High School Class of 2018

@doctornc I post my acceptances onto my Snapchat story, but I don’t put it on any other social media (and I had to stop my mom from posting anything, too). I tell my family, and I also tell my guidance counselor, because the school puts up a list of each school the seniors get accepted to, next to their names. I guess everyone has been talking about me, because I’ve been accepted to so many schools already (“so many” for my school is more than 3, and they’re all talking about me because I’ve been accepted to 3 (now 4) out of the 5 that I’ve applied to.). People who rarely talk to me normally are asking about where I’ve been accepted, and where I’m going to go. It’s getting pretty exhausting tbh.

@Marg532 If they did that kind of thing at my school, everyone would be so depressed and cutthroat to figure out who got into an Ivy to ask them for tips! :))

@Marg532 agreed with @ak2018 !! do you all have family connection on your blackboard accounts? In my county, we have it and it shows the acceptance history for colleges from students at my school. There is a scattergram of results that I unhealthily compare myself to almost every day as well lol

I have three tests within two days of when we come back from break and I’ve come to terms with my impending demise. One of them is an AP Chem test, half of which covers an eighteen-page packet that students were given over the break on stuff we haven’t discussed since Honors, if at all. I’m thinking a nice plum suit to complement a cherry mahogany casket.

@r2v2018 My AP Physics teacher always has homework due on Wednesdays at midnight…the same time as (most) college deadlines. It was hell for my early schools and it’ll be hell for my RD schools as well.

I’ve applied to 4 schools early action and will be applying to 6 schools regular decision (7 if WSU wins tonight since, if they do, my mom is making me apply to University of Washington).

The schools are:
EA:
UMaine (accepted for physics with a $6k/year merit scholarship and (hopefully) a $3k/year visual/performing arts scholarship)
CU Boulder
Case Western Reserve University
Fordham (idk why I applied…oh wait, it was free)

RD:
MIT (dream school lol)
Caltech
Princeton
Cornell
Dartmouth
McGill
University of Washington (if WSU somehow wins)

Also got my SAT scores back last week. 1370 again. Did 10 points worse in R/W and 10 points better in M. 1380 superscore. Very upset since that’s not where I wanted to end up, but it’s good motivation to study hard for my physics and math 2 subject tests.
Still waiting on my October ACT score. I’m hoping for next Monday or Wednesday.

@frazzledazzle sometimes ACT scores are up before they send out the “your scores are available” email, so I would check your account just in case. That’s what happened to me and they emailed me about 3 days after I was already able to view them.

@frazzledazzle there is no way WSU wins tonight. I guess that’s one less school for you!

@doctornc I have been checking the portal a lot. They only release schools on certain days which stinks.

I binge-watched One-Punch Man instead of starting my UChicago supplements. I’m low-key mad but also not surprised at myself. :))

@ski_racer Yeah my mom and I knew that was coming. I have been running NPCs and we wouldn’t have been able to afford U Dub anyway. We lost the game but I won by not having to apply there (I didn’t really want to anyway).

Accepted: ASU with full tuition scholarship! s/o to their generosity for National Hispanic Scholars
Applied: Harvard REA, Northeastern, Fordham
Still need: UCs (time to write 4 essays for two schools I probably won’t end up at), Johns Hopkins, George Washington, Santa Clara

I decided not to apply to American because they have too many essays lol. And their biggest merit scholarships are tied to their Honors College which I’m not that interested in. I may apply to LMU instead but it depends if I stay on track with my other applications.

On a non-academic note, I saw Coco this weekend with my family and cried my eyes out. It’s a really cute movie and the animation is stunning.

Ok real talk…High School Musical 3 lied to all of us! :)) Tbh I wish senior year was that like! It’s like they legit skipped all the worry of applying to college and focused more on the nostalgic part of senior year that doesn’t hit you until April (going to prom, breaking-up with your girl/boyfriend because you’re going to different colleges out of state, etc.). Troy is me in the next few months trying to figure out which college to go to. Lol, sorry my rant. HSM3 just puts me in my feels!

@jaysaini8 Hey! I also applied to VT. Good luck!

Ah I should’ve written my VT essays instead of starting to watch ‘you who came from the stars’ over break, but it also hit me that this will probably the last year I’ll have time to watch it… also good luck you guys! @ak2018 @jaysaini8

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances!! I got into my 80% admit safety and while my parents are apathetic, I’m absolutely thrilled to get my first acceptance!

Anyone have tips for group interviews? I’m going to a scholarship day at Concordia College- Moorhead and their format for scholarship decisions is a group discussion, which I kinda suck at.

VT is great. Scholarship deadline is Dec. 7th for VT, so I hope you guys can get the general application for it out of the way soon! @ak2018 @agentaquastar @jaysaini8

I wrote a draft of my Chicago essay and realized it was Stanford-level quirkiness. I had already written the “What Matters to You” essay for Stanford, but was banging my head against the wall for the roommate essay. I realized that a condensed version of my Chicago essay would work for the meaningful thing Stanford prompt, and that I could edit my initial Stanford essay into the roommate essay. I wrote my Chicago supplement (which is about 650 words), and then a 250-word version of it for Stanford. While I haven’t ~technically~ moved forward on my Stanford application (because I still don’t have a roommate essay done), I know what I’m writing, which is half the battle. I still have a bunch of writing to do before January 1st, but a lot of it is Why School X?

So. Many. Supplements.

@doctornc I already filled out the general application on Thursday and am in the process of writing my supplements for the scholarships I was recommended for. How many were you recommended for? I got 18, but I also looked through all of the scholarships and found some that I qualified for.

Also, does anyone have tips on writing a speech? I am currently writing my speech to submit for the Student Leadership Conference by Dec. 15. I’m almost treating it like a valedictorian speech, IF I WAS ONE! :))

I’ve completed all of my UCLA/Berkeley essays but tbh none of them actually sound good
