*Current (junior year) courseload: AP World, AP Lang, AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP CSP, Orch (I’m in the top orchestra my school has to offer), Latin 3
*4 on Music Theory, 5 on APUSH
National Ethics Bowl Champion
Regional Ethics Bowl Champion
NHD CA Runner Up
Scholastic Silver Key
Published research paper on communication in the workplace, and how that affects women
*Co-pres. of Girl Up Chapter at my high school – we mostly do regular volunteer opportunities and such, but we did get on the news for a successful collaboration with a local business
*Co-founder, CMO of an organization that helps new Chinese immigrants find a community in our city
*Board of our high school’s Ethics Bowl club
*Technology officer on board of another organization helping high schoolers learn life skills not taught in schools (ie. insurance)
*Teen advisory board of our city’s vice mayor
*Summer research internship at UCI (will publish another research paper as first author once internship is done)
*Outside orchestra (I had a shot at concertmaster but then I missed a rehearsal… and got moved all the way to the back)
*Counselor LOR: Don’t really talk to her, she seemed to dislike me fresh and sophomore year because I was taking a lot of APs for a sophomore (two, most kids were taking one). Our public school is highly competitive and the suicide/ depression rate is alarming the counselors to the point they are trying to dissuade us from taking as many APs.
*Latin teacher: He literally writes LORs for all of the kids planning on taking AP Latin or Latin 4, as in he will come to you and ask for your resume and all that to write the LOR. He’s been teaching at our school for almost 40 years now and insists on writing us all LORs. Most likely, it’ll be pretty strong because we all have a strong relationship with him.
*Freshman year history teacher: I had her freshman year, but known her all four years. She is the club advisor for Ethics Bowl and NHD, so I know her fairly well. Considering we won nationals, she has a very high opinion of all of us, and I’m taking her new semester course (non weighted) senior year. Hopefully I can get a good LOR from her, but that is questionable.
Cost Constraints / Budget
*UCs would be preferable, but considering that I am Asian and coming from a stable middle-class household and all that, I don’t think I have much of a shot
*Too poor for college, too rich for financial aid kind of tagline
*If I get into a really, really good private school, we’ll probably figure out a way, but otherwise, my family and I don’t see the worth of paying for a mid-tier private school when I could be attending a UC.
*Good private school with enough financial aid would be amazing, otherwise I’m headed to a UC.
*ED possibilities: Brown (don’t know feasibility), JHU, Wellesley
*EA: don’t know yet, will pick some out of others
*Others: UCs, UMich, NYU, BU, Barnard, Notre Dame, Scripps, USC, Pitzer, BC
*Safeties: Pepperdine, UIUC, U Washington
