I’ve never heard of Hampshire College but I’ll assume it’s in New Hampshire what is the difference between test blind and test optional? not that it’s relevant to me, but I’m curious!
hm, I mean the SAT/ACT is hard, but it’s possible to anyone, regardless of their financial situation, to score high. There are lots of free resources out there, such as Khan Academy and the Collegeboard has a ton of real practice tests online. The only things I paid for for the ACT were 2 used prep books from Goodwill lol, which I resold, so in the end besides the actual test cost, I paid like $3? But some people I know have taken the ACT like 4 times…which is crazy expensive! So I would say anyone who has the time and motivation can do well…but money can definitely put someone who normally wouldn’t score high into a much higher test bracket…which is kinda unfair.
Which is why I think test scores aren’t super relevant and shouldn’t be for most schools besides maybe like the top 20s where everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has the numbers!
Hey, everyone, I met with my guidance counselor today to discuss my schedule for next year and I have a question about how many AP classes I should take senior year. I know you all aren’t experts, but I just want to know what the average is that the top students at your school take I took 1 as a freshman(Human Geo), 1 as a sophomore(World History), and 3 as a junior(CHEM, APUSH, LANG), and these were the maximum amount that my school offered. I plan to take 3 next year and 2 dual enrollment courses at my state college.
Do colleges count dual enrollment as equivalent to AP courses in rigor?
Means I have to take this class for a requirement
This is my tentative schedule:
*AP Calculus AB full year
*AP US Government full year
*AP Spanish full year
Golf 1/2 year *Economics 1/2 year
Engineering Internship full year
*English 1101/ English 1102
2 Electives each 1/2 year(at college but I haven't chosen it yet?
I'm not sure if I need the 8th class. But, I am interested taking AP Physics
Also, I am currently #2 in my class, and I want to keep my ranking because the Val and Sal in my school district get full rides to any state school, so this is really important. My competition will definitely be taking 3 AP courses and 2 college courses. Do you all think 4 APs and 2 college courses would be too much? Also, since I intend to apply as a science or engineering major, should I make it a priority to take AP Physics over another class?
Thanks in advance taking the time to read and respond!!!
I’m taking IB Physics HL next year! And I’m waiting to see if I can take any more IB courses
Apparently there are only a couple differences between Regular Physics and IB Physics at my school in junior year. I’ll only have to read 3 chapters in the IB Physics textbook and finish Regular Physics and then I’ll be good to go for IB Physics HL next year.
I just got an email saying I’m a Yale Bassett award semi-finalist! 800 kids applied and they selected 40 semi-finalists and 20 finalists. I’m really honored to have made it this far! After a long day of testing, this was awesome news to receive!
I am doing pretty good in trig but like chem makes me contemplate life because i want to go into the medical field and there is chem in that and it’s just blahhhhhhhh
@julia35002 omg I’m in the same boat…I want to go to med school and Chem was fine for the first part of the year but we took our first practice MC test for the AP and I FELL ASLEEP and got so lazy and did horribly. I’ve realized I have tonssss of work to do in order to manage even a 4 lol
I like the qualitative stuff but I am so lazy and hate doing calculations for titrations and all of the acid-base equilibrium problems…
@LushLillies I’m just taking basic high school chemistry omg I could never imagine AP. Luckily NY they make you a giant reference table packet to use for the regents. So like titration formula is on there and a whole bunch of other stuff.
I got my report card today. If I can keep my current grades up until the end of the second semester, I might be able to raise my GPA near a 3.8. I may even be able to get up there completely by the end of first semester senior year, which would be great for colleges.
Are you guys planning to apply EA or ED? I can’t do ED for financial reasons, but I’m wondering if there are any particular positives or negatives to applying EA.
@LeopardFire I can’t do ED either, but I plan on applying EA to one school. Only one school on my list offers EA, but two others have rolling admissions. I just want to have my decisions back early so I know I have a good school I can go to even if I get rejected in March or can’t afford my other schools. Also, applying EA gives me a reason to finish my apps earlier lol.
@LeopardFire I’m doing EA for some schools, but I’m not doing ED. ED kinda scares me and I don’t think I could make that much of a commitment to one particular school.
