High School Class of 2019

The APES FRQs have been released! @IrrationalPepsi

Oh lord I’m too scared to look

oh no, i’m scared and i didn’t even take APES

Currently stressing over the SAT II Chem and Calc BC, not too concerned over Math 2 :stuck_out_tongue:

So many freshmen taking APs, and here I am, a sophomore, with only one AP up my sleeve. Our school does not allow freshmen to take APs. Anyone else have this problem?

@21223lin I’m a sophomore with one AP, so you’ve got a leg up on me! :slight_smile:
My school doesn’t even offer AP classes! I had to take it online.

Neither AP English Language nor AP Statistics made it as classes next year! I’m stuck taking honors English III and honors Discrete Math.

Ach! Any chance you can do dual enrollment? @IrrationalPepsi
You could try CTY Online to get more advanced math if DE doesn’t work out; that’s what I did! Worst case scenario, I’ve heard of people doing classes from MIT’s Open Courseware for credit.

@OMPursuit @IrrationalPepsi it shouldn’t be too hard doing DE at a CC. You could always do those classes in the summer.

@Bobbybob444555 Yeah, I do dual-enrollment practically full-time, haha.
I’m not sure how many math classes a CC would offer past calc 2 tho.

The CC I plan to go to has math way past calc 2. @OMPursuit It even has discrete math and linear algebra.

Oh, man, that’s really cool! I wish mine had linear algebra; then I could take it for free. :stuck_out_tongue:
The CC over here specializes in making nurses and giving premeds at the 4-year uni more course options. As a result, the prereqs for nursing and medical programs are very strong (but not much else).
@Bobbybob444555

In that case, maybe it’s a good thing we don’t have the class! It’d surely struggle to attract students, and consequently suffer from lack of attention/funding. It’d probably mainly draw in disgruntled computer science students.

@OMPursuit still though, being able to take calc 2 in hs is pretty good

Long time no see my peeps! who remembers me :slight_smile:

anyway took ap gov exam yesterday and i was so confused on two court cases on one FRQ. My school AP gov book was from 2012 and the cases there were from 2015 so yeah im screwed. Some people got it right because you didn’t have to explain what the cases were, rather what they did. And like it was either one answer or another but I said the wrong thing and yeah. Also whos ding IB???

Gio’s baaack

Almost done with the semester… I have a ten-week research internship this summer!

A’s in my two community college classes (accounting and macro)… still working on research with my math professor. Done with my stats class, and almost done with French.

I’m debating between general chemistry, calc-based physics, and environmental science for fall - as a math person I should take physics, but I don’t really care for science in the first place. Environmental Science (online… lol) would be much easier than the other two, and general chemistry would have online lecture and f2f lab, so… yeah. I’ve already done biology and anatomy for high school. Any thoughts? :stuck_out_tongue:

Another option is online physical geography. I’m not to excited for that one, though.

I’ll also be taking 2 graduate courses and French, researching with a professor, running my CAP squadron, playing chess, singing in girl choir, and losing weight, so yeah. Also possibly a college app if I decide to graduate next May… that would be due December 1st.

Since you mentioned graduating early, is it possible that you already have enough science credits to graduate? If so, I wouldn’t do chem, physics, env. sci. or geography. I would focus on somethibg math or business-related, if you’re interested in those fields. By the way, what are you researching this summer?

@RussianbioHacker I’m probably not graduating early, unfortunately (just realized something regarding scholarship). My state is cutting the tuition portion of merit scholarships :frowning: I’ll already be taking 2 math and stats courses (the grad courses), three would be a bit much. I definitely need the science credits (since I care more about math, I’ve done the minimum for science each year). I do need at least one more lab science for high school (not biology), and need one course past that for college gen ed.

This summer I’m researching improved forms of Monte Carlo / stochastic processes with my professor + his grad student, and some theoretical math stuff (not sure yet) for my internship. I’ll probably continue the research with my professor in fall :smiley:

@CharlotteLetter Sounds like very interesting research. Hope you get placed in good courses!
