be fine, just make sure you’ll have the time to do it at the community college.

My school opened online class registration for next year and here’s my schedule:
AP Calculus BC
AS Environmental Management
AP Government and Economics honors
A English Language
Peer counseling 2 (did this sophomore year and loved it. My teacher assigns me middle schoolers to speak with and I meet with them every other day to help them with any issues they’re having. We also do public speaking projects in this class)
Dance Techniques
Aice Business Studies
Internship (I’m thinking about doing an internship with my city commissioner. I would leave school during lunch every other day to walk to city hall. My city commissioner would basically grade me.)

Does anyone know how to find a summer internship? My city is pretty small so it seems impossible to find one without already having connections

@Hamlon I’m not sure how many math credits you need to graduate but I’ll have a total of 5 at the end of this year(took algebra 1 and geometry in middle school). I only need 4 math credits to graduate but my school highly recommended me to continue math even though I already had enough credits. It would look better to colleges. talk to your school counselor for sure to see if it’s appropriate

@Hamlon Would you be able to prove you took the class on your college apps? If so, I think you should be fine. Is there a reason your school is making you take Engineering?

@Iridescentgaze My friend had an internship at a hospital last summer. I think she just emailed or called them to see what she could do. I imagine you could get a connection for another internship through your city commissioner, if you do well.

Course registration just opened for me as well, here is what I chose:

AP Lit
AP Euro
AP Stat
AP Enviro Sci
H Latin IV
Creative Writing / Classical Studies (S1 / S2)
Fitness and Nutrition / Free Period (S1 / S2)

I don’t actually know which of my semester classes I’ll have first, but it’d be great if I had a free period to work on college apps during first semester…

Almost done with Jackson essays! Then I have to do an AP Lit rewrite, prepare for spanish, and study for chem. Tomorrow I’m going to be able to sleep so well :).

@Iridescentgaze I’ll have 5 credits by this year too, so that won’t be an issue.
@LeopardFire I’ve been in a STEM program for the past 3 years. We are required to take engineering, math, and science each year. I do have access to my college transcript and have the ability to send it out.

@Iridescentgaze I wish my school had a peer counseling class! I would definitely sign up for it! That sounds like a lot of fun!

Since lots of people are posting that their course registrations are open and what courses they’re taking next year, I might as well hop on the good 'ol bandwagon and join in even though registration doesn’t start for my school until Monday.
AP Literature
AP World History
Introduction to Astronomy
AP Calculus AB
AP French
AP Physics C
Honors Band

I won’t have a lunch again next year since I’ll have 16 mods of classes out of 16 possible mods (this year I don’t have a lunch because all of my classes that are only offered once a day are during lunchtime) but oh well. Having a lunchtime isn’t too important to me anymore.

did any of you apply to tasp?

~next year i think i’m taking
ap calc bc (or multivariable, depending on if i do BC this summer lol)
ap lit
ap gov
ap physics c
ap latin
honors astronomy
ap art history
