high school graduate looking for some internship

hello
i have graduated from high school, but am not attending college this fall or spring. But i do plan on attending University of Illinois starting from 2007 summer, when i will become an instate resident. However, in the meantime, i would like to do some type of internship, or other work, that would look good in my resume and application when i apply to medical school, and would not look like i wasted my whole year for nothing.

So can you guys give me some advice.

I think i m going to major in Economics or finance, so how should i utilize my so many months…should i start work?.. should i shadow? i want to work in Big companies, so that i could get my hands on stuff…
are there fall internships offered to high school graduates with a diploma, in such places like NIH?

The reason why i am posting this thread here is that since you all are very experienced, working, you might give me some ideas, some advice, that could help me. Some job offerings, you have heard of…some scenarios…plz share with me…
Thankyou

It sounds as if you want an internship in finance or economics. Wouldn’t it be better to do something in the medical field? If you are 18, you can get your EMS or nurse’s assistant certification. A friend of mine has a son who just graduated medical school. He became a CNA (certified nurse assistant) while in college because he wanted to experience hospital work. He went to the community college near the 4year univ his sophomore year to work on CNA certificate. He worked as a nurses’ assistant for his last two years of undergrad. It turns out that experience was impressive to the admissions board at the med school.

You can major in anything and aim for med school, but it is the practical experiences that may be better able to help you in reaching that goal.

Just a thought. Good luck.

hmm…ill think about it…thanks
