High School Course Credit Requirement

Hello,
I have US History 1, US History 2, and AP Human Geography for social studies. I saw the requirement is 4 for Social Studies. Can I still apply for Babson?
Thanks!

Does your high school also require civics / government and economics? These also count as social studies.

Can you apply - yes

Thank you for your reply. Our school doesn’t require any of those, but I will check if I can take any of them. I just remembered that I took the course below in summer. Anyone know it counts as social studies?
Intro to Research & Financial Literacy 892114
(Grade 9; elective; five credits)

Probably not social studies. May be considered an academic elective that is not one of the usual core subjects. There was a whole thread on personal finance courses in high school recently.

Take World History your senior year.

And also check to make sure you have met the requirements for high school graduation in your district and state. Many require four years of social studies, including a civics/government class.

Thank you for your helpful info!

The school/state requires only 15 (=5x3 course) credits to graduate. That’s why it can be problem. I already took AP Human Geography at 9th grade instead of World History. I found out that I could take AP Microeconomics in senior, so it should cover the Babson requirement, I hope. Maybe I should check with the college?
Thank you for your advice!!!

Plus world history? Right?

No government or civics?

AP Human Geography was replaced by World history in 9th grade because I got higher placement test score at high school admission. Other people who got lower score took World history instead.

So…could you please list the social studies courses you HAVE taken.

Sounds like you haven’t taken AP Psych, Government or Civics.

btw - Babson doesn’t require four years of social science - so yes you can apply. And perhaps your counselor can note why you skipped a class.

They say students have challenged themselves with four years but it’s certainly not required and I’m guessing not everyone has four years. There are many schools that note a certain amount of years that have students that haven’t come close.

Foreign Language is often talked about and @Thorsmom66 just mentioned in another thread someone at Dartmouth and had no AP calc (had the chance but didn’t take) and less APs than other kids.

So nothing is that black and white. Colleges often make generalist statements of desired traits but your app at Babson will be looked at in the totality of what it is.

Best of luck with your app to Babson next year.

Is AP World history offered? Ap Micro Economics is a semester course so you’d need another one. Some colleges want to see you also know about history in the rest of the world - AP world history or ap European history.
Is civics/government part of what you studied in US History2?

instead of World History, I took AP Human Geography because I passded the placement test.

No government or civics course offered
Thank you!

What social studies courses are available for you to take next year?

I thought AP Microeconomics is a year course in my high school, but I will check with my counselor. Thank you!
We have only AP US history.
I don’t know if we learn civics/ government in US HIstory, but I will check.
THANK YOU!!
