Should I retake a 770 Math II?
@xxluvforeverxx I think you should be fine.
Congrats to everyone on your SAT II scores! I (finally) have off of work today so I’m trying to start some of my college essays. My laptop charger is broken so I’m handwriting them. I think writing the essays out helps my ideas flow better than when I type it. I might do this for all of my essays.
I got a 790 on the Math II Subject Test! I’m happy with that score overall, though it would’ve been nice to get a perfect score. I guess you can’t have everything.
1430 on the SAT! 730 Math and 700 Reading.
This is the first time my math score has been higher than my reading! My score puts me at the 50-75%+ at all the schools I’m applying to except Harvard and Northeastern. I don’t think my parents want me to retest even though they want me to add more Ivies to my list?? My mom keeps underestimating college admissions but that’s another rant. Anyways, I rather take the SAT again because Khan Academy makes it so much easier to study. However, I have an ACT fee waiver so I’m probably going to suffer through that again. I’m waiting until my engineering programs are over to decide if I want to register for the October subject tests. Right now I’m leaning toward Environmental Studies because it covers math, science, and politics (and I wouldn’t need subject tests to apply lol)
@kassh4 On SAT II Literature, I got a 440 by randomly guessing all the answers. I guess fill in random bubbles for SAT II Spanish and UPenn will think you’re proficient enough in Spanish with that nice score of 450+ :))
BTW that score also means I’m not applying to Cornell… not sure what they’d think with high SAT scores then a 440 seeing as how they require all SAT I and II scores lol
@acomfysofa Lol I have to get into UPenn first, and that’s the real challenge.
Take the subject test after you get into UPenn lol
@snowfairy137 I can’t seem to find out if they need with listening or not. If they need it with listening id have to take it in November since that is the only time they offer it. If they don’t I’ll probably take the May SAT date while I am ending off AP Spanish.
ah ok. Good luck! Email them maybe?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/common-application/2004129-is-it-ok-to-be-unconventional-in-the-common-app-honors-section.html#latest Guys I made a thread about the thing I was talking about last night. I feel like the reply was kind of rude but I could be a little too defensive about my accomplishments. Can you look it over and see if I’m being too defensive or not? I trust you guys lol.
@snowfairy137 I just read it and I could definitely tell that they didn’t know what those awards are, so they thought you were just coming up with funny names or something. It was really weird to see on here, a place where everyone is so serious about their apps.
That being said, the first reply (not the snarky one, but the one above that) seemed to make a lot of sense and seemed to be very helpful. That sounds like a good solution to your question? Those awards seem more related to your extracurricular of FIRST Robotics then your academics, which is the section in which the Awards section is located in. Except maybe the Dean’s List Semifinalist? That sounds like it’s based on your participation in FIRST Robotics as well as being academically achieving. I don’t know for sure, though, I hadn’t heard about it before you posted about it here.
@marg532 yeah thanks for the advice, I’ll think about what makes the most sense to me. When I went back to see the thread I missed the first post and just saw the snarky one. Right after I saw that my mom called and yelled at me. I couldn’t sleep earlier today and literally electrocuted myself at work so you could say my day hasn’t been great and that didn’t help lol. Sorry I’m complaining I just need somewhere to get it out.
@snowfairy137 I think that person was actually really rude…it’s one thing to try to be “honest” (necessary for those chance me threads out there lol) but saying your Awards were made-up was really rude.
Was the certification something you did on your own or was it a school? At my school everyone gets CAD certified and has to take and engineering project-based exam (even if you’re not interested in engineering anymore) so getting certified in 3D isn’t even anywhere on my app. But I think if no one at your school is certified then it’s good to put on
I think you should put your FIRST awards in additional info if you have tons of awards that won’t fit in the slots though. I’ve been involved in music for a long time and I’ve entered tons of competitions in HS, so I put my music awards in additional info ! But otherwise I’m pretty sure they care about the Honors sections and would appreciate your FIRST awards over AP scholar, honor roll (which can be put into additional info haha although they can already see this from other sections like you said!)
@LushLillies At my school there’s a class that like 20 people/2000 took my year. About 15 took the exam and about 7 or 8 passed. So its nowhere near like something everyone did.
I don’t have a bunch of other awards because my main ec, robotics, is really team based and I didn’t see the point in joining stuff like national honors society when I could volunteer through robotics. All 5 of those things are things I’m proud of and I think they show off who I am. If I had a bunch of stuff to put in the additional info section I would I guess but as you can probably tell I struggled a little bit to figure out even 5 meaningful things for me lmao.
My SAT results were kind of disappointing, unfortunately. My R/W went up 20 points, but M stayed exactly the same. I’m 30 points away from my goal, do you guys think it’s worth taking the August test? I’m currently sitting at a 740 R/W 630 M, so I have plenty of room for improvement for the latter.
I have had serious trouble staying motivated this summer. I have so much to do, and it just makes me want to procrastinate more. I hate the stress I’m under during the school year, but at least I am actually semi-productive then. Anyone else feeling similar?
@LeopardFire I feel the same way. The amount of summer work for AP Lit alone is mind boggling. I can hardly bare the thought of doing that let alone the work I have for calc bc, and bio. Also, with college apps looming, I’ve have a very inconvenient case of writer’s block which has rendered those essays quite underdeveloped. My procrastination has taken form as rereading my favorite teen fantasy series and basically stocking CC for more info on the national merit scholarship process and OU/UCF/UCI/etc.
Has anyone else had anxiety attacks thinking about starting college next year? I’m really excited about starting “a new chapter” and getting away from home problems but I’m also really freaked out. It took me until junior year to find my people in high school and just the thought of having to do it again scares me. I’m really introverted and it’s really hard for me to find people that I click with because I’m not exactly mainstream. I’m probably just overthinking it but this has me really stressed out.
@LeopardFire I started to realize I was feeling this way recently, so I joined the studyblr community on tumblr and made a studyblr sideblog to keep myself accountable for actually doing my summer schoolwork, and college application stuff.
I have some much work to do but I literally can’t make myself do any of my summer work but I know that school will start before I know it (August 16th).
@Marg532 What is a studyblr side blog? How does it keep you accountable?
Hey guys! I’m having so much fun at CMU! Just wanted to let you guys know I got a 3 on AP Lang and that’s pretty much all the scores I care about. I’m in Pre-Calc because I didn’t do so well on the math placement test, so I’m studying Calculus on the weekends to help me prepare for BC Calc. I also decided to switch from Honors Programming in Python to Regular Programming in Python today because Honors was going way too fast. SAT Prep is going okay and I’m doing pretty well in my other classes. We’ve had a lot of exposure to CMU admissions and only a few of us might be selected to go to CMU. My first week was quite rough adjusting to everything and trying to be less of an introvert, but I’ve actually made some great connections with not one, but two different admissions people that I talk to regularly. It really does feel like I’m getting the full college experience!
