Hey CC, I know that this isn’t 100% college admissions related, but it is most relevant in this forum.
I wanted to ask if it is worth self-studying an AP (microecon) rather than taking it senior year. I am fairly confident I will get a high score on it as I am already in Macro, but if I were to take it, I would likely take two Band classes senior year. Is that looked down upon by colleges (Ivy League in particular)? While I might not major in music, I will definitely be playing in the college band where ever I get in. Any thoughts?
TL;DR: What’s smarter: self-studied AP w/ two band classes or saving the AP for a spot in my senior year schedule?
There are many senior members on CC who will tell you not to bother self studying, unless you have genuine interest in the subject. They say that adcoms are not impressed when kids self study APs. I don’t exactly disagree, but I do think there is nothing wrong with taking the exam, especially if yiu can do well on it. You are talking about one subject, and I assume you have a genuine interest in it, because you seem to like Macro. If Band is your thing, you definitely should pursue it.
For you, you like band and you may want to get credit for the AP Micro for colleges. To me this seems a reasonable AP to self study and most colleges give credit for it.
