@aspiringgirl and @neonerudite Congratulations on your acceptances!
Congratulations @aspiringgirl and @neonerudite !
@neonerudite Your whole story is truly a reminder to never sell yourself too short. I actually know of another friend og mine who also matched to Stanford. Her reaction video was so pure. I couldn’t help but feel nothing but happiness for her! Hope you both meet! Congrats, Birthday Triplet! You deserve it all! :))
@cliffnotes @smmonsa @apraxiamom @ak2018 thank y’all so much!!
and haha, all three of us birthday triplets are going to do such great things!
I visited Temple yesterday! After being on so many college visits, it’s a lot easier to see past the standard stuff and find exactly what you want in a school. Like, one thing I like is when a school has its own tech center instead of having computers scattered throughout the library. And the new library is going to create more green space on campus and more study space since the books will be in the basement (which you can retrieve by just typing it in their system, which brings the book straight up to you).
Also really liked their college of comm and could see myself there. So unless I get a better offer somewhere else, I might be going to temple.
I actually thought of a fun little question. Would you guys want to create a scholarship one day? If so, what would be the criteria of a good applicant? For mine, a person would have to have an income below $100K, must have a 3.5+ or higher, and has to write a compelling essay on the subject they most like to study.
@ak2018 I wouldn’t place income limits. I understand that lower income kids often have to work harder for the same opportunities, but there’s a whole chunk of families (including mine) that make too much money to qualify for financial aid but not enough to pay for college outright. Like, having an income of $150k doesn’t mean you have $18k/year lying around for your instate public.
@ski_racer That is quite a point.
@ak2018 I wouldn’t set any limits - GPA or income or standardised tests. Those are just numbers. Essays would definitely be required to demonstrate interest, but the most important part would be interviews.
Retook my last SAT yesterday, hoping to get a 1500+ superscore.
My Stanford decision and SAT score results come out on the 15th! I’m already prepared to be disappointed tbh
Lol, I got my mailed Woodward scholarship offer from UNM today. I got the emailed offer the day before Thanksgiving, so I’m not sure why it took 6 business days for my offer to travel across town
@acomfysofa Me too lol! Subject Tests and Stanford REA decisions. Fingers crossed!
Guys how do you get motivation to study? I have a final in one of my college classes IN MY MAJOR that’s 40% of my grade and I can’t friggin’ study. Normally I study extremely well…
@CharlotteLetter I use this super awesome app called Forest. You set a timer, which plants a little virtual tree, but if you get on your phone before time is up, your tree dies. It doesn’t sound like much, but for some reason it works.
@ski_racer Thanks for the idea, but sadly I don’t have a smartphone… just my computer.
@CharlotteLetter Good news! It looks like they have a Chrome extension (but if you have a Mac then I guess you’re out of luck
)
@ski_racer Wow. That app sounds awesome.
It would be great if there was an app that automatically locked the phone when you set a timer. And you can’t unlock it unless the time is up, except to make emergency calls.
Anyone do ED to Penn?
@ski_racer forest is my favorite app and probably the one I use the most. thanks for mentioning the chrome extension though! I didn’t realize there was one
Had my last class for my women’s studies course! I’m only about a page away from being finished with my final paper for that class also.
I was talking to people about college admissions and a lot of them were asking why I didn’t apply to Ivies because of my great stats. I told them that not only do they not have my major, they also aren’t a great fit for me. Their response? “So? you have good stats.”
One of my friends said that he has a lot of respect for me for not applying to Ivies because I know my limits and I’m not shooting for prestige. He has good stats but only applied to two small local schools, and he’s happy because he loves those schools. Sometimes people really forget that it’s not all about getting into an Ivy.
